Let's rework Yasuo's Wind Wall

#Disclaimer:

  1. Like I got no problem fighting Yasuo and I know how to deal with one. ######Probably because I only play bruisers and they clap Yasuo
  2. [EDIT] Yes yes Yasuo is suppose to be a tough time for ranged champions but a nearly 4 second immunity where its counterplay_(asides from waiting for it to end)_ would often get you killed is overkill. Rework and slightly nerf

Anyway it's just unfair that Yasuo's windwall is allowed to completely take a ranged champion out of a fight completely for 3.75 seconds. Just for reference, this is roughly how many champions Yasuo can completely cut out of a fight and/or greatly hinder their efficiency:

https://imgur.com/hIOeCv3

That's 52 champions of the current roster. Not to mention how many more champions have abilities that when blocked can really mess them up mid fight for no good reason.

#My thoughts on https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/6/61/Wind_Wall.png/revision/latest?cb=20131122024151 :

  • Make it last shorter

  • Change Wind Wall so it only blocks a finite number of abilities before fading away, starting at 1 and increasing as you rank it up.

  • Change Wind Wall so the projectile needs to reach a damage threshold where if it deals more damage than the threshold it can pass through, damage threshold would have a bad ratio and a base number scaling with level. Again, if the windwall has a certain number of projectiles pass through the wind wall will fade away.

  • Why does Wind wall blocks abilities like PoppyR? It's literally like a seismic shockwave coming towards you. We all know Earth > Air. It makes no sense on some of the abilities Wind Wall can block.

  • Windwall should cost flow and force Yasuo trade his shield for a windwall (Idea from Altiverse)

Tell me your thoughts on https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/6/61/Wind_Wall.png/revision/latest?cb=20131122024151 and of course don't be a bias because that's lame. #Just chill.

his windwall also stops a taliyah ult with her still riding it, the tinest corner of it stops a whole nami ult

Shmeeve7/28/2018, 3:16:12 PM23 votes

actually there is a champ that can not be affected by yasuo's wind wall in the place of their role... literally, vel'koz's giant freaking laser can melt through the wind wall, I learned from experience and its awesome

Daddy Ants7/28/2018, 4:25:07 PM13 votes

I have 2 ideas -

Idea 1:

Yasuo's Wind Wall has a health bar.

2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 dependent on spell rank.

  • Auto attacks and non ultimate abilities remove 1 HP each.

  • Ultimate abilities remove 2 HP each. Ashe R, Nami R come to mind.

  • The wall expires when the health bar is depleted OR by it's natural duration.

I'm going to use Yaskamasandwich's idea here.

Wind Wall (W): Removed and replaced with Wind Shield.

**Wind Shield (W): ** COOLDOWN: 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 (Similar to other self spell shields like Nocturne)

ACTIVE: Yasuo gains a spell shield for 1.5 seconds which blocks the next harmful ability received from an Enemy Champion.

If Yasuo successfully blocks an ability (not auto attacks) he gains 10 Flow.

I feel like a self spell shield is a lot fairer to play around than a bs wall that blocks 95% of most ranged champion's kit.

Same rules as any other Spell Shield.

Giving him 10 flow if he blocks an ability with Wind Shield gives him the incentive to use it wisely and to time it instead of blindly pressing W in lane so he can cs harass free for 4 seconds.

Yasuo can completely cut out of a fight:

I don't think Yasuo's windwall is that strong. If you do throw your whole kit into it then yes, but most of these champions only have one or two skills blocked by it. For instance Xerath's E will be the only thing blocked, assuming it's during a teamfight why would he throw his stun so far away? If Yasuo did get close, then that's bad positioning.

With ADCs, they can't attack him through the wall but Yasuo shouldn't be able to either unless he's on top of them, in which case he's already won the fight like any other skirmisher would Ekko MasterYi, the counterplay here is to not get close to him as someone like Xerath or Twitch.

I think windwall should stay with him, it's his other abilities that make him a pain to lane against, mainly his E.

Other people who couldn't care less about Yasuo's wall, I can' really speak for others I haven't played as vs Yasuo a lot.

Aurelion Sol, Q is back up in a couple seconds anyway and ult/stars goes through it. Azir, it only blocks Q and ult, if you actually play this it's not that big of a deal. Cassiopeia, sure he can block your DPS for a couple seconds but that's it. It's not like a key ability is being negated for eternity. Fiddlesticks, when fighting Yasuo it's your Q that you need the most, and while he's feared he can't E? I don't know where you're going with this. Karthus, nothing in karthus's kit can be walled. Again I don't know where you're going with this. Karma, A lot of Karma's power is in her shields, while she is just a Q bot it's used for poke. If Yasuo's in a teamfight and ww's a Karma Q, he's probably lost. Sivir, I haven't really played her but with her ulti she should be able to kite yasuo. Her Q CD at rank 1 is only 7 seconds, so just don't die in 7 seconds? Lissandra, where are you going with this again? Only her Q and E are blocked, if her Q is blocked she couldn't care less because she wouldn't be engaging. If her E is blocked, she'll just try again later. Malzahar, only his R can be blocked by ww but that's almost never going to happen. If it does happen though, there goes malz's kit. Orianna, her Q has a low CD and it's the only thing that can be blocked. She can always walk out of range if Yasuo chases her and get her ball back instantly. All other abilities are AOE and go through the wall.

there's a bunch others but you just listed what makes windwall strong in a perfect scenario, none of it's weaknesses. It seems stronger than it actually is, it can block a useless Morg Q from 200 feet away when nobody's going to engage onto him, and then it can block Ashe's ulti when her team's trying to follow up. It can be strong, but most of the time it's really not. Especially against ADCs since they do constant damage, unlike Veigar when his whole combo is negated if he plays bad enough. Since you don't play ranged champions I don't blame you, his windwall does look strong but if you look closer there's a lot of counterplay to it.

+Yasuo's windwall is only effective for as long as he's behind it

Anthur7/28/2018, 3:31:41 PM8 votes

lets not forget how yasuo can simply delete Draven Spinning Axe. if you ask me, thats completly unfair. cutting draven from a fight for more than 8 seconds (adding the spinning axe cooldown). i definetely vote YES!

Curious Kat7/28/2018, 7:46:10 PM8 votes

Here's an unpopular opinion c:

Hes already been fucked enough by terrible item changes, that delay his power spike massively. Changing his defense against champs that press one button to delete you would be neutering him further more.

If you touch part one part of his kit, you realize they need to make up for it in other areas right? He would have to get an absurd amount of early damage to make up for the loss of defense. Then people would just bitch that he can dash through minions, HES TOOOOO MOBILLLLLE REEEEEEEEEEE.

Whats the moral of this story? People are always going to whine about Yasuo, and will always say one part of his kit needs a nerf or a rework in some shape or form when there is plenty of other problem champions that are 50x worse to deal with.

Don Lupus7/29/2018, 11:00:08 AM7 votes

I think it should definitly be reworked aka nerfed.

One possibility would be to give it a lifebar. After taking X projectiles, the windwall fades.

Another one would be to make it into an Anivia-styled wall - if Yasuo casts it, it blocks both enemy AND ally projectiles/AAs, including his own attacks/hurricane/whatever.

Two other things that should DEFINITLY change either are

a) it should only block rojectiles that actually fly through it. No things going on on the ground or falling from the sky. b) It should not work in a cleanse-ish way, where he can block projectiles the second they would have actually hit him.

Stars Shaper7/28/2018, 6:03:42 PM7 votes

Half of those champions can easily bypass it.

The fact that you included Azir and Karthus is a clear show about how much you don't know about the skill, litterally nothing of them gets blocked (except Karthus AA I guess).

archlime7/29/2018, 10:21:23 AM6 votes

How about just making it travel twice the distance it does and making it travel much faster but making it disappear at the end? That way you could 'blow' away any projectiles coming your way but it doesn't stand there annoying mages and adcs.

MasterDClone7/28/2018, 6:00:28 PM6 votes

How the fuck does it counter karthus, none of his abilities gets blocked by said windwall lol, you can always go around it too, it only cuts champs out of fight if the people playing them are dogshit.

wildfox997/28/2018, 3:56:51 PM6 votes

i can't understand why it have to last that longer, like 0.5 sec just for parring the ability they threw at you would be enough ,why is he allowed to sit behind it for a whole 4 sec? as you said it basically remove some champions from a fight, and no you can't reposition because it's almost as large as a lane when maxed so you should literally go on enemy team for doing so

also the interactions with some abilities should be fixed, boomerang skillshots (ie. Ahri/Ekko Q,Talon W) should "bounce" on it : instead of reaching their max range they should stop on the windwall and then come back from here instead of disappearing and deleting a part of a champion kit even if the target is NOT behind the windwall the same should happen with Draven Q,axes should bounce on windwall as if they hit a champion without doing damage instead of disappear

report yasuo7/28/2018, 6:41:58 PM6 votes

And the champs without projectiles Yasuo has one less ability against but who cares about that right and that its 26-18 sec cd and his core build has no cdr where most champs such as Lucian can just dash around his wall. And you say u know how to play against him pls u have to bait the ability out then use your ults.

Altiverse7/29/2018, 2:14:34 AM6 votes

Imo it should just cost him 100 Flow in order to cast Wind Wall. This neatly solves so many things:

  • Yasuo will have to actually choose between having a personal shield or casting Wind Wall. More decisionmaking, less brainless shields.
  • Ranged opponents will be able to play around it. By damaging Yasuo and consuming his Flow, you can know you're able to use your high impact spells until Yasuo's flow bar fills up again.
  • On the other side, Yasuo seeing a projectile being cast, will have to choose between using his Wind Wall to block the projectile that will damage his Flow and "disable" his Wind Wall shortly after, or instead consume his shield to block the projectile instead and only use the Wind Wall mid-fight, after refilling it.
Ionian Vulpix7/28/2018, 4:49:32 PM5 votes

I hate to be a buzzkill especially on a Yasuo hate thread, but that thing with Poppy's ilt is a bad example. Ground can't hit Flying.

StillHittinLicks7/28/2018, 9:33:20 PM4 votes

People are always trying to find a way to nerf Yasuo. Leave the damn champion alone. This champion has went through enough fucking nerfs already. If you're playing a ranged champion, learn to bait out his ww ,then fight him. Y'all are really trying to find every way to make Yasuo completely useless. If you know he has ww up, why try to fight him? There are A LOT of champions that need reworks, and dont get em. Yasuo always gets some type of nerf. Talk about those champions. Yes, I am a yasuo main and im tired Yasuo always getting some type of nerf.

zaire907/28/2018, 8:24:20 PM4 votes

Also looks like you just listed every champion thats ranged and said he negates them entirely while yeah hes annoying dont just say shit thats entirely wrong too try to push your yasuo hate agenda

LMAOOOOOO7/28/2018, 11:22:03 PM4 votes

tbh it should be like "The Climb" cinematic where it lasts for like a split second

TheHobbits7/29/2018, 12:46:09 AM4 votes

Projectiles that hit wind wall should detonate rather than be deleted. Velkoz T-shot should split, Sujani R should bust and leave the circle, Jinx Rocket should explode.

Thats all that needs to change imo

Alternatively, keep the delete projectile part and make it a slash ability. A good yasuo will be able to knock one projectile as it come close.

The Dreamwalker7/28/2018, 10:09:37 PM3 votes

I just think that that damn windwall shouldn't be allowed to block ultimate abilities. Or, at least make that thing have a damage threshold that kills it.

Sp33d Zer07/29/2018, 12:50:31 AM3 votes

58 is actually too low. You forgot people like Gragas, Amumu who rely ENTIRELY on skillshots to get a good fight, and people like Riven and Zed who can get blocked from the biggest parts of damage in their kits.

VełKoz Bot7/29/2018, 9:42:37 AM3 votes

Velkoz While I love watching Yasuo try to windwall my ult, I find it very frustrating that he can block my W. I think the most disgusting thing I've seen it stop is Nami 's ult.

I like the idea of the wall breaking after stopping enough abilities, just like Morgana's Black Shield.

Leetri7/29/2018, 12:15:03 PM2 votes

I like how you say "don't nerf it just rework it" and literally every single suggestion is effectively a big nerf. You need to add some positives if you want it to be a rework and not just a straight-up nerf.

ChasmOfTrossm7/28/2018, 7:34:19 PM2 votes

I am a fan of the idea of the wind wall dispersing after taking a certain number of projectiles, or something that would make the wall actually be something destructible.

BenTheDegenerate7/28/2018, 10:30:23 PM2 votes

I have one thing to add, idk if its been said before. If Jinx's rocket or Ashe's arrow hits it, remove the direct hit damage but still have it explode so that my ultimate directed at a team isn't completely denied by someone's panic button

Yaskamasandwich7/28/2018, 4:08:54 PM2 votes

I'd be okay with his windwall if it was more like a personal bubble for him, Wind Shield I guess. Maybe make it active only when his flow is full and/or active.

Blaene7/28/2018, 3:49:02 PM2 votes

When I play Heimerdinger, I just drop my Turret on the OTHER side of the Wind Wall where he's thrown it up. Problem solved.

Ahris7/29/2018, 12:51:10 PM2 votes

Idea of new W:

Yasuo sends out a wind slash that is very long range, any projectile hit will disappear.

It would also deal X damage for perhaps scaling with crit and attack speed lowering the cd.

This way, Yasuo may require more skills to use his W but it would be on a short cd, deals damage, and ranged.

What do you guys think?

Luminier7/29/2018, 1:42:36 AM2 votes

In all honesty I'm for an idea that replaces his Wind Wall with another defensive skirmisher ability, much like Irelia's W or Fiora's W. However, the ideas presented in this post to replace/rework Wind Wall are horrendous and extremely useless. They're pretty much just nerfs across the board. Keep in mind, Yasuo has been balanced around Wind Wall. So if you take it out, he would need something as equally powerful.

sarii fox7/29/2018, 10:00:31 PM1 votes

Sure the windwall is annoying, but the thing that irks me about yasuo more than ANYTHING is his dumb ass passive shield. I know you just have to prock it with an auto, but I just find it so stupid and pointless. Even a spell shield that blocks one auto/spell would be better than an actual shield that just absorbs your whole early combo.
