@Riot Will the Ruined King ever be a thing?

I'm just curious. He is my favourite lore character and he has so much potential. Any thoughts on the topic? Does he have the possibility to be a real thing in the future?

Riot has said they are not against making the ruined king a champion. The only thing is they don't want to make him a champion for the sake of making him a champion. If they have a kit that they think would work well with his theme or someone at riot has a good idea for him then we will probably see him.

I think the big question is how to differentiate him from the other shadow isles champs. Because pretty much every champion has a certain theme that is unique to them,so the ruind king would need to have something that sets him apart from the rest(and no being a king isn't enough).

I mean Mordekaiser is pretty much our deathknight/evil overlord/walking armor Thresh is a jailer/warden and pretty close to a reaper(in terms of design at least) Hecarim is a centaur Kalista a vengeful spirit Maokai spooky treant Yorick gravedigger/necromancer Karthus lich(also more or less a priest of death) Elise spider-queen

So he'd have to cover something unique that doesn't cross any of these themes. Skeletal warrior would be the first thing that comes to my mind, but that is likely impossible due to skeletons(at least human ones) being taboo in china. Regular zombie, banshee or ghoul would also be themes that no one currently has(ok yoricks mistwalkers are essentially ghouls, but they aren't the champion),but feel unfitting for a king.

Vampire would also be a possibility, but vlad is essentially one anyway and elise also has elements of one(not to mention that we won't know what they'll do with eve).

will the dead man be a thing?

I swear I've been told that Mordekaiser is the Ruined King. I learned that forever ago, was it an internet lie all this time?

I'd imagine if the Ruined King was a champion, he'd probably be extremely paranoid and delusional, perhaps still convinced he can bring his wife back again, with the Shadow Isles being a constant reminder of his failure, and his crown a mockery of what he once was. So perhaps he'd be a tortured misguided soul who does the same unto others, but still entirely convinced that what he does is right, and goes insane when it's brought up that it is otherwise.

No one on the Isles sees him as a King, and no one anywhere else views him as such either. Everyone hates him for what he did, and he has to suffer through that for eternity. Perhaps he could wander the Isles still searching for a solution, but unlike Kalista, Maokai, and Yorick, he does not even know where to start, but doesn't want to admit that to anyone else or even himself. So in his grief he kills living beings that wander there in agony since they remind him of what he and his wife once were. Everyone wants him dead for good, both on the Isles, and throughout the rest of Runeterra.

Just a thought of some basic lore I had in response to what I've seen posted so far. What do you guys think?

Riot has already said that they want to do it eventually, but they have to make sure they get it right.

The Ruined King needs to remain a character of myth and lore. There's no mystique in storytelling if you make every notable character in history a playable character- it detracts from their mythos as a character of great importance. Some characters needs to remain in the realm of myth to give the world some character and unknowns.

I don't know if anyone said this yet, but when Meddler answered this question he also mentioned that one of the ideas floating around Riot Games while designing Yorick was to make HIM the Ruined King, but now lowered to a simple, grave-digging man after the Ruination. However, they decided against this idea since (in my opinion as well) it wouldn't do much justice for either of the characters.

I would feel his queen would be a thing instead, since she is the first undead on the isles and the "origination" of the whole curse.

Has a powerful sword but the character himself seemed not to have any merit to himself besides being a ruler like azir but azir had mystical land connections

I think he will someday, but his kit would have to be impressive because he kind of is the "final boss" of runeterra.

That'd be jumping the shark to me, like making Kassadin's daughter a champion. Although at this point since every champion and their mother fights the void now, I doubt they remember Kass :P

If we get him as a champion one thing is for sure- he won't have his sword.but if he buys botrk he must have some sort of interaction with it

DarkRitual9/25/2016, 8:09:13 PM1 votes

Riot wants him to be a champion, but have yet to decide on an actual kit concept that felt right.

Jad9/25/2016, 11:12:55 PM1 votes

I think it would be a sweet to have him made into an actual champion. I don't think creating him should be forced though.
