Greetings Summoner from Freetopia,

[ this is a copy of my original post on the EUW boards. I copy-pasted it here so you guys can read it too ! ]

During my free time, I love masturbating by brain with game mechanics, and now that I caught your attention with a sexual metaphore, let me show you how I picture the little mummy in the league.

Wait, wait... why would you want to rework Amumu ?

You're right. Well, I don't think that Amumu is unbalanced, but I think that his kit is really basic, would I dare say... boring ? More over, with the recent updates, I got inspired into reworking a champion so it can make you feel his uniqueness. You wanna pick the little mummy, better be prepare to undergo his sadness, because nothing will make this kid happy, ever ! ( Ever, I said )

That being said, for the glory of fan-made designs, let's dive into this rework !

Summary / Introduction: Amumu will get sad from different events happening during the game, and will keep this sadness deep in his heart. So goes the Curse of the Sad Mummy. When he cannot hold anymore, his sadness bursts out, causing a lot of trouble to his enemies. During the burst, Amumu gets rid of all his sadness. For now... The timelapse between two bursts is called a cycle. During a cycle, sad events affect Amumu's sadness, making him feel one of three kind of sadness (Isolation/Solitude, Mourning/Loss, Guilt). Each type of sadness gives a different passive bonus, and modifies the burst at the end of the cycle.

**Amumu Passive - Eternal Sadness ** Sad events occuring near Amumu will build up Amumu's sadness. When the sadness is all filled up, Amumu will be consumed by his ultimate ability: Curse of the Sad Mummy. Amumu can cast Sand Tears (W) to prevent his sadness from going higher and preserve his mindset.

Amumu starts the game with a neutral mindset. As soon as sad events occur, they will affect Amumu's mindset. Amumu will feel the emotion which received to more events.

Whenever something sad happens, Amumu gets the buff Shuriman Sadness that slows the mummy for a percentage of his movement speed.

Mindsets :

  • Solitude
  • Amumu earns points of Solitude when he is** far from** all allied units.
  • Shuriman Sadness while isolated.
  • Leaving the isolated state gives Amumu the Reunion buff, a movement speed bonus. > Yes, I lied, even Amumu gets brief happy moments sometimes !
  • Mourning
  • Amumu earns points of Mourning with every unit he kills.
  • Shuriman Sadness when the unit dies, for 2 seconds.
  • If the unit was killed by a champion, this one also suffers from Shuriman Sadness. > That creep better not have been between Amumu and the champion !
  • Guilt
  • Amumu earns points of Guilt when a nearby allied unit dies.
  • Wasn't me (move. speed bonus) for 1 second, then Shuriman Sadness for 2 seconds. > _The first thing amumu wants to do after committing such an act is run away but, you cannot run away from your own guilt. _

Remember that all the passives are not happening at once ! With Isolation, jungling is painful, but the sadness income is steady and you're rewarding with a gank booster. Guilt will help you last hit in lane, but will punish you for ever greeding. Finally, Mourning is a Lose/Lose situation that punishes the enemy for last hitting at the cost of your own mobility and giving all the cards to the enemy. I can see a lot of synergy in a duo lane and/or pre-teamfights. Also, who needs speed when you have Bandage Toss ? The most interesting thing about this, is that your sadness is reset after your ultimate is unleashed. So, while you cannot benefit from all the passive at once, you can try to control your sadness to get what you need at each cycle !

Amumu Q - Bandage Toss (unchanged) - costs some mana on cast > I tried my best to stick to the champion everybody knows and I didn't need a change to this ability.

Amumu **W - **Despair Sand Tears - toggle - costs some mana/s

> In my mind, Amumu feels more Shuriman if his tears are sand tears. After hundreds of years, his original tears dried out in the desert of Shurima. Unfortunately, that did not put an end to the mummy's crying... even scarier isn't it ? :D Also, in terms of animation, a moving sandstorm makes more sense than a puddle.

Toggled:

  • Sand Tears causes all enemies in a close range to suffer a flat amount and a percentage of their maximum health as magic damage.
  • Amumu's sadness increases the damage dealt by Sand Tear, up to +100% damage when charged at maximum.
  • Crying prevents Amumu from building up Eternal Sadness, sad events are totally ignored and cannot change Amumu's mindset.
  • Sand Tears will be automatically toggled when Eternal Sadness reaches 100%. Untoglling it, or running out of mana, sets Curse of the Sad Mummy off.

Amumu **E - **Tantrum Shuriman Heart - costs some mana on cast

Passive: When Amumu is hit, a small amount of sand tears falls on the ground. > Litterally leaves a little untargetable amount of sand on the ground.

Active:

  • Amumu opens his heart, bringing back all the tears left on the ground, anywhere on the map.
  • Enemies on their way get hit with magic damage and slowed.
  • Each tear trapped in his heart increases Amumu's Eternal Sadness.

> Shuriman Heart is an alternative for Tantrum, with more visible power for both allied and enemy players. If well set up, it gives another tool for crowd controlling. Also Amumu can help from far, if the tears are at a good spot. It also becomes interesting to counter-jungle as it will create unexpected angles for Shuriman Heart and potentially allows amumu to steal buffs, with a proper use of vision !

Amumu R - Curse of the Sad Mummy - passive

Base effects:

  • Amumu becomes corrupted by Eternal Sadness, as he ends another cycle. All his sand tears burst out of his body creating a sand storm mixed with bandages around the cursed mummy as he rise in the air.
  • Enemies caught inside the storm get trapped in the bandages, making them unable to move or attack for 1 second and then drastically slowed while inside the storm.
  • Enemies trapped suffer magic damage over time.
  • The storm lasts **3 **seconds. > Basically close to what it is now, except the area of effect is smaller and if you enter later (or if you're pushed inside) you still get hit. The duration is longer but with a small radius, you cannot get the entire ennemy team without the help of your allies. If your allied with Jayce for instance, he can push an enemy inside.

Additional Mood effects:

  • Isolation - Moving Sand : > After some being isolated for to long, Amumu's deepest feeling was to get close to someone. Beware, he might not be so friendly now.
  • The ground becomes sand in a larger radius.
  • As long as they stand on this sand, enemies get pulled towards Amumu >_ It doesn't prevent them to do anything though, they are just sliding. Also, you know what happens if they reach the storm !)_
  • Mourning - Death no more : > After having witnessing so many death, Amumu's heart couldn't bear losing another ally.
  • Allied champions who enter the storm will get the Come to Mummy buff, that shields the allied champions inside the storm and 2 seconds after they leave.
  • The shield is based on the target's missing health.
  • Guilt - Eclipse : >_ Guilty Amumu doesn't assume his curse and wants to run away as fast as possible._
  • During his ultimate, Amumu can right click a location nearby. At the end of the storm, his bandage will reconstruct there and not in the center.

_> Each emotion gives Amumu a totally different ultimate, even though the core stays the same. If you have noticed, each emotion tries to be close to a game style. Isolation, is well suited for junglers, and offer more crowd control and engagement power. Mourning is more of a support style. The passive targets the farming carry and the ultimate can be used to save someone as well. Finally, the Guilt mood allows a mage Amumu to gain full benefit of his farming and killing, while giving this less tanky version a way to run away after his ultimate set off. _

If you read all of this, thank you so much ! Please leave a comment below even if it's just to cheer me up. Working on game designs has always been a part of my life, so constructed criticism is warmly welcomed ! (Also, if you happen to be a Rioter working in the Game Design team, call me, I need a job soon and I'll move from Tokyo to LA right away !)

Anyway, be ready to read from me soon.

The passive seems like way too much to work around. I like the "isolation" aspect of the passive which really would make Amumu feel more like a sad and depressed character: something that, currently, is not portrayed well enough through his abilities and voice. Personally, i feel these changes would come across really awkward even though, on paper, it sounds really awesome. I would love for Riot to remake Amumu almost entirely from scratch perhaps saving only the sad mummy; a sad mummy is an unique concept in a gaming culture that is becoming increasingly built upon copy and paste from other games (I'm looking at you Ace of Arena). All in all though, I applaud your time and effort. The artwork, I'm assuming it's yours, is far greater than something I could have done <3.
