@Riot Are older Legendary skins getting updates?

Awkbak BR·3/17/2015, 8:14:15 PM·252 votes·37,947 views

I recently noticed that the new 975 skins coming out with recall animations and some special effects; I feel as the old skins started losing their spark. Don't get me wrong, I like the history behind these skins. But putting this into perspective, if Gentleman Cho'gath was released today, it would probably be sold either as a 975 or a 1350 skin.

I can honestly see on a marketing perspective as of why you wouldn't update these skins. But I feel as if the incoming new players would feel more attracted to these skins if given a bit more attention.

Gentlman Cho'gath is absolutely my favorite skin in league though. And I would find it amazing if he had a recall animation where he would sit down on a crimson early 1900's couch, taking a sip on his favorite Noxian Blend of tea while listening to the finest classical music.

Here are my questions to** Riot:**

Have you thought about or considered going back and working on the original legendary skins?

What impact does changing the old skins have on new players vs more experience players?

What does changing aspects of old skins mean to new sales rather than newer ones?

Would changing aspects of skins affect the perception of players in a negative way?

What do these older skins mean to you as person who works at Riot games?

If newer players asked you 'Why would I buy these skins?' what would you answer?

If you do take time to read and answer these questions,

Thank you!

Blood Lord Vladimir is so underwhelming compared to Soul Stealer. They should either update old legendaries or drop their prices and refund the difference to the people who bought them.

I think this is a good point, Older legendaries should probably either recieve an update or be lowered in price, because I was just thinking about this myself. I was lucky enough to get it as a player reward, and don't get me wrong its amazing, but Gentlemen Cho'Gath is, by comparison to other legendaries, simply not the same value in terms of rp.

At the very least the ultimate line of skins should be maintained. Pulsefire is looking kind of sad these days.

they did change firefighter tristana with the rework

Gentleman Cho'gath is incredibly poor for a legendary. It's essentially an inferior re-color with a VO. I know this because I bought it on release when it first came out. It has no particle effects, and actually an inferior base texture (as in worse than the default texture). Check him out in-game, the skin color on his head doesn't even match the skin color of his model, LOL.

Bloodlord Vladimir and Brolaf are also just VOs at a premium price, which is BS.

Yup lol that Ice Toboggan Corki lol

During Gentleman Cho'Gath's recall, a big red chair (like Hired Gun Lucian's but bigger) and a table should pop up. With tea on a coaster on the small round table, Cho then sits on the chair smoking a pipe and reading.

Gentleman Chogath is worth 390 rp

Pikana3/18/2015, 12:27:57 AM3 votes

I say update the particle effects so they all have unique ones, and possibly add new voice overs to REALLY old Legendary Skins. Like all you kids whining over Blood Lord Vlad and Gentleman Cho and I'm sitting over here with my Magnificent TF and Alien Hiemer (who sadly doesn't talk only in ***AK!***s)

TerraRising3/17/2015, 10:45:59 PM3 votes

I'm not going to go into too much hyperbole but while this should happen, it's not going to.

Basically speaking, boosting old skins, like "The Magnificent Twisted Fate" into what now qualifies as a Legendary skin would require the same effort as creating a new Legendary skin from scratch, but the only ones who would benefit would be those who bought MagTF back in the day.

So, there's no way Riot's going to approve and do all that work and get nothing for it.

They must update the old legendary skins, they look like tier 950-1300 RP now, especially Nunu Chogath DrMundo skins... Can we compare Nunu ult skin with the Darius one same price? no! Riot should either reduce those 3 old legendary skins price to 950-1350 or finally update the champions and their skins... Nunu is on the "visual update" list since 2 years now, Chogath is on that list since 3 years . They need a visual update Sion -lvl.

PulsefireEzreal needs a little update he just feels very clunky to play with atm

Mythàl3/18/2015, 5:43:41 AM3 votes

Given how Riot now has a set standard of how they fix prices, Gentleman Cho is not just outtdated visually but that fact that he has no new particles or animations on that skin makes it not worth its Legendary status, without an update. It's a 1350 tops, purely because of the VO.

I would love to see it get updated because the concept is so great, but honestly... they likely won't. It isn't profitable.

A lot more skins then legendarys that need updating in pricing or updates to make them worth the price they are.

I think that they should update Pulsefire Ezreal even though that is not an "old legendary skin" but for a skin that cost over 3000 rp it looks like shit, at least in the early lvlsEzreal

junglerboy163/18/2015, 12:58:44 AM2 votes

They should at least give the old ones price reductions.

I've been wondering the same about older champs and their taunts and dances. I know some of them that they're planning on giving a Rework are not likely since they are getting redone but ones that are old but are off the rework radar could use new stuff. I mean, TwistedFate got his dance changed almost as soon as gangnam style came out, why not just change up some of the older ones like that... and yes there is one in particular I'm thinking of... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3svTLXjiwA

Calderweiss3/18/2015, 6:55:54 AM2 votes

Yes, they should. The quality bar has been raised.

BeatzBoyFTW3/18/2015, 8:36:42 AM2 votes

Since we're on this topic, here are a list of prioritize champions who needs their legendary skin to be updated bad:

Chogath Galio DrMundo Tryndamere

The only champion who is in dire needed for an update more than those listed above:

Olaf

^seriously, Brolaf man. The only difference I see in this guy is just voice-over, all his moves are still the same as ever! At least Corporate Mundo gets to throw a file instead of cleaver..

Give us a new Pulsefire Ezreal or give us death!

Riot : what ,... money? no sorry , we can't.

JalupenoBuns12/4/2015, 12:10:26 AM1 votes

are you kidding, you are going to jump straight to chogath? gentleman cho to this day is my fav leg skin. he has dif voice and dif skin and to me the uniqueness is what makes something legendary, not the particles. if there is a cho skin who looks and sounds like the other ones but with minor particle differences idc, for me to buy something that is not legendary it has to have some truly bad ass shit going on with it. like a koolaid man jax ;)
