Attalai, Thief of the Ages

Primary: Support, Secondary: Mage

Overview:

Attalai was originally supposed to be a rework for Zilean, dishing out zones of time control and working around numbers. Attalai is a utility-based champion who relies on his autoattacks to actually steal from his enemies. His kit relies around utility and utility debuffs on the enemy team, including affecting ally’s and enemy’s cooldowns. He can change the battlefield and whatever stands in it, able to reroute skillshots through the manipulation of space and time.

It could sound a little something like this. A little softer, more humble, more basic drums, but I ain't no composer. :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQea1f6W00w

BASE STATS: HEALTH: 355 [+87 per level] HEALTH REGEN: 4.5 [+0.55 per level] MANA: 210 [+48 per level] MANA REGEN: 6.6 [+0.7 per level] RANGE: 550 ATTACK DAMAGE: 47 [+3.2 per level] ATTACK SPEED: 0.669 [+4% per level] ARMOR: 17 [+3.3 per level] MAGIC R: 30 [+1.25 per level] MOVEMENT SPEED: 325

Passive: Time Thief

http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20070114131414/wowwiki/images/8/80/Spell_arcane_blast.png

Upon taking fatal damage, Attalai would immediately revive with 30%/35%/40% health and 70% of his mana. But Attalai can steal time itself, as well. Every tick of damage dealt upon the enemy champion or for every monster kill, he would reduce his revive cooldown by one second, pickpocketing his enemy's time. Time stolen from killing larger or scoring kills or assists against champions monsters would additionally reduce his death time. Cooldown: 420

How does it work? Attalai's damage against his enemy champion allows him to pickpocket time. This time reduces his passive's cooldown. It's a rather long cooldown, but ANY damage, including burns and autoattacks and passive damage, would allow him to shorten his cooldown. Monster kills also contribute to cooldown of his revive time. Kills, assists, and large monster kills reduce his deathtime cooldown too!

Q: Quantum Shift

http://www.wow-petopia.com/images/icons/Spell_Nature_Lightning.png

Active: Attalai shoots a rift through time and space in a linear skillshot, slicing through ally and enemy units and champions alike. Using Quantum Shift reduces his own cooldowns by 1/1.5/2/2.5/3 seconds; hitting allies would shorten their cooldowns by one second; hitting enemies would lengthen their cooldowns by 0.5/1/1.5/2/2.5 seconds. In addition, all entities hit would then have rifts open from within them. These rifts would emerge perpendicular from where Quantum Shift was shot, dealing 90/110/130/150/170 (+55% Total Ability Power) to enemy units affected by Quantum Shift and enemies hit by the rifts. Enemies could get hit by mutliple rifts and rifts could hit multiple enemies. All enemy units hit by the rifts would be marked by Time Ripple for four seconds. Autoattacks reduce Quantum Shift's cooldown by one second. Cost: 50/60/70/80/90 Mana Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10 Seconds Cast Radius: 1250 units Rift Diameter (Unit caught in center): 600 units

How does it work? Attalai shoots a skillshot. This skillshot doesn't damage anything- only affects enemy, ally, and your cooldowns. EVERYONE HIT is marked with Time Ripple. EVERYONE HIT becomes your new sources of damage. (Oh and that cooldown on the enemy? That's a silence, but scarier. It affects all of the enemy's cooldowns!) When you shoot the skillshot, it affects every unit it hits. As the skill shot goes through a wave of enemies, lines would appear form the perpendicular direction you shot your skillshot. These are the rifts. It's these things that deal the damage. It hurts the enemies only, including the ones hit by the original Quantum Shift. Plus, it gives a good amount of enemies Time Ripple, something useful for your other skills!

W: Timescape

http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/313/9/5/wow_spell_icon__mage___ice_barrier_by_af_air-d4fmhef.png

Active: Attalai puts a radial time shield around an ally champion or himself. Any enemy projectiles would stop around an ally for 2.5 seconds wherever they hit the radial shield, abilities able to hit other units if under suspension. After the 2.5 seconds, the Timescape shield would collapse, allowing all the suspended projectiles to hit the unit and skill shots to continue their new paths if they haven’t been detonated. Cost: 95/95/95/95/95 Mana Cooldown: 25/23/21/19/17 Seconds Cast Radius: 1200 units Shield Radius: 350 units

How does it work? You can choose any ally champion, including yourself. Around you or the ally would be cast a circle of protection. Being in this 'circle of protection' means that enemy projectiles and skillshots would be halted at its shell or within the shield. You move, skillshots stay glued to your shield. You're fly paper. You can blow up Jinx's missile on your friendly Alistar instead of your 1 HP self. However, after the time span your shield would dissipate. Poof. Gone. What happens? Skillshots continue their paths, now changed by your movement. All the particles aiming at you, however, now, also come right at you, now in a burst. You have 2.5 seconds of blocked particles. Particles aiming at allies would also be halted, still directed at them after the shield dissipates. Afterwards, that damage comes in a burst. Kill things, use Hourglass, but you got 2.5 seconds.

E: Chronoflux

http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20070113175645/wowwiki/images/1/19/Spell_arcane_arcanepotency.png

Toggle Off: Hitting units marked with Time Ripple deals an additional 50/60/70/80/90 (+30% Bonus Attack Damage +20% Total Magic Damage) magic damage. Toggle On: Attalai activates his gauntlet, allowing his autoattacks steal 1%/2%/3%/4%/5% of the enemy's attack speed and 1%/2%/3%/4%/5% of the enemy’s movement speed for two seconds. Attalai can stack stolen speed per autoattack up to five times. Cost: 14/15/16/17/18 Mana per Attack Cooldown: 4/4/4/4/4 Seconds

How does it work? Toggle off, you're dealing the damage you started from Quantum Shift. Notice you're dealing magic damage with additional Attack Damage stats. It could help for the AD Carry build whenever you're running around! Or you can go standard AP and watch the magic happen. Toggle on, you have an autoattack-based exhaust, stealing stats as your own. Watch out, too! You're not dealing the bonus damage while this ability is toggled on! You are dealing an exhaust, but less damage is coming from you. Try using the special two seconds to toggle off to max out your damage on an enemy! NOTE: Toggle On with Runaan's Hurricane only steals the stats from your main target. However, the slows can affect other enemies hit by Runaan's projectiles.

R: Temporal Leap

http://cdn.grand4you.com/upload/items/1317387461_461.png

Active: Attalai activates his aeon staff to create a portal by shifting time and space, automatically laying a portal in front of him, Attalai lays the other door elsewhere nearby. The gates stay open for three seconds. Any unit, champion, and projectile could go through any of the doors to teleport to the other only once. Attalai and champions affected by Timescape could use it to and fro. Enemies affected by Time Ripple cannot go through the gates. Additionally, Ally cooldowns would accelerate from jumping from one door to the next, their cooldowns reduced by three seconds. Enemies would take 150% of the damage from projectiles launched from the opposite gate. Cost: 100/100/100 Cooldown: 120/80/40 Seconds Cast Radius: 1500 units Distance away from primary gate: 300 units Gate Width: 400 units

How does it work? Attalai places a portal in front of him automatically once you choose another location to drop the portal. Any units or projectiles can go into any of the portals and teleport to the other immediately. Works like Windwall and Braum's shield- except you or the other projectiles don't disappear. If a champion is trying to reach a target across the gate but runs through it, the champion would still try to get to the target, but now the champion would be running from the other portal. If you're trying to get away, run into the portal and you would be at the other! Plus, team cooldowns would be reduced. What does that mean. Even a short portal jump for within a teamfight to reorient and put the team in a better position would allow not only repositioning, but also cool down reduction, spells readied up for the battle. Escaping from an enemy only means shoot your Quantum Shift and enter the gate to get a headstart. Oh and take advantage of the projectile bonus. That accelerated Jayce blast could accelerate even faster, and Ezreal? Yeah you just turned that miss into a hit! For specifics, enter behind, exit away from epicenter. Enter in front, exit back to epicenter. That means if you use it like a Yasuo windwall... yup! You just redirected the enemy Jinx rocket a bit further away but STILL aiming at you! Use this as an advantage for bonus spell damage! Aim at the enemy team, you're not blocking anything, but you just amplified that Whirling Death! But remember, skillshots entering at a 30 degree angle would go out at the supplemental angle measure. Enter obscure, exit obscure. Nothing is realligned, just redirected. NOTE: You CANNOT autoattack from the other gate to hit through the other. That just ain't right.

LORE:

*The temple walls began to glow, cinders falling from the now creaking clockwork. The engines still roared, hungry for more electricity, more magic. Bodies scattered against the temple walls, singed and charred by countless blasts of chrono-energy, started to become fuel for the craving flames that fell from the ceilings from the bursting gears and halted machines, still pressing onward. Omena laid steady, wishing to find the aeon staves, which were now dashed and destroyed upon hitting the floor. The priestess could only pray as she clutched two staves next to her, eyes open, tears flowing from her eyes like subtle silver streams. Attalai knew this was his judgement, but not hers. The priestess, who kept the thief safe from executions time and time again, now surrendered to her own fate. His throat was swollen with mystic smokes which filled not only the room, but his entire world as he knew it. He gagged as he stumbled across the tremors of the temple, the cinders falling upon the two quivering survivors. This was his final moment, and justice had been served. But his spark would not go out to the flames without a moment of redemption. He leaped over Omena, her body marked and dashed by onslaughts of magic energy emerging from the unstable chronocore which burned and fell apart above them. He held her close, trembling, but her body held steady. "This death is mine. Not yours." The thief's eyes opened, hearing the words come from the lips of an angel, his guardian angel. His eyes flooded, and his mouth began to tremble. She was wrong. She couldn't have said that. How dare she say that? The violent humming began to vibrate within his bones, but it didn't make him cower. His body protected hers, but she began to shove him. She wriggled away from him, trying to unfold her hands which held two aeon staves, one staff bent and the other staff straight. "No..." the thief's lips trembled. His voice was coarse by the ashes he breathed in, the ashes of those he betrayed and stole from, the ashes of the temple he desecrated time and time again. Still hunched over, he protected nothing, and the priestess, her face still white as snow, now looked at him with a stability of her own, one arm stretching towards him, clutching the untouched aeon rod. His eyes were glazed with a clear vision; he hated her for loving him and rejecting his protection. Yet, she offered the only thing that would stabilize the unstable chronocore. He knew it was not enough. Was it his mission to take the only unwarped aeon staff and calm the core? How? The sky was falling and the floor was opening up to swallow any living thing that dare survived the impetulant flames of condemnation, flames that were supposed to be his prison guards. His executors. It was vanity. But his arm stretched for the other rod, but the angel put it behind her. "No- You must- go." Attalai stared at her. Her short words were interrupted by a painful silence. Her mouth, her eyes, glowed in the midst of the dark flames with fell from the heavens. The soldering dust fell upon her white garments. The core above them rumbled with passion and destruction, and for once, he was afraid. His mouth searched for words, but her eyes found them. She knew his protests and she knew his fear. The great city of Urtistan, now condemned to flames and destruction by its own creation, the burning coals of judgement to annihilate a people that sought more than glory and more than immortality. And among the city, a sinner and thief that escaped death by the grace of a pure priestess who deserved none of the judgement cast upon her and those she loved. Why. Why did it have to be her. But she knew. Oh, she knew what he was thinking. His fear, his love, his certainty, his life now ashes like those which were scattered in the air. The ceiling gave way to the magics which grew from the chronocore. Bricks adorned with gold and topaz fell from the offering gates upon the two, now smeared with blood and dust and ashes. The machine roared and groaned, collapsing, snapping into pieces as nothing could be done to continue the cycle of time which protected the city. And Attalai held in his hands the remnants of something which could have done anything. Now, nothing. A vessel meant for nothing except for selfish reasons. A vessel capable of bending time and space, the last vessel of a thousand which now burned among the dying souls which cried out in the bright burning dawn, including the soul of the one most pure, and it cried. A voice now inaudible to the groaning and crashing of the temple above them. "Go!" Attalai knew only one thing that he could do with the aeon staff. On his knees he lifted the rod and smote it upon the floor between them. He told her to hold on and stay close, but even he could not hear himself. Ashes clouded the room, only glowing with the fires which now burned upon the blackened skeletons against the walls. The once bluish tint of the magic which calmed the chronocore now raged scarlet and red like brimstone, scraping against the walls hoping to escape its demise. It panicked as it fell down the stories of the temple and roared louder and louder as it stumbled and consumed through the floors to the earth below, growing and burning, dragging down the roof which was once the icon of the great city of scientists and sorcerers. And it fell. It fell with a vengeance. The temple itself began to fall into itself, crumbling and shining. There was only one living creature in that temple when the chronocore fell and collapsed, incinerating the buildings and engulfing the city in a beautiful flame. There were none to witness how it fell. There were none to witness how the city was utterly destroyed or how it disappeared into oblivion. But there are only three that could testify to the true greatness of the city and its horrible destiny- the dark creature, the lost chronokeeper, and the thief of the ages.

Time will say nothing but I told you so, Time only knows the price we have to pay; If I could tell you I would let you know.*

The lore's pretty sweet, very well done.

Only real complaint I have is the use of "Rod of Ages". I'm not 100% sure if that's the item you can get within League of Legends or a special implementation for your story. If it's the former, it would be nice if it was a little clearer they are the item you can grab in the shop.

Concept art gets enough of the point across on what the stroy describes. I really like the mage-thief take rather than just another rogue, so you've got a nice uniqueness to this guy from the get-go. He has an overall distinct silhouette as well, which is a solid plus.

Again, only issue here is the Rod of Ages. For several champions - there weapon is almost a second character, and being an item everyone can grab in the shop takes a bit of that away.

His kit is a solid start, complete with some interesting bells and whistles and cool swag.

It's needlessly complex though. Simplicity is a huge part of design, especially within a game like LoL. It aids in readability - which is really important when a game has over 100 champions each with 5 abilities. While it would be cool for your own champion to have a very intricit ability, in the grand scheme of things it's much better for the overall design of the game if an ability functions more like a logo. The champions QWER + innate should serve as different colors and different things to describe a champion as a whole, but shouldn't be super in-depth and stand-alone-y by themselves.

For the most part - a typical ability does 2 things besides damage, and might do just damage if it's applied in a really interesting way. All of this guy's abilities do like 5 things and each one of those things has 3 different scaling paths and unique interactions.

I'd recommend trimming the fat. Keep what makes the ability interesting in tact, but try to simplify it to it's most basic level. If one part of his kit does a thing, you probably want to remove it from elsewhere in his kit as well. It makes each ability feel more unique and purposed to a specific end, it allows the power for doing that thing to be specialized in, it makes it clearer to your opponents what abilities actually do, and it greatly aids in simplifying a kit.

For instance - the time shield doesn't need a residual 1 second buff after it's initial buff. It makes a certain degree of practical sense the way you have it reducing damage of things that are slowed down, but so would Cassi's ult lasting for a year or Annie inflicting fear and immolation with all of her abilities.

anywyas, cool stuff.

I love everything about this champion, I can pray for the day he joins the League.

Hey, I like his name. I like it a lot, but...<w< >w> You should refer to him as "C" Huh? Huh? C, Vi VI Jinx X

Do eeet!

You have all the time in the world

Season 9 Amumu9/19/2014, 6:02:07 AM3 votes

he seems interesting, i feel like timescape should have more too it though, like maybe if the shield is hit with a projectile, and the unit using it auto attacks an enemy part of that projectiles damage is dealt as a modifier. or perhaps the next enemy unit afflicted with time ripple has the projectile redirected towards them (keeping its range however)

DUDE! I WOULD TOTALLY BUY THIS CHAMP! If you put this onto the riot website and didn't tell people it was currently a champ concept, I'd think he's already in game. You obviously put an immense amount of time into this, and it all looks so well thought out. I really like how this guy seems to be a support or jungle built around mobility and utility. I really hope to see this guy officially announced someday, I'm rooting for ya!

Nahara9/19/2014, 11:22:28 PM3 votes

I'm confused a bit by how the abilities would work. Would be nice if you could give use examples so we could better understand them.

shadwraith999/19/2014, 11:54:12 PM3 votes

This is a pretty awesome and unique champion concept, though I do have some comments. 1. Love the lore! Great job! 2. His passive is a bit shaky, He doesn't seem like the best jungler in terms of sustain and clear, so farming in the jungle would be hard for him, forcing him to lane, if he is bullied out of farm, he will not build it up as fast, and if he gets too fed, he can farm like crazy and constantly be alive, this is like putting a 1.5 ap ratio on vel'koz's ult, it would cause a really fed vel to stack ap and wreck in teamfights. But then again, this can pose as his weakness and strength, to counter him you would need to play a lane bully, I'd suggest nerfing it a little bit, because I feel that late game, 5 seconds is a bit too short of a death time, though it may not make a difference if he can't farm well, if he is fed, he can farm fast and gain stacks, and then every time he dies he will revive 5 seconds later at base. Though I do like the idea of him stealing time away from other champions and minions. 3. I really like how unique the shield move is, with it slowing down projectiles, one thing though, this would not be very useful for dodging projectiles, it would be more of something you cast on an all in assassin who is going in and needs protection. 4. I like the idea of stealing attk and movement speed. 5. The ultimate is a very complex ability that would be pretty complicated to cast, it can be used in strategic ways, however, unskilled players and players new to the champ wouldn't know how to use it effectively. In conclusion, this champ concept is an awesome idea, It would be a really unique champion with a very difficult and hard to master playstyle.

Riot please! make this champ! or at least use em in your next game!

Aevo 559/17/2014, 11:40:47 PM3 votes

He cant have the "worth" quote for his death. That's reserved for the great overlord Primetime Draven. Really good champ concept though. Passive might need a few tweaks though. late he could just farm jungle and get his death timer to 5 before fighting

Phoneixflare9/18/2014, 7:42:53 AM3 votes

So this is one of the most unique champion concepts I have ever come across. Honestly, this champion feels more like what Zilean SHOULD be and that's pretty awesome. I really like it a lot and I think Riot should make this champion 100 percent. Zilean kinda needs a time buddy. He needs someone in general. I'm not even completely sure why Zilean exists. I don't see where 'bombs' fit into his 'time' theme where as you seem to take time and time travel to a whole awesome level in your champion. Plus, I REALLY enjoy a character with good lines/scripting because that extra effort means something to players like me. Little things Riot, give us more of those little things.

I have a suggestion for his q:

make it so that before you reactivate it, you can walk through it from one side to the other like a portal, or where that is what you do when you reactivate it instead of a second skillshot thing.

and another suggestion for his w:

you could have it where on ally cast it makes the ally untargetable and unable to use abilities or auto attacks for x amount of time, and when not cast on ally it creates a wall at target location that stops projectiles and units for 1 second. feel free to adjust times or anything if you want to implement it, just my 2 cents.

I feel like he will end up being super-toxic, with his "projectile-blocking", death timer reduction, and free team mini-tele. He'll be nerfed to a point where he's super-niche if his kit goes in as it stands.

But I really enjoy the concept, especially dat lore.

So I ended up making a thing for this guy. A thing involving VA and one now-sore throat. https://soundcloud.com/thundergod1020/attalai-voice-recording

I love the concept. I think it is still a little too busy, but the concept (and the lore!) are really good.

I would make a couple of changes to help focus this character:

Passive: The revive is so hard to do as to be totally pointless. He first has to farm up about 30 to 40 large minions or jungle minions in order to get to the max reduction at around minute 20. Then, he has to kill something right before he dies. If he does die, then he needs to farm up another 40 to 50 large minions to have a chance to do it again. If he can't get to the max, then his passive is still not that great. Death timers really only come into play in the last couple of minutes of the game. I'd rather have {{summoner:10}} and pop it exactly when I need to rather than have a passive that maybe will help in when needed, but is so unreliable that you can't play around it. As a hypothetical situation: If you died before a big push, you would come back quickly but wouldn't have enough time to refill your passive. A few minutes later, you have a big teamfight and lose, and they push into your base. You couldn't farm enough after your last death because the push was starting, so you just have to wait because you lost your passive 6 minutes ago.

I would instead use a revive for the passive. Have it be a long cooldown, but it gets reduced when you hit an enemy with anything. That way you are stealing time from them, and when you steal enough, you get to use it all to come back to life. If you can't farm much or are behind, the passive is not useless, since it will come back on its own with time.

Q: This is a VERY busy spell. I am glad you added the explanation, but it was still hard to really picture how this will work out. My main problem with this spell is that it is so hard to use it optimally. You need the debuff for the rest of your kit to be effective (minus your W), but you need to get rid of the debuff for this spell to do damage. So now you are in the position of needing to hit the target to apply the debuff, you need to time the 4 seconds to get the most damage out of your E, then you need to reactivate it to remove it and actually do damage. In addition, you need to remember to keep it on if you want to block movement through your R gates. Since so much of your damage is tied into that debuff, if you can't wring every bit of use out of that debuff, you are going to feel weak. Also, does the cooldown shift make all of your opponent's skills go on cooldown? Or does it just affect those that are already on cooldown? Does the secondary shot hurt the enemy it originates from?

I would take this in one of two ways:

  • Have it operate like Diana 's Q: It deals damage (maybe the cooldown shift, though that might be a better ability to have on the passive) and applies the debuff. Lower the cooldown a bit (maybe to 8 seconds at all ranks. So much of your damage is tied into this debuff, you want it to be up a lot. It can almost be 100% up when you have 40% CDR. You hit people, they get the debuff, and your E can do more damage. Simple, easy to understand, and it feels good. Very similar to hitting someone with Ahri 's charm.

  • Have it be a stand alone skill. You hit people, and then pop off the secondary effect when people are in position. You need to either have a damage drop off when people get hit by multiple shots or you need the spell to not activate off of minions. If it allows a secondary shot from each minion, then you are going to have people get 1-shot from a decent minion wave. Not fun to play against. The debuff also needs to indicate where the secondary shot is going to go (like Orianna 's ball direction indicator).

W: I like this spell. Turns your tank into a combo of Braum and Yasuo 's windwall. Do ranged auto attacks (like from a minion or any ranged champ, really) continue on to their original target, or do they all converge on the shielded target?

I'm sorry, but I was on a time limit, so I only saw his passive. I promise that I'll look at everything else later when I get the chance. Anyway, I think the passive is interesting, but a little risky. Risky as in it could be over-powered, considering the fact that he can shorten its cooldown AND get both health and mana back. Personally, I say at LEAST shorten the mana restored, and maybe lengthen the cooldown a little because he will be shortening it again anyway. You know what I mean?
