Possible Amumu Rework

Ok so I think that Amumu could use a rework. As you can tell by my name, I main Amumu. Most people would agree that he is almost completely useless without his ultimate, and I would agree with this. I won't defend him or anything, his ultimate is the best and pretty much the most useful part of him. He will still be played relatively the same, but I hope to give him more to do in a team fight rather than just ult and stand around. I will try to make him a little more on the CC side of the spectrum rather than the damage side so some of his damage will get nerfed. So here are the changes:

Passive - Cursed Touch: No changes here!

Q - Bandage Shot:

Removed: 1 second stun

Added: 1 second entangled

80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 (+ 70% AP) > 70 / 120 / 180 / 225 / 260 (+ 75% AP)

Why: I think that some of the other changes that I would make to his kit might be heavy in CC so I'd think I would make it so the enemy could have a chance in fighting off Amumu or the laner he's ganking for. As for the damage nerf, I feel like once again he'll be a bit too good for ganks at the early levels if he can land his Q. The higher AP scaling can help compensate the lost damage, even though he builds full tank usually.

Nerf for tank Amumu because lower base damage and a buff for AP Amumu because scaling.

W - Despair:

Damage: 5 / 7.5 / 10 / 12.5 / 15 (+ 0.5 / 0.625 / 0.75 / 0.875 / 1% (+ 0.5% per 100 AP) of target's maximum health) every half second > 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 (+ 1% (+ 1% per 100 AP(+.01% per Depression stack on Amumu)) of target's maximum health) per second

Added: Every second Despair is active Amumu gains Depression stacks. For every Depression stack Amumu has he does more damage, but he is slowed and it consumes more mana.

Depression stacks max out at 100 and will drain at a rate of 10 per second when Despair is not active.

The Despair and Depression stacks will work like this: For every Depression stack Amumu has he will do (.01% of the target's maximum health) more damage. So if he had 10 Depression stacks he would be doing .1% of the target's maximum health more damage. (There is no good way to word this is there?)

If Amumu had 10 Depression stacks at rank 1 with no ability power and he was against someone with 100 max HP he would do (10+10+0+10) = 30 magic damage per second. He would have 10 damage for base damage, 10 damage for percent of the target's max health,0 more damage because he has no ability power, and 10 damage for .1% of the target's max health.

Every Depression stack will slow Amumu by .15%. Slow will still be applied even when Despair is not active. Maxing out at a 15% slow.

Mana cost: 8 per second > 4 per second at 0 Depression stacks. 6 per second at 25 Depression stacks. 8 per second at 50 Depression stacks. 10 per second at 75 Depression stacks. 12 per second at 100 Depression stacks.

Leveling up will not give more % maximum health damage anymore, but it will give Amumu more Depression stacks per second.

Added: +1 / +2 / +5 / +10 / +25 Depression stack(s) per second while Despair is active.

Why: These changes to Despair are pretty complicated, but the basics are that the more he will have it up the more damage he will do, but the slower he will run, and the more mana it will consume. It makes him so much better with his clear in the early game, especially with blue buff and could make him more of a threat in the jungle rather than just sitting there and taking it when he gets invaded when he's taking red buff. Not only that, but it'll make his ganks better and reward Amumu players that use their Depression stacks wisely.

Buff for tank Amumu because he is usually around longer than AP Amumu, but a nerf for AP Amumu because he has to have it active for at least 4 seconds at max rank in order to have the full effect.

E - Tantrum:

Enemy champions that have Cursed Touch applied and hit by Amumu's Tantrum become Amumu's Best Friend. Amumu can have multiple Best Friends at once. The second time Tantrum is used, it changes to Let Me Give You A Hug. Let Me Give You A Hug does less damage than Tantrum and has less scaling (because you don't want to hurt your friends of course!), but it pulls all of your Best Friends towards you! Removes Cursed Touch from all enemies hit by Let Me Give You A Hug. Let Me Give You A Hug can only be used once every 20 / 15 / 10 seconds. Cooldown depends on level and cooldown reduction from items is not applied.

Added: Let Me Give You A Hug.

Damage: Let Me Give You A Hug: 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 (+ 20% AP)

Range: Let Me Give You A Hug: 350 effective radius

Mana cost: Let Me Give You A Hug: 50

If you use Tantrum against a non-champion enemy (Neutral monsters, minions, etc.) Tantrum will not be changed into Let Me Give You A Hug.

Why: Most people say that Amumu is only effective with his ult. This is true. His ultimate is very powerful and can change an entire team fight, but outside of that he's useless. Ganks are easily avoided, his clear is pretty good but not the best, and he might be at the point in time where building him full AP, or Grenade Amumu, is the best thing for him in higher elos. This change will make is so that he can have one more big CC in his team fights, and possibly even more if he lives through it as tank Amumu. The lesser amounts of damage he does will probably be unnoticed because he is a tank and doesn't build AP unless he's ahead or going full AP Amumu.

Buff to tank Amumu because the more crowd control the better! Nerf for full AP Amumu because of less damage.

R - Curse of the Sad Mummy:

Damage: 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 80% AP) > 125 / 200 / 250 (+ 80% AP)

Why: Amumu's ult is very powerful. Extremely powerful. In combination with his new Tantrum it would be a double CC mess. His less damage is obviously a need.

Just an overall nerf.

So that was my idea for an Amumu rework! I hope that people will understand what I'm trying to strive for. He's a lot like Malphite where his ultimate is super good, but the rest of his kit is rather mediocre. Hopefully this rework would fix his presence in a team fight and help him in higher elos. I just got this idea so it's not fully fledged out. I wanted to make Amumu a little more oriented on CC rather than damage. Despair costing more mana and Tantrum turning into Let Me Give You A Hug will encourage most Amumus to buy Frozen Heart, Abyssal Mask, etc. As most Amumus should be doing. Amumu's W could probably get a nerf if it gets too OP in the early game, but that's what the slow and mana cost are for. His Let Me Give You A Hug will do nice for ganks, but he will be doing a lot less damage if his W isn't active. Also his base damage on his W did not get buffed, if you look closesly it says .5% per Half Second > 1% per Second. So the damage is the same it just procs not as often.

Pros of the rework: Amumu has more CC and an even better team fight Will encourage more thinking when playing him with having to manage Depression stacks with your W Tank Amumu is overall buffed May be acceptable in high elos

Cons of the rework: item 3116 may become a vital item when playing Amumu due to slow on his W and not being able to catch up with his enemy AP Amumu is overall nerfed Could be insanely OP in lower elo and due to a buff

I hope that it was at least interesting to read! If you have a differing opinion like: "Amumu doesn't need anymore hard CC" just tell me. Just remember I'm not able to test these and I'm pretty much rank Dirt 6 in League so I could, and most definitely am wrong. I hope I didn't waste your time! Also, maybe the Q could just root the opponent instead of entangling them.

Hey,

I used to main amumu like die hard and he is still okay overall but he is not like he used to be reason for it for me was the change to his passive. I dont understand why riot ever changed his passive from doing 25 magic pen on max rank to 10% extra true dmg its just not the same. I tought that riot wanted to promote diversity but with changes like these they just make it impossible to play him with different builds. With the magic pen passive full tank amumu was okay and it got better with the new one but i used to play him like a bruiser and those kinds of builds are litterally impossible now. Something like cinderhulk--> boots --> rylai's --> protobelt --> zonyas --> liandry's/abbysal something like that. These items have all been changes / nerfed this last half year in benefit to tank amumu so has is passive. This is all nice and all but it only benefits 1 type of playstyle. I understand where it is comming from but im sad to see it. I would love to see his old passive come back and i think allot of his problems now will be solved with it.
