Lore

Although her cousins Lux and Garen rose to fame in Valoran, Iris Crownguard was still quite well-known among the elite of Demacia. While her cousins fought for their city on the Fields of Justice, Iris socialized with the ruling class of Demacia, dancing with barons and dining with dukes. Even though her wealth, beauty and magic helped her climb the social ladder, her personality ensured that she was disliked by many. Many a noble was insulted by Iris’ constant critiques and insult, but she was tolerated because of the accomplishments of her family, despite the fact that she looked down on everyone else.

Eventually, others grew jealous of the entitled young girl, and schemed to take advantage of the wealth of the Crownguards. The family received many threats and blackmail notices, but none could predict what would happen next. One evening, a Noxian witch kidnapped Iris from her home and held her for ransom. It was two weeks before the family was able to gather the high sum requested by the witch. When the time came for the exchange, everything went perfectly until Iris decided to insult the witch one last time. Furious, the witch cast a spell over Iris, turning her into glass to ensure that other people, who she found inferior, would only see themselves when they looked at her.

For a time, Iris tried to return to the life she knew. However, she found that without her former beauty, others couldn’t tolerate her criticisms. The last party that she attended ended in her being thrown to the ground by a duchess she insulted, shattering her glass body and leaving her cracked and scarred. Her sorrow at her new form turned to hate for the one that had transformed her. Seeking revenge, she turned to the only person that would be able to help her: Vayne, the Night Hunter. Vayne agreed to help Iris track down the witch, on the condition that Iris trained with her in the League of Legends to one day succeed her. Iris reluctantly accepted, knowing that vengeance would be well worth her services.

“Her body may be shattered, but her resolve is as strong as ever” – Vayne, the Night Hunter
