Vespa, the Hive Queen

Role: Mid/APC

Appearance

Vespa is a tall slender female champion, who wears a black and white striped tank top and skirt with yellow heals. Her eyes are yellow as well, and her hair is red and styled in a beehive. In her ultimate form, she appears simply as a cloud of particles. Her voice sounds like millions of the same voice talking at once.

Abilities

Mark of the Hive (passive): Each of Vespa’s auto attacks marks the enemy with Honey. Each stack of Honey grants a 3% damage bonus on the cast of a spell, and can be stacked up to 5 times. Honey stacks disappear after 5 seconds if another auto attack is not performed. Honey stacks are increased to 4% bonus damage at level 9, and 5% bonus damage at level 18.

Winged Frenzy (Q): Vespa sends one of her bees to attack a targeted enemy, dealing (90/120/150/180/210) (+50% AP) magic damage to the target. (Cooldown: 8) (Mana Cost: 50) (Range: 650)

Organized Strike (W): After a 0.5 second delay, Vespa sends her bees forward in a straight line, dealing (75/105/135/165/195) (+50% AP) physical damage to enemies and slowing their movement speed by (10/15/20/25/30%). (Cooldown: 12) (Mana Cost: 60/65/70/75/80) (Range: 850)

Scattered Chaos (E): Vespa encases herself in a hive-shaped shield, protecting her from (80/140/200/260/320) (+40% AP) magic and physical damage for 5 seconds. At the end of this period, or when the ability is activated again, Vespa stuns enemies within a certain range for 1 second. The stun is not applied if the shield is broken within the 5 seconds. (Cooldown: 35) (Mana Cost: 110) (Range: 275)

Wrath of the Hive (R): Vespa scatters into a swarm of bees, making her untargetable and allowing her to ignore terrain and unit collision for 5 seconds. While in this form, she gains 25% (+60% AP) movement speed. Activate again to reconverge at target area, dealing (150/250/350) (85% AP) magic damage to nearby enemies upon impact. (Cooldown: 100/80/60) (Mana Cost: 150) (Range: 700/800/900) (Damage Range: 250)

Lore

The Howling Marsh is an area that few denizens of Valoran will enter. Its shores are said to be filled with undead and other unspeakable monsters. However, this remote corner of Runeterra is where the champion known as Vespa feels most at home. Vespa’s family lived in the Howling Marsh for generations, as it is the best place to raise bee farms, which was her family’s line of work. When Vespa’s parents passed away, she took over the farms in their place. Her tender care led to a unique relationship between her and the bees she cared for. Some said the bees would even follow the commands that she gave them.

This rumour is what ultimately led to her undoing. The leaders of Noxus heard the stories of her incredible bees, and dispatched soldiers to take both her and the bees into the custody of Noxus. The ultimate plan was to use her bees as a new type of biological weapon to decimate the enemies of Noxus on the battlefield. However, Vespa defended the bees with her life, not wishing any harm to come to the creatures for whom she had cared for many years. Eventually, Noxus realized that they could never have possession of the bees. However, not wanting them to fall into enemy hands, Noxian sorcerers conjured a strong curse to destroy both Vespa and her bees. The curse was an incredibly complex one, and not one that the sorcerers had ever performed before. Unfortunately, something went wrong, and the entire plot of land was destroyed.

Vespa managed to survive the curse, but when she awoke, she didn’t feel like she used to. Although she still looked like her former self, something about her body seemed different, like it was moving independently. She soon realized that the curse had trapped her consciousness in the body of her bees, allowing her to disassemble and reassemble her form at will. At first she was thrilled, as she had finally achieved complete harmony with her precious pets. However, when she looked around, she saw that the Noxians had destroyed the home that her family had lived on for generations. Anger soon filled her, and the need for vengeance consumed her. She made her way to the Institute of War, and in a voice that sounded like a million voices combined into one, requested entry into the League of Legends.

“They wanted to use my friends as a weapon. Now they shall be destroyed by what they could not have.” – Vespa, the Hive Queen

Quotes

On Selection: “The Hive is at your will, summoner”

On Movement: “Quickly” “We will end them” “We are many” “The Hive cannot be stopped” “Hurry friends, battle awaits” “The Hive will destroy you”

Joke: (scatters into swarm) “Now THIS is what I call multitasking!”

Taunt: “You are but one. We are many.”

Skin Concepts Junkyard Vespa: a really trashy (pardon the pun) outfit, with messed-up hair and makeup, with a black, grey and green colour scheme. Instead of creating bees, she would create flies.

This is a really interesting concept, but I think you could give some more thought. I'm gonna sound pretty brutal for the next few statements, so I apologize ahead of time.

Thematically, I'm getting a sense of a rage-filled swarm of wrath out for revenge, but I'm not quite seeing that level of energy from her abilities, especially her Q. I understand you want single target damaging ability, but the name "Winged Frenzy" doesn't quite fit with the "sends one of her bees" part. Vespa is a queen, and she controls an army. A swarm of bees to damage a target is more like it. This is the one ability I think could use some rework to make it more unique and thematically relevant.

As well, I'm not sure her passive fits well with her role. It's designed for single target type damage, also like her Q ability, but the rest of her kit is more focused around an AoE teamfight-oriented mage role. What kind of role do you see her playing as? What niche does she fill?

That being said, her W and E I can see work, sending out a torrent of bees for each ability. Her ultimate confuses me a little. First off, is she able to attack and use abilities when it's activated for the 5 seconds? If so, then that makes it incredibly overpowered. A 5 second state of untargetability where you can freely move and cast all your other abilities leaves for absolutely no counterplay. In 5 seconds, you could easily reach the backline of the enemy team, wipe out the carries and get out without any loss. If it only allows for mobility, then I can see it playing very well with her E, making her a good engager for teamfights kind of like a Lissandra. Still though, 5 seconds is a really long time to be untargetable, especially with that incredible movement speed buff.

Those are my thoughts so far. Looking forward to seeing more!

I feel like she should have some sort of relation to Zyra. Both Vespa and Zyra have control over a part of nature, so why not have a relationship (Positive or Negative). Also, if you don't mind another skin idea, give her a beekeeper skin. She wears a normal beekeeper outfit, and should she have a weapon, give her a long net.
