[Champion Concept] Nano Bot themed Champion work in progress/ideas

So I drummed up the idea of a nano bot themed champion that would look along the lines of Xerath made up of thousands of little nano bots with some buzzing and flying loosely around the center of it. I don't have a story of anything like that, just a rough concept of abilities and style.

***Passive: ***When out of combat the nanos begin to repair itself regenerating it's health. Also regens nearby friendly units who are also out of combat. When in combat the nanos deal a small amount of damage to nearby enemies. I thought of this being a good passive when thinking back to Command and Conquer Red Alert 3. If anyone played as the Empire, you would know that their structure that produced the heavy units like tanks, also had the ability to heal nearby machines, and with current tech we have today people are also talking about using nano tech to heal from inside the human blood stream. Long ways away, but still the idea.

** Q:** Nano Blast...would pretty much be a large ball of nano bots are hurled at the enemy, similar to Annie's pyroblast. The Q also has a passive ability that happens when the Q is not on CD. The passive would make auto attacks throw a small number of nanos that deal damage over time.

W: Target Lock....This would focus all the passive nano bots to stop granting the small aoe heal out of combat or the small damage to focus that on either a friendly or enemy. The idea behind this came from ants. Ants use pheromones to leave trails, and when they find something other ants then can sense from that pheromone trail to follow because there is food on the other end. Bees also leave a signal after stinging, that lets other bees know to attack. So I figured this would be a good idea to go along with the swarm mentality.

**E: ** This is where I start to slow down with ideas, I thought of maybe an ability that makes the nanos go into a defensive formation giving them a shield to themselves or an ally maybe? But I like the idea to give them an Ability named Swarm. It makes the nanos go into a rage where they become a loose non-targetable cloud of bots dealing damage to all enemies for a short duration. Imagine Vladimir's pool but in the air. this would give the champion some kind of escape if needed.

R: Lastly the R! With Kalista upcoming, I can see Riot isn't afraid to have ults that may rely on a team mate. Luckily this R isn't a one time choice who you team with, it is once per cd. What it would be called is Host...or something like that...and what it does is allow you to take a nearby ally champion as a host for a short period of time, making you untargetable and giving them a nice regen similar to how Swain's R works....not as strong though, but something that would be nice and could make a difference. their basic attacks or spells also apply the passive ability that sends little nanos out that deal damage over time, you can also cast your spells and abilities from the host, but you cannot move freely.

So this is what I thought of, I was so excited that I had to right it all down and then share it as soon as I could!! Please give some ideas, feedback, lore, all that stuff! This I think is just a good springboard that we can improve on together!

btw I saw a little picture on google images of a nano bot monster, I thought it was cool...but looks too much like zac imo...if anyone would like to draw it to their own perception feel free, but I thought it should look more like Xerath, but still manage to keep the identity it has as a swarm! NOT A SINGLE BEING.

You definitely have some interesting ideas here and a swarm-themed champion would be an awesome addition, but I have a few questions/suggestions.

Questions

  • Why do you want the swarm to look like Xerath? To be more specific, why would the swarm even take on a humanoid form?

  • What kind of playstyle are you envisioning for this champion? So far it sounds like a mage, but what about beyond that? Does the swarm depend on its auto attacks? Its abilities? Is it defensive, offensive, utility, or a combination thereof? Building off my previous question, a swarm of nanobots has no pre-determined, rigid form, so it can have a lot of flexibility in terms of movement and splitting abilities.

Suggestions/Ideas A swarm champion has a lot of potential for unique gameplay mechanics. It could have an ability that could divide the swarm into multiple entities and thereby increase auto attack damage. It could have a fury/rage-like mechanic where its abilities depend on how much of the swarm remains (i.e. using abilities and taking damage decrease the swarm; it'd be like a reverse-berserker as the swarm needs to stay healthy to keep its damage up.) Also, there's a Pokemon called Vespiquen who has some attacks that are swarm-inspired: Attack Order, Defend Order, Heal Order.

Here are my suggestions for your kit concept:

The Swarm uses Health instead of Mana

  • Passive - Growing Swarm - Health regeneration. As the Swarm's health recover, its size and strength grows. When the Swarm takes damage, the Swarm shrinks and its movement speed increases.
  • Q - [No changes] Nano Blast - Skillshot that does damage on impact and leaves behind nano bots that deal damage over time.
  • W - Target Lock - The Swarm marks the target and the Swarm and allies deal increased damage to the target while it lasts. The Swarm cannot attack anything else while the mark is active.
  • E Concept 1 - Frenzy - The Swarm becomes a vicious cloud and its movement speed increases. Enemies that walk through the swarm are damaged and slowed. [I'm not completely sure what the effect to enemies should be, but it should be some form of crowd control].
  • E Concept 2 - Divide - The Swarm splits into two entities for a duration, doubling its attacks and abilities. [This is similar to Zed's shadow clone.] If both mini-swarms survive, they will merge together again when Divide ends. The Swarm cannot Divide if its health is too low (i.e. the swarm is too small to divide.)
  • R - Swarm - The Swarm envelops an ally to protect them or an enemy to damage them. The target can still move and cast spells.
