So what if there was an optional in game voice chat? You could hear people and not speak, speak and hear people, or none of the above. I'm just wondering as to what everyone else thinks of the idea. I understand the downsides, like some people may just not want it, but that's why it's optional. So you automatically connect with everyone on the team, but you have the option to join a call with them or not. I just thought it would be a cool idea so you don't have to have another software open.

What do you guys think?

I'm comfortable with the other option, honestly; I speak and nobody hears. It's great for shit talking and not getting punished.

All jokes aside, a third party VoIP has its advantages over built-in; players are more likely to take voice chat seriously if they went out of their way to use the program and invite others to join them. With built-in voice comms that everyone has by default, you get a lot of disrespectful children (read; adults) that troll as many people as they possibly can because it's far more annoying than text chat.

Voice chat is also notoriously difficult to police. You can tell people to kill themselves in chat once and you will always get caught because there's a record of it and there doesn't need to be 10 games in a row of you getting reported before it's investigated; but with voice, there's no such recording and a report for calling someone a buttface is equal to a report for racial slurs.
