Corsair, the Changing Tide

General Design Philosophy

Corsair was designed to be an Ability based marksman with similarities to Caitlyn and Xayah. I wanted him to be an marksman that benefited from AD, AP or Hybrid builds. Using Jhin's passive (As I couldn't think of another way to do it, if you do by all means let me know!) I created a way for him to have both AD and AP in his kit without making people waste gold on items they don't need.

Lore

Corsair was just a simple Noxian fisherman with a thirst for adventure. He ventured all across Runeterra searching for the best fishing spots, the best bars and of course the best stories. One day he had the bright idea to try fishing in the hallowed waters of the Shadow Isles. On his way by boat, that all changed. When the dark mists broke over the horizon, in an instant the shrieks and cackles of lost souls swooped across his vessel. He woke up chained to a stone slab, and things went bad. They wanted to break his mind to turn him into a tool of the Old Gods. The knives and needles hurt, but the whispers hurt more. They kept telling him it would end, if all he did was let them in. He refused over and over again. Most would have died, but his resilience to every cut and every break just made the evil whispers linger. By the time he was rescued, he didn't give in, but he was still broken. On a given day, he may seem fine. He'll laugh, cast his line, chew a bit of jerky, and relax in the warm sun. However, sometimes the whispers come creeping back. A hole was torn into his mind, one he can't seem to close. Periodically, the Old Gods wiggle a tendril into that hole, and he just has to grab his harpoon gun and head to the front lines to let out the darkness. Letting it consume the enemies of Noxus, lest it consume him first.

Abilities

Passive: Moriel Every 15/13/11/9/7 seconds Corsair loads a dark magic serrated tipped harpoon into Moriel, his next basic attack on a champion deals an extra 40/50/70/90/100 (+45% AP) damage. This can critically strike.

Q: Blunt Shot Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10 Mana Cost: 40/50/60/70/80 Target Range 1100 Active: Corsair shoots a dark magic hammer tipped harpoon in target direction dealing 30/40/50/60/70 (+35% AP) magic damage to the first enemy hit and 80% to all enemies hit after the first. If it hits an enemy champion the harpoon stops, knocking them back and dealing 40/50/60/80/100 (+40% AP) bonus damage.

W: Dark Overcast Cooldown: 9 Mana Cost: 60/65/75/85/90 Passive: Corsair gains 2% - 40% based on level (+80% bonus AD)(+3% per 10% critical strike chance) AD as bonus AP. **(1% + 1% per level up to level 11 then 4% up to 18) ** Example: 120 base AD; 100 bonus AD; 100% CSC.

  • 72+80+30 = 182 bonus AP

Active: Corsair leaps 300 units in target direction throwing sand in the opposite direction of the leap in a cone, blinding enemy champions for 1/1.3/1.5/1.7/2 seconds.

E: Keelhaul Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/12 Mana Cost: 60/70/80/90/100 Target Range: 950 First Activation:_ Corsair shoots a dark magic barb tipped harpoon attached to a rope, at target enemy champion dealing 50/80/110/150/190 (+45% AP).

Second Activation: Corsair fires a spike attached to the other end of the rope, if it hits terrain the enemy champion becomes tethered to it. They are slowed by 10% - 60% based on their distance from the terrain. The tether breaks after 2/3/4/4/5 seconds or if the enemy champion uses a dash, blink, teleport or leap to break the rope.

R: Topwater Lure Cooldown: 120/100/80 Mana Cost: 100/110/130 Target Range: 5250 Activate: Corsair uses his giant fishing rod/ harpoon gun, Moriel to throw a hook to target ground location from a great distance, rooting himself during the 2 second cast time. The hook is stealthed. If an enemy champion walks within 200 range of it, they become hooked. Pressing R repeatedly starts reeling them in, ignoring terrain. Dealing 40/60/80 (+60% AP) magic damage every second for 5 seconds. The hooked enemy champion can struggle by moving in the opposite direction. After 5 seconds they are pulled 100 - 1000 units based on distance to Corsair from farther to closer and take 70/100/150 (+40% AP) magic damage.

Nothing can break the line. Corsair can be CC'd during the hook. Corsair can move freely during the hooking but is rooted when struggling and during the last pull after 5 seconds.

**Thanks so much for reading, I welcome any feedback. This champion is one of my favorite in my arsenal and I will be making his lore a lot better in the future. I just put the general quick history I jotted down for him instead for now.

I am working on art for this champion and will update it when I can.

Any balancing help would be appreciated too!**

Greetings Into Obscurity. It will be an honor to give feedback to your champion design.

Passive: You want this to be a AP/Marksman hybrid correct? This passive is okay, but it could be better. As of right now it bears a striking similarity to Quinn's Harrier passive, but it seems to be missing something... Perhaps add a bit more interaction to this passive. Maybe try adding a cooldown reduction effect per auto-attack or range amplifier? That way it can be more reliable as a harass tool. It really depends though, does this champion rely more on burst or dps? I would suggest try making this a stronger harass tool though since you did classify it as an "Artillery" based champion.

Q: I have no qualms with this ability, but it's base damage is quite low for an "Artillery" based champion.

W: This W passive is interesting, as it adds quite a window of build options to his kit; including items such as Hextech Gunblade and Guinsoo's Rageblade. The active is quite well designed. The leap distance isn't too overwhelming and the blind effect isn't too obnoxious. However, I do recommend you increase the cooldown of this skill, due to its utility.

E: Interesting interaction with the terrain collision mechanic. So if I'm guessing this right, it's a point and click spell that turns into a skillshot for its secondary activation? I'm not too sure about the E's slow duration though. It depends heavily on the range effect radius of the tether.

R: I think this might be a potential opportunity to introduce a new type of CC here; some kind of vacuum/drag effect. Drag: A unit that is being dragged is moved in a specified direction or to a point. Unlike Airborne where the unit is stunned and unable to perform actions, the unit is able to move around and cast certain abilities/summoner spells, but is Grounded (unable to perform dash and blink abilities). Additionally the unit is slowed if moving in the opposite direction of the source and gains movement speed moving toward the source.

I like this ability; it's quite unique, but it's a little contradictory to the design of a marksman, who is supposed to be a bit reliant on auto attacking. Find a way to incorporate the marksman's playstyle into this in some way or to some other ability.

Synopsis: Overall, I love the thematic design of the kit and its abilities. This champion has potential to be its intended role, but it's lacking some things... First of all, it needs some kind of built in attack steroid and/or auto attack amplifier to be able to function adequately as a marksman. Your Passive has the potential for it, but it's not quite there yet. Secondly, your champion lacks significant poke to function as its secondary role as an Artillery mage (via free harass tools). Consider finding ways to incorporate this into the kit. But be weary, you need to find a balance between single-target DPS and waveclear.

Anyways, good luck out there, Summoner!
