Wraith The Lord of the Night -Jungler-

There were few places on the Ironclad homeworld that were worse than the battlefield. The undercity slums were one of them, and it was where Valcoran Wraith thrived. Born into a relatively caring family and orphaned by a Void cult, he all but raised himself in the undercity slums. He brought his own brand of order to the undercity, that is to say, order under him. At age 6 he was a murderer. At age 10, even the gangs feared him. At age 20 he had run off or ended the gangs, and took his place as king of the undercity. It was then that he met Ferrum, who offered him the chance to put his skills good use in a newly formed division designed to strike fear in and demoralize the enemy. Under the guise of avenging his family, he hastily accepted, fully intending to do nothing but expand his domain. He was promptly laid out by Ferrum, and told that the thirst for vengeance he could keep; however, he would either leave his ambition for dominion in the undercity, or neither he nor it would ever leave.

After surviving the genetic altercation and augmentation by Ironclad scientists to make him a soldier worthy of Ferrum’s command, Ferrum allowed him to create his own armor. Resulting in a midnight blue suit with a scowling skull for a helmet. At the head of the Demoralization Corps, he brought terror to the Heralds. Whether by crashing, shrieking like a banshee, into their ranks from above, or leaving his slain victims on display. Whenever his unit was deployed, fear reigned in the day, and terror ruled the night. At one point Wraith even made a Herald commanders lose his mind without ever touching him by leaving one of his guards hanging on display every night for a month. His prowess as a killer was only ever tested against the Heralds’ pet Void-spawn named Kha’Zix. Who, in their last fight, was injured heavily, but took plenty from Wraith in payment. Wraith was forced to undergo severe augmentations to save his life. His arms replaced with new ones of steel, and his left leg was now a mixture of skin and metal articulation.

Now on Runeterra, Ferrum has ordered Wraith to find and root out any Void activity that might be hiding in the underbellies of the various City-States. But while he’s at it, Wraith might as well remake his empire. “I do what I do, because it’s what I’m the best at…but, God help me, I love it so.”

  • -Valcoran Wraith, Lord of the Night*

+Extras: If song were to describe Wraith’s personality, it would have to be Lost- by Avenged Sevenfold. Background: Since it’s October, I’ll go with my spooky champion. Wraith is from the same train of thought as Ferrum, only this time I used a Raptor (specifically the Raptor Lord) of the Night Lords as a base design concept. I was very tempted to add an effect to his ult that negated the kill announcer for the enemy team outside of the zone. For example, if a team is doing a 4-1 split push and the 4 get trapped in the ult and killed, the 1 split pushing wouldn’t get the announcements until the ult ran out or he entered the area. Mainly for the “oh <insert preferred word here>.” reaction of the people outside when it fades and the announcer just says, “QUADRAKILL!” But then I remembered that the coding on that would be a nightmare of bugs and glitches worse than patch 4.17, I wouldn’t want to wish the coding of that on anyone.

=Interactions: Wraith walks slightly hunched over, in haste or with a movement speed of >450 his running is occasionally interrupted with him boosting with his jump-pack. -Champ Select: “We shall show them terror!” -Click responses: “I go.” “We’ll leave no one standing.” “They shall be haunted.” -Idle animation: Wraith crouches on his toes and rests his arms on his knees, like he’s brooding. -Jokes: “Helmet?” Wraith taps his head, “What helmet?” -Taunt: Wraith drops to a knee and draws a circle in the sand with his claws, then stabs it emphasizing the last word. “Don’t be afraid. Be petrified!” “Prepare to serve as an example!” -Dance: Wraith does the Bartman +Special Interactions: Special Event: The Grand Hunt- Stipulations: There must be a Rengar on your team, and a Khazix on the enemy team. -You all must be level 16 or higher, and have at least 2 kills or 5 assists. -Event: You, Rengar, and Kh'Zx will receive a prompt. Either you or Rengar must slay Kha'Zix, assists do not count. -If Kha'Zix kills either of you, the event ends for the slain, and Kha'Zix gains his perk. However the event does not end, and the survivor can still kill Kha'Zix for his perk. If Kha'Zix manages to kill both of you, a silver skull-helmet appears on his head. -Wraith's perk is that Fear the Night now stacks to 150. Yours and Rengar's prompt will say: "Only one can take the head of Kha'Zix. Let it be you!" Kha'Zix's will say: "Two birds, one stone. Prove yourself the better!"

Kha’Zix- “It’s an eye for an eye, Voidling. And we owe each other a lot more than that.” Rengar- “Only one of us can have him, Rengar, and it will be me!” Janna- “Your ideas for reform are futile, Janna, only fear can keep a mad dog in its place.” Viktor- “Consider this a field test.”

Items/Build: Starting: item 1039, 4xitem 2003, item 3341 Essential: item 3209 or item 3154, item 3071, item 3153, item 3111 Offensive: item 3078, item 3142, item 3123 Defensive: item 3022, item 3143, item 3102 I would start with and max first Banshee’s Wail, to aid in early camp clearing/ganking CC. Your second skill point should go into Jump Pack, to use in early ganks, and 3rd should go back into Banshee’s Wail. Your 4th point should be in Prey Sight, as it is around that level/time that people start warding for dragon. +Item interactions: BoRK- "A sword fit for a king." Executioner's Calling: "I hear the calling." Frozen Mallet: "They will try to run, they won't get far." Ghost Blade: "By the time they see me, it'll be too late." Mercury Treads: "Like quicksilver."

+Friends: ~Ferrum: Wraith’s commander, and is one of the only people to beat him in, pretty much one-sided, single combat. Which earned Ferrum his respect, and making him the only person whose orders Wraith will obey. ~Viktor: Viktor doesn’t look at Wraith’s form in horror, instead Viktor sees his body as glorious proof of how superior the merging of man and machine can be. Wraith allows Viktor to study his augmentations, in exchange for being the first to get the undoubtedly terrifying result. ~Vayne: Vayne originally believed Wraith to be a creature of the dark arts after his actions during his opening moves; and tried to kill him because of it. When she decided to strike, she was surprised to find him fighting a Void-spawn. And even more so when he thrust a child into her arms and told her to get it out of there before throwing himself back at the creature. Though their ways may be different, they fight the same kind of foe. I am writing a short story, not Harrowing, for this, the potential was too tempting, may or may not post it. Depends on demand

= Rivals: ~The various mad scientists of Zaun: Wraiths figurative and literal decapitation of Zaunite crime and trafficking has left them all strapped for supplies and test subjects. ~Khazix: Wraith is the reason why Kha’Zix came to Runeterra in his weakened state, and Kha’Zix has been dying to return the favor. ~Rengar: Only one can take the head of Kha’Zix. Naturally, the two of them see each other as in each other’s way. ~Caitlyn: Ever cautious of the going-ons of Zaun, Caitlyn can’t help but wonder how long it will take for Wraith to come to Piltover. The last thing she needs is yet another psychopath running around her town. Vi and Jinx cause enough damage as it is. ~Janna: The 2 of them were once allies, fighting to bring order to Zaun. The relationship was rocky to say the least, but when Wraith left the remains of several of Zaun’s prominent crime lords hanging on display in front of a bought-out senator’s house, she turned against his idea of “order.” She has since become an outspoken voice against him in the League, and has tried to have his status revoked several times.

+Synergy: I can see Wraith working well with most champions in general, but see him working better with champs that can go ‘all in’ with him, or capitalize when he does. Primarily- Orianna: Jump-Ball delivery system. Alistar: Nothing says all-in like an Alistar. Plus chaining a knock-up/stun with a fear. Maokai: Can go in with you and provide damage reduction while the 2 of you wreak everything.

+Counters: Wraith is not the tankiest of junglers. His late-game strengths are going to dwell on the ability to launch into the backline during the initiation by using the fog of war mixed with his ult. Which, if they ward well, will be very difficult. Pretty solid counters would have to be- Nocturne: His ult straight up outranges yours, and can counter it if timed right. Sona: Can lock you down and reduce your damage to her fellow squishies. LeeSin: Can grant vision of you and counter-initiate by kicking you back out of the fight.

+Skins: -Fallen Wraith(790)- Wraith's armor looks like it's in a state of disrepair and his arms are a discolored red-brown. His skull is no longer silvery, but is now rusty and one of his eyes is cracked and flickers.

-BatWraith(975)- Wraith is now solid black with a yellow bat on his chest, and pointed ears rising off of his helmet. He has a cape instead of a jet-pack, and has the infamous Where are they? voice.

Special Category: There are 2, one serious, one light-hearted. Judges read whichever you feel like. +A Harrowing, Harrowing Wraith stood in front of an estate somewhere in the aristocratic section of Demacia. It was only 4 in the afternoon, but the seasonal decorum made it feel much later. He had already been stopped several times by kids innocently asking if he was a monster, while their chaperones looked almost ready to faint. To be fair, his armored figure had become the symbol of fear in Zaun recently. The mansion was overly ornate, but most were in this section of the city anyway. The fact that it was the Harrowing didn’t help either with all of cutesy decorative bats and whatnot. Wraith forwent the knockers and pounded his fist into the door with resounding booms, wincing as he accidently chipped the wood.

An older gentleman, that Wraith assumed was a butler, opened the door. “Hello, do you have an appointment?” he asked in a voice like finely aged whiskey.

“I received a letter with this address written on it,” Wraith replied “It said that the person living here would be able to help me.”

“Ah, you must be the Wraith fellow I’ve heard so much about.” The old butler said with a smile as he opened the door to let Wrath in, “Do come in, Mistress is waiting for you.”

“‘Mistress?’” Wraith asked as he stepped inside. The inside is just as bad as the outside, he thought, marble floors, a grand staircase, and…is that a chandelier made of gold? No way, it couldn’t be…could it?

“Hello again, Wraith,” a stern, but refined, voice said from the top of the stairs, “You’re dismissed, Charles.”

“As you wish, ma’am.” The butler said and left the room.

“Vayne.” Wraith said, “Didn’t picture you for the opulent type.”

Vayne was wearing a solid black bodysuit with a thin silver coat thrown over it, she had her, remarkably, ever-present ponytail and high heels. “I’m not, but appearances, you know?” Vayne replied, “Do you ever take that armor off, or did you travel all the way here in it?”

“No. I don’t.” Wraith stated, “And yes. I did. Now, what have you called me all the way across Valoran for?”

“What no pleasantries?”

Wraith let the silence speak for him as he tilted his head so his helmet seemed to glower at her.

“Fine, fine,” Vayne said and beckoned him to come and follow her, “We’ll talk in my office.”

A few minutes later, beneath Vayne Manor…

“Wow,” Wraith said in disbelief, “You really do have a Bat Cave.” There were several instruments and tables on the platform. One was a forge for crafting silver arrows. Another was a rack with several large crossbows on it, ranging from standard to mean looking, to…is…is that a heart with wings on it?

“Coming from the man living in a literal hole in the ground.” Vayne said, taking a seat behind a map table covered in tacks and notes.

“Fair enough. Now why am I here?” Wraith asked as he walked over and stood in front of the desk. Even from a distance he towered over her.

“As you are probably aware, tomorrow night the Harrowing reaches its peak. That night, while festive for normal people, is the pinnacle of rites to those enthralled by black magic.”

“And…”

“I believe that a coven is going to be meeting tomorrow night to do something, and I…would like you help dealing with them.” Vayne stated.

“And in return…” Wraith placed his hands on the table and leaned over it.

“I pull some influential strings and help you get some of the big fish that your after.” Vayne replied.

“Deal,” Wraith said after a moment of thought, “But I reserve the right to fight first and ask questions later.”

“No arguments from me on that.” Vayne smiled

23:45 the next night, Marshes of Kaladown (Side note- On the map of Valoran, the Marshes are between Demacia and the Institute.) Vayne, walked slowly through the mud, careful to make as little noise as possible. Why did I wear heels again? She thought.

A cloud moved in front of the moon, plunging the swamp into darkness. “You make a lot of noise in heels,” a voice said to her left. She turned and was greeted by the towering figure and glowing red eyes of Wraith hiding in the tall grass. How does someone that big move that quietly? It’s just unnatural, she thought.

“The meeting here was a decoy, the real one is happening 5 miles to the south from here deeper in the swamp.” Wraith continued, stepping out of the grass, but staying in the shadows, “They intend to gain the favor of some kind of creature roughly 15 minutes from now, at midnight. Human offering highly likely.”

“And how do you know that?” Vayne asked.

“You have your sources,” he tossed something melon-sized back into the grass. It landed with a thud, “I have mine.”

The cloud moved, and Vayne saw that Wraith’s arms and head had a wet, red sheen to them.

“We need to think of something,” Vayne said, “We’ll never make it time.”

“Correction,” Wraith interrupted, “You’ll never make it in time. Between running and periodical use of my jump pack, I am more than capable of making it there in time to interrupt what they are doing.”

“Well good for you, but what about… Don’t even think about it. No. No!”

Before she could react, Wraith grabbed her in a vice-like grip around her waist, and launched into the air as Vayne’s shriek was drowned out by the scream of his thrusters firing.

23:59:50 Deep Marshes

Wraith came down screeching into a gathered group of robed people chanting around a unnaturally red bonfire. He landed light enough to not harm his passenger, but with enough force to shatter the spine of the witch he landed on. He released Vayne and she tumbled away coming up in a protective stance over an unfortunate college student who was bound near the fire.

“You are too late!” one of the witches cackled as the bonfire abruptly went out. Vayne was about to ask what she meant, but a cloud passed over the moon again. A bloodcurdling howl split the air around them as total darkness took hold of the night.

“Shadow beast!” Vayne exclaimed, pulling down some kind of Hextech night vision goggles over her eyes.

“All of you stay put.” Wraith said to the gathered practitioners, “You run, I will find you. I will chase you down. And I will kill you, slowly, over the course of several hours.”

“How do you want to approach this?” Vayne asked.

“Prey sight.” Wraith hissed, and his vision turned the filtered red of thermal. “Cover the kid, Vayne, it’ll be coming for her.”

He saw it. The creature's cold, blue outline was in the form of a wolf, but the size of an ox with horns just as big. It made eye contact with Wraith and froze, returning the glare from a hundred feet away. Then it charged, barreling straight towards the duo at a breakneck speed. Vayne readied her larger crossbow as Wraith sheathed his claws and drew his previously unused side arm. In a fluid motion, they both fired at the same time. Wraith’s shot hit first, the .75 cal. round struck the creature right between the eyes before detonating and taking most of the creature’s head off. A massive crossbow bolt slammed into the creature’s side a split second later, and pinned its body to the ground. Wraith heard a cry of denial from behind him and felt a spell slam into his back, causing him to stagger slightly in surprise. He holstered his side arm and turned to face the witches as he unsheathed his claws, coming to his full, post-human height. “You should all be running.” He stated, as his claws sparked to life in a flash of white, burning off the dried red that had been one of the witches’ colleagues not 15 minutes earlier.

Several hours later

Dawn has risen as Wraith and Vayne walk out of the swamp towards Vayne’s carriage. Vayne is holding the unconscious student bridal style, as she and Wraith talked.

“So why don’t you use your side arm on the Fields of Justice?” Vayne asked, “Your master does.”

“I only use my side arm on targets I don’t deem worth using my claws on. You sure you don’t want me to carry her?”

“Wraith, look at yourself.” Vayne said, “You’re up to your elbows in blood that isn’t yours, viscera up to your knees, your helmet currently matches your eyes for color, and you’re not exactly a face someone would want to wake up to. What about the witches? You really went all out back there.”

“...That was something different... If you make an exemption, even once, people will think you are slipping. Then it’ll only be a matter of time before you actually do.” Wraith said, letting the conversation drop, “But hey, if you want to hold the kid, that’s fine by me. At least I’m not the one trudging through a swamp in high heels.”

“…”

By the time they reached Vayne’s carriage, Wraith had ended up carrying both of them for the last 2 miles anyway.

-Story number 2: This one is shorter and more light-hearted, but has some of the huehuehue promised in Ferrum’s comments. How much? Let’s just say it goes all of the hue. Oh the huemanatee!

It was about sunset when Wraith reported to the newly constructed bunker that acted as Ferrum’s headquarters at the Institute of War. Not even the Ironclad were spared from the spirit of the season known as Harrowing, as there was a decoration that looked like a witch on a broomstick had flown into the bunker hanging above the door. It was probably Acaustus’ or Vindi’s doing. All of the commanders had to submit a monthly report due by the end of it on their operations; Wraith just accidentally forgot until the night of to turn it in. He approached the door and was surprised when it didn’t open automatically as it read his I.F.F. tag. Wraith waited several seconds before banging once on the door. After 5 seconds of silence, there was a hiss of seals and the door slid sideways into the wall. Ferrum stood there, missing the chest piece of his armor, and holding an impatient hand out for Wraith’s report.

“How was your trip, Wraith?” Ferrum asked, taking Wraith’s report and thumbing through it. “It’s a long way from Zaun.”

“I kept getting stopped and asked if I was a monster.” Wraith replied.

“Hah,” Ferrum laughed, “Everything seems to be in order, you’re dismissed Wraith, go have some fun tonight. Vindi and Acaustus went to go see some band, Penta-something or another, and Vol said he had some kind of sparring match to go to.”

“Good night, sir.” Wraith replied.

“Good night, Wraith.” Ferrum said.

As the door closed again, Ferrum said something like “Now, where…” and Wraith could have sworn he saw someone else in the room. Wraith shrugged it off and turned to leave when he noticed several feathers on the ground. A couple were white as fresh snow, while the others were black as sin. “Huh,” Wraith said to himself as he walked away, “Odd.”
