Names, whats available and if and when it will be
When I choose a name for myself in a game its really important to me. I want it to reflect what I do in the game or just me as a player some how. Sometimes but not usually my name will be maybe comedic, maybe it will be dedicated to a character in the game I like a lot, maybe it'll just be one of my go to names. Whatever it is, I just want to be happy using that name while playing the game. In almost all the games I've played, names haven't been a problem for me. Except in league. Its become a problem for me in league because I'm the type of person that would see something cool or interesting, and want at least someone to have it, not just me. The problem with that is, when I see something that no one has, but could be easily attainable I get very easily annoyed. Just keep in mind as you're reading this that that some people take their names very seriously and some do not care at all. Most of the time you can tell that from champion select. (From my experience in Plat+ the names have become more like a real "cool" name or something, or just something you can actually call someone. When I was gold and lower they were just mostly memey, like "feel my baloney" or something like that.)
So I have some of the "(name any champion here) bot" on my friends list. I find those names interesting. I added someone named Darius Bot. Hes a cool guy. I asked if I could give him anything for that name, since I love Darius and have been playing him for over 4 years. He politely said the name was not on sale. I thought oh well I wonder what lucky boy or girl got the name "Darius". This was about a year ago. I search up the name Darius and it was taken by a level 6. After that I read up on the inactivity and claiming names again (http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/features/summoner-name-clean) and after that I got on almost everyday to see if the name "Darius" ever became available or if someone else took it. After a long time it never became available and no one took it. At this point I thought that this was good, maybe I could write a ticket to riot and a super duper rare name was mine! Unfortunately not. I had several live chats and most of them ended with just the person telling me that 6 months after inactivity the name should be up. But just now I had another live chat with a rioter and he/she told me that the name "Darius" was taken before players were allowed to take champion names and therefore would never be available or deemed inactive. If you look at other champion names (Ex. Teemo) they're also level 6.
I personally think that that is a huge waste. Players should be able to use these names, why not? Imagine how cool it would be to have one of these names or to be playing against Darius, Orianna, and more. I'm not sure if this is the case for all champion names but I know it is for most. (Just search it up and if its level 6 then it is, if its level 30 but has no stats then IDK). Theres no reason not to release these names to the players. I for one would love the name "Darius". It would give me x10 more satisfaction from playing him and doing good.
Why are these names not allowed to be used? Can Riot release these names?
