[Doodle Champion Concept] Ivan Harkins, The Captain of the Black Mist

Preface (and Basic Lore): For this champion, I was inspired by Gangplank and MF's upcoming updates as well as wanting to create a character that has some influence and impact towards Bilgewater. Since Gangplank rules the salty seas it makes me wonder, are there any other pirates? It could be explained that the lack of any mentioned pirates is due to the numerous deaths that occur in bilgewater due to the Black mist that occurs every Harrowing. Bilgewater is in it's range and it seems this year will show a great impact the mist will have when it consumes the town. Why target Bilgewater, is the mist just consuming all in it's path or is it specifically targeting it?

Ivan Harkins can be relatable as a Black Beard level, legendary pirate that fell in the heat of battle along with his beloved ship allowing Gangplank to take his place on top. After his soul was sent to the shadow isles, he was chosen and was well suited to create the curse of the black mist as he knows the seas like the back of his hand. Now he controls the Harrowing mist as he sails it like the great ship he used to have finding land ho and plundering all souls in his way. If one were to stare at the mist long enough, you can make out the shape of the great ship Caligo and a dark silhouette standing above the mist, it's sword pointing at you.

During the years of Harrowing, he has taken the invading undead on his ship (the whole mist) to reap the living

Role: He plays as a Top lane tank or a counter jungler and his kit revolves around controlling the mist and decreasing the vision, blinding and raising the fear in enemies.

Quotes: Champion Select: "The sea be no place for the living, only for the dead"

(He's meant to sound like an old fashioned pirate)

Joke: The Animation is Ivan thrusting his sword forwards but it falls through his hand as his arm disintegrates into mist. he then shakes it rapidly to reform arm

Taunt: Animation is Ivan raising his hand as the mist swirls around it with a gasping soul coming out of the hand

Uses HP and Mana

Attributes: Primary: Tank; Secondary: Fighter

Stats: I'm not a supreme numbers man so I avoid applying numbers to damage, ranges and stats. You can decide them if you guys want to.

Abilities:

Passive Ability: Darkened Skies

  • Auto Attacks decrease vision range per hit(about 200 each time)
  • At 3rd Attack, removes all vision the enemy gains from nearby wards and minions until enemy leaves battle.
  • For every champion (enemy and teammate) with their visioned impaired, Ivan gains amounts of crit chance (fight Critplank with Critkins). This means the Nocturne ults or Graves smokscreen can boost Ivan's crit.

Active abilities

Q - Mutiny

  • Empowers next autoattacks on his cutlass with more damage and fear
  • This skill can hit your skeleton crew (hence mutiny and explained below) and removes a crowd control effect placed on you

W - Skeleton Crew

  • A crew mate made of the undead and part mist summoned
  • attacks in a small range and move very slowly towards enemy champions
  • their attacks apply Ivan's passive
  • max 2 summon - and stack
  • killing a crewmate or making a 3rd on the field causes the first crew mate to detonate into mist and create a small AoE fear (fear is longer than the Q fear)
  • Using Mutiny on the crew mate removes your CC and auto detonates that crew mate

E - One with the Black Mist

  • Increase unit size and become a blob of Mist
  • avoid all champ and unit collisions and any enemy you pass through is blinded
  • movement speed increases facing towards enemies
  • still have your hp bar though (still prone to damage) and the form doesn't last that long (like Vlad's blood pool)

R - The Great Ship Caligo

  • The great ship returns the ocean's graveyard becoming the physical form of the black Mist

  • requires 2 steps - pressing R twice at any 2 locations within a given range

  • the ship will be summoned and move from the point A casted to Point B casted (so it can go through walls)

  • passing through enemies deals damage and it decreases their vision to the lowest possible until after it passes through the champ.

  • Now for the special thingies

  • If Ivan uses his E and touches the travelling boat, he joins the boat becoming untargetable but must follow the ship all the way to the end.

  • The Ship's model changes to add Ivan standing on it as a foggy silhouette of himself standing on the helm raising his sword forward in the direction of ship's path

  • its kinda slow but it moves faster once it collects the souls of the dead - another special thingy

  • hence it moves faster towards it's end point and becomes greater in unit size if it passes through a skeleton crew mate. crew mates detonate with AoE fear when touched by the ship before the ship gets faster and bigger. The ship model then changes to have a crewmate cheer holding his sword up on the ship (so model changes to show max 2 + Ivan standing on it) -or if it deals the deathblow to an enemy champ, does all the same effects to the ship

-also has 1 second channel time before the ship sails (for counterplay as mentioned by TheFirstGokun)

Skins Special Forces Harkins - because I think this will be the bilgewater pirate special skinset (shurima has galactic, Demacia Commando,etc.), MF has the Special Forces skin teased for her.

A really cool concept that attempts to make the most out of vision games. However, that passive does not reduce the range of his target's teammates' vision, and due to shared vision it seems this passive would be useless in lane (since the passive must be applied to every minion). For it to do anything in a teamfight, it would have to hit every other champion on the enemy team, several times, and even then it wouldn't do much until fully stacked. With this in mind, this champion makes the most sense to me in a 1v1 skirmish in the jungle. There no one else will screw with his vision games, and it's utterly terrifying to have your vision reduced in the already low visibility jungle. Not only that, but his skeletons would help him clear and his cc would aid his counterjungling. I see Ivan as a high potential counterjungler. A few changes that should be made: His passive is useless if the enemy puts down a ward or has a pet, so hitting a target should eliminate any vision they get from wards or minions. This makes him a scarier top laner, as his opponent would always live in fear of ganks, and encourages communication between the enemy team (warning their ally when to back off, since they can still see the ganker). Cooperative gameplay all around! Mutiny as a team-killing skill is, well, kind of toxic. However, guess who is totally free for the picking; that's right, Q should be allowed to manually kill crew members in order to clear cc (haha, suck it Morg). Why? Because it's interesting gameplay, because the skeleton fear should be longer than the Q fear, and because it's not as toxic as denying farm to your laner or hurting a teammate. I'm not too sure how to feel about an on hit fear, except that it should be very short. The ultimate is very interesting as utility, making it a cool escape or initiation tool. One thing might be to add a 1 second channel time (to enable counterplay) or remove the fear effect granted by Ivan jumping aboard. Because he's a tank there's really no question of whether he wants to ride into battle (hint: pirates always want to ride into battle), and an enormous aoe fear is pretty toxic. Not only that, but it removes the gameplay behind setting up crew members in the ship's path to manually detonate them, applying a fear anyway. And it's his third fear in his kit. THREE FEARS. That's a bit overkill. Overall, Ivan has a lot of skirmishing, counterjungling and ganking potential as a jungler. As long as he isn't a thematic or design copy of Gangplank (perhaps if he was a skinnier, surly pirate captain in contrast to Gangplank's robust enthusiasm), he could one day be an awesome champion. I'd actually really like to play this guy, since his synergies seem pretty well thought out and fun. Keep working on improving this concept :) Reviewer, away!summoner 4
