[new champion select] pick with your team.
So I have been trolling through the boards but can't seem to find any mention of what I think is an obvious addition to improve champ select upon its re-release. Being able to officially choose a champion for a team member.
Have you ever been stuck first pick when you didn't want it! I do, ALL THE TIME. Admittedly my newborn son keeps me off the game lately, but I still keep abreast of changes and news and play occasionally. but I digress and will get to the point. My main is tank Trundle in the jungle and simply put... Vayne wrecks my face with a rusty fork.
Avoidance of this problem is a simple process really... don't pick first and if they pick Vayne, don't pick Trundle. It is absolutely astounding how difficult this can be due to there being no active mechanic to assist in a pick trade.
Four different variations seem viable to me to incorporate into the new champion select interface.
Option 1 - straight swap Step 1. Swap positions in the list like swapping champions in aram. Step 2. Wait you mean its that easy?! Note: should be able to be done at any time (including ban phase for player in first slot) as long as you have not picked and if you have a ban you take it with you. easy peasy, might need some restrictions based on pick timer. would work well if everyone got pick intent first?
Option 2 - your pick Step 1. Select the Summoner who will take your pick slot. Step 2. Allied summoner gets a yes or no choice to take their pick now. Step 3. Allied summoner picks their champion and you trade places with them in the pick order.
Option 3 - pick trade Step 1. Select the Summoner for pick trade. Step 2. Allied summoner gets a yes or no choice to allow the pick trade. Step 3. Allied summoner picks champion and it is locked into your slot. Step 4. When allied summoner pick comes up you choose and lock your champion in their slot. Step 5. Champions are automatically traded at the start of the trade phase. Note: there is no need to be able to cancel this one as the risk of trolling is minimal, you get to pick your own champion after all.
Option 4 - pick for (my least favourite with the most chance for screwups but the most flexible) Step 1. Select Summoner you are picking for. Step 2. Said summoner gets a yes or no choice to allow you to pick for them. Step 3. Your visible pool changes to that summoners available champions. Step 4. Pick champion. Step 5. Said summoner gets a yes or no choice to lock in your selected champion. Step 6. When allied summoner pick comes up their visible champion pool changes to yours. Step 7. Allied summoner picks champion. Step 8. You get a yes or no choice to lock in the champion they selected. Note: Either summoner can cancel within 10 seconds of step 2 and greater that 10 seconds on the pick timer. At the end step 5 summoners could swap places in the pick order so you could pick for yourself... might make things easier, get rid of steps 6 7 and 8... and allow one person to do the process more than once.
