Hextech Workshop Idea

The format will be an expanded version of the suggestion thread that riot posted a while ago.

Feature/Suggestion Name: Hextech Workshop

Opportunity/Problem Statement: This can be a new opportunity and can fix a problem. The main problem is champions that don't get any skins for a long time have a higher chance of getting a skin with this system, and the opportunity for the community to put something in the game.

Brief Description: Hextech Workshop would work a lot like Steam's Workshop. Allowing the community to make skins, champions, ward skins and icons, the community would vote on which one the like by a downvote and upvote system. After a skin gets popular riot can look at it and decide to put it in to the game with minor changes, splitting the gain so players can get money out of this system as well.

Target Audience: Creative people that can make new skins, and everyone can benefit from this addition.

Good idea

Considering the sheer amount of highly creative and simply outrageously awesome fan made skins I've seen, I really hope Riot takes time to thoroughly contemplate an idea like this instead of immediately dismissing it entirely.

This is a pretty cool opportunity to further develop the community's bond with Riot and maybe reduce some of the stress on the skins team considering they have almost 150 champions to make skins for.

Rito pls!

We’ve needed this for a long time, and I reckon this idea has been thrown around internally. Not sure why they haven’t even mentioned such an idea.

Kudos to you for showing what needs to be done

I thought that you wanted to add Honors as a currency to buy skins and stuff. Damn.

Riot being like "Splitting profit? OH HELL NAH"

I dont see this happening... for probably a decent reason.

Steam Workshop is for games which are 1 time purpose, will have few if any updates, and is only there to extend the life of a game. Whether with mods, gamemodes, skins, whatever.

This doesnt work for league though, because Riot makes money by continually updating the game, adding skins themselves. Why buy a skin when I could download one for free? It would work with a model if you still buy them with RP, but that could potentially lead to legal issues if im not wrong. It WOULD however do as you said, add skins for champions who need them, and also kill the custom skin websites that make money off of custom skins.

But it just simply wont happen most likely. Excellent photoshop and idea though.

This idea is the best thing I’ve ever seen on boards.

Cool idea! I've seen the Sea Witch Nami skin before, and it'd be nice to have players contribute to things, so that it's not "Riot never listens to us"

I would buy Nami just for that Sea Witch skin.

Brilliant!

These are the kind of high quality posts that should be on top of the "Hot" page with 300+ upvotes. However, knowing the League community, i know Hextech Workshop will face the following problems;

  1. Almost always the top desired skins will be for Ahri.

  2. Riot will need to hire a dedicated team to keep the more mature content out.

  3. Skins for new/reworked champions will overshadow other ideas for months. For example, if this system already exists, Dragon Master Swain and Kady Kayn will occupy the "top voted" page. Meaning Riot will be forced to immediately make another skin right after reworking 3 old ones in Swain's case.

  4. Star Guardian Urgot. I never liked or cared for this stupid joke, and if this Hextech Workshop comes to life, this meme will sadly never die.

You mean something similar to Warframe's Tennogen?

http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/TennoGen

Essentially, players of the game who have skills create entire models, skins, weapons skins, and other cosmetic items, and submit them to the TennoGen page, and then other players can vote on what they like, and if they hit a certain mark, then they'll be implemented into the game itself. As an added bonus, the creators of each piece get a portion of all the sales they make on that particular item.

Granted, Warframe's premium currency is Platinum, a trade-able resource that has actually grown into a viable market within the game that you can use to spend for cosmetic items, in game boosts, weapons, equipment, or to speed up things you're crafting in the foundry. As RP isn't trade-able in League, I doubt the creators would get much, if any, portion of profits on these items, but definitely something to consider. This could be a way to get community creations, things WE WANT, into the game without Riot having to spend money and energy into them.

So from what I see is a concept similar to how Warframe works on Steam with its workshop feature.

I like it.
