Leon, Son of the Renaissance
Description: This is sort of a follow up to the previous thread I made yesterday. This particular concept focuses on a tank champion. But this champion not just any tank we've seen in the game. This is a champion who uses an actual tank. Particularly ones based on the tanks used during world war 1 or 2. I'll need your guy's help in deciding which design is most appropriate to the current setting of League of Legends. So let's get started on this. . .
General Stats: Class - Tank
Utility - 1/3 Attack - 2/3 Mobility - 2/3 Control - 1/3 Toughness - 3/3
Secondary Bar - Mana Secondary Attribute - Melee Style - 20% Physical, 80% Magic
Difficulty - 2/3
Abilities: Passive - Tracked Vehicle Leon's tank has treads that enable him to move over certain terrainsuch as hills or cliff edges and also enables him to move freely over minions and smaller summons, dealing physical damage to smaller enemy summons and minions. He will also instantly kill and enemy champions with 10% or less health remaining simply by running them over.
First Ability - Offroad Tactics When activated, Leon gains (5% at level 1, 25% at level 5) bonus movement speed for 5 seconds and moving over certain terrain will only reduce his movement speed back to normal movement speed.
Second Ability - Reactive Armor When activated, Leon gains bonus armor and magic defense for 5 seconds. In addition, enemies he drives into will be stunned for 1 second at the cost of causing Leon to stagger and interrupt other abilities. He will deal more damage the faster he is moving.
Third Ability - Ballistic Loading Leon fires three bullets in a direction in front of him, dealing physical damage to enemies who are hit. The hit target will take more damage from each bullet. (This may stack, especially in Rapid Fire)
Ultimate - Anti-Tank Warfare Leon stations himself to aim his main cannon. He will then fire the shell at a certain direction towards the small area, dealing magic damage to anyone within the small area the shell lands. He will deal more damage if the shell hits an enemy champion standing in the way of its range but the same amount of damage to enemies near the impact point. Enemy champions who are close to Leon who are also hit by the shell will prevent the shell from exploding but will take true damage instead. Enemy Tank Champions will also take (5%/10%/15%/20%/25% AP) bonus magic damage from this attack.
Lore: In the early days of Piltover, many artists and inventors were coming up ways to improve the lives of those who continue to live in the medieval era of technology. This includes improvement in housing, better roads, newer forms of transportation, and the development of new goods. But what stood out the most in this period was the development of new military technology. Weapons that can surpass even the use of old cannons and trebuchets. Weapons that can render medieval combat to be completely useless. These include the development of handheld cannons, guns that fire consecutive bullets, etc.
Among these famous designs was the mobile armor, designed by a famous inventor of Piltover, the Renaissance named Leonardo who had also been accused of witchcraft by other cities, particularly Demacia. The concept of his design was simple. It's basically an armored carriage that had a cannon placed inside of it. This design had potential but unfortunately, at the time, the design would only intimidate the enemy rather than serve as a prominent weapon for a military. This especially since the oversized vehicle was not capable of moving over rugged terrain.
It wasn't until in the modern period of Piltover that this design had finally been realized. The inventor's decendent began building from his designs but utilizing the growing development of Hextechnology.
They were once a family who moved from Piltover to Demacia due to active crime groups making it too dangerous to live. The man and his wife wanted their children to live a happier and more peaceful childhood. They thought of Demacia as a paradise that can provide such because of how well protected they are around the walls. Crimes are nearly non-existent here compared to other places. It had plenty of resources and the people there were welcoming enough towards new visitors. The couple's children were gifted with dedication and pride. The warrior's spirit that makes them fit enough to train from a young age to join among the ranks of Demacia's military. However, one of their children would rather stay inside and read books instead which was fine to the couple. It's good for one to strengthen their intellect to have a sense of competence in this world. Their children were proving themselves to have the potential to best the greatest warriors of the Demacian Army. In fact, one of them manages to best the warriors despite his young age. This made Demacian generals very proud of this particular child, seeing him as the symbol of everything that the new age of Demacian warriors stand for. However, this also lead to the teachings behind the strict laws and practices of being a citizen. Certain practices that causes complicated relationships between the boy and his father. Because his father has a particular passion for these books that he likes to read. He thinks his father is wasting his time with those books. Negligent of his eldest, he spends more time reading books to his youngest son. The eldest was quite jealous of his younger brother getting all the attention. But he continued his passion in pursuing knighthood. At least the father was not willing to stop him from pursuing this path.
Meanwhile, the father continues to read these certain books he's taken from his old home in Piltover. These books in particular were records of research and development focused on a particular concept that was first designed by his ancestor. The concept was simple. A vehicle is covered in plates of armor while using a powerful cannon. The original design wasn't efficient. However, the later designers were building from this concept, but most of their designs were flawed. It was difficult for this weapon's potential to be realized until today. This man had the desire to continue this work. He liked sharing it with his youngest son. He studied the past designs and find all the flaws he could fix. He attempted to experiment with these designs outside the city walls, but all of his experiments had failed. Every one he's built would fall apart as it tries to move upon surfaces other than flat plains or paved roads. It was much harder than he thought it would be. It became frustrating that he can't seem to come up with a design that would live up to its potential. But he continues to try and try again to study the flaws and what went wrong with his previous designs.
The man however, was being spied on by another resident of Demacia. This particular individual was a young woman who enjoyed watching the man at his work, curious at what he was designing. A young woman who hails from a family of the king's protectors, the Crownguards. After learning the goal of his experiments, she warned the man that it must be kept secret from Demacians, especially after the man was starting to make use of Hextechnology. Demacia has a particular hatred towards people who use magic. Hextechnology being no exception since it utilizes magic harnessed from crystals, hence the name, Hextech. Heeding her warning, the man did these experiments less often. Only doing it during the nightshifts every other day of the week whenever he's not working. To help relieve his stress, his wife and his youngest son would often comfort him. Be supportive of his work. And so he continued on with designing his weapon. Designing the future of mankind. Taking the world a large leap onto the world of Tomorrow. He eventually discovered a breakthrough. The answer to all of his design flaws. The creation that would finally make the weapon's potential be realized.
But it was until that fateful day that things began to fall apart. . .
His eldest son had fallen in love with the pride of Demacia. Everything it all stood for, and even becoming the very symbol for future generations. His practices has even influenced him to show hatred towards those who use any form of magic. And since his father was beginning to use hextechnology, after spending his childhood being neglected, hating him for those two reasons wasn't much of a problem. The eldest had eventually found out of his father's experiments and ratted him out to the higher ranks of Demacian officials. Even gave them proof of his experiments. And so his house was being raided. All of his hidden designs, all of his studies, even the sight where he conducted his experiments were being ripped apart and burned to the ground. Everything he worked so hard for.
And all because his eldest son and his jealousy.
He was imprisoned for conducting these experiments. Soon to be executed because of how destructive they could be with magic.
And he almost had a breakthrough. . .
But later, the eldest son had learned that it wasn't his father that made this new design. It was his youngest brother, Leon, who made that breakthrough. He tried to incriminate his younger brother, going as far as to wanting him to get executed by Demacian officials along with his mother. But upon returning home, his brother was not in his room. Some of his belongings had gone missing. A pile of papers and particular books were not present on their shelves. He went searching for his brother after they arrested his mother. But upon finding out what his brother was really up to, he was too late.
His brother was conducting experiments of his own in a small shack. After completing his prototype, he escapes inside his armored weapon. Demacian soldiers tried to halt his escape, but the unstoppable force of this giant metal monster was unimaginable. The way it moved was unlike anything they've ever seen before. It had treads made of steal, trampling over objects and even stone fences. It crushed every soldier that stood in its path. Its cannon blew holes into the outerwalls. Their raining arrows were useless against the plates of its impenetrable armor. It escapes the city and makes its way to Piltover. The cavalry pursued him but weren't able to keep up. The weapon had made its way into the dangerous parts of the world where no Demacian soldier could ever survive even on horsebacks. And so they gave in to the pursuit and returned home to discuss the failure of capturing this young criminal.
Leon was safely inside his tank. He was eventually able to make his way into Piltover where at the main gate, the people there caught sight of his weapon, surprised to find the boy driving it. After he had explained how the weapon worked, scientists hurriedly studied the weapon. Research and Development was making progress rapidly thanks to Leon conducting the experiment and discussing new ideas with other scientists and scholars. Even the revered inventor was among the scientists and scholars that took part in this project.
But while the scientsist and scholars were looking to research and develop for the sake of evolving this project, Leon had a personal vendetta with those responsible for his parents' deaths. More specifically, he wanted to exploit his own weapon towards vengeance against his brother.
He continued his research further on by coming up with a design that makes it easier for the driver to drive the vehicle and use its weapons at the same time. As a result, he designed a new tank, a heavily armored vehicle with a powerful cannon that's big enough for him to drive.
Along his quest for vengeance with this tank, he served in few major battles towards the defenses of Piltover's borders against Noxian invaders and other raiders. But he had also taken part in personal missions that involve sabotaging or destroying Demacian campsites by using his tank. A way for him to give a message to the Demacians and his brother. A way to mock at the soldiers for failing to catch this little boy.
One day he and his brother will meet face to face. Only, the face of Demacia's future will be met with a face made of armored plates and a large nose loaded with explosive lead. . .
"In the Old War, they cheered. In the New War, they will cry," - Leon
Appearance:
Leon is about ten years old. He drives a tank built specifically for his size. Since he's still a child, he should be a little above
's size.
Speaking of the tank design, I still need to decide whether I should base his design on the British Mark V Tank for a sense of Historical Accuracy or base it on the M4 Sherman Tank just to capture that popular design of tanks we see in military games. Either way, it must be fitting to the setting of Piltover.
The tank will be at a size appropriate for its ideal gameplay.
Skins:
- Special Forces Leon
- Pulsefire Leon
- Toy Soldier Leon
Note(s):
- I named this character Leon as a reference to Leonardo Da Vinci who, according to my research, was the one who came up with the design of the original tank.
- This character can be very difficult to balance due to the realistic nature of actual tanks. Particular how powerful their weapons and defenses are. With this particular kit, it is possible for Leon to go for a more offensive build, especially since his Anti-Tank capabilities make him very useful in team fights. It's also risky since he uses melee attacks.
This isn't as detailed as I would make it. But I'm glad I was able to make this as a follow up to a previous thread I made. I hope you guys like the concept and I also hope you guys have suggestions to improve on it. Perhaps a change in his kit. Ideal statistics. Even ideas to improve the concept of his lore. Whatever you guys have, I look forward to your comments.
Until then, next champion concept, we're looking into his brother, Uther. . . Hope you guys look forward to it once its finished.
