Abraham, the shadow support

Aegrescit medendo: the cure is worse than the disease. I thought him up from the Latin phrase above which inspired his Q spell and the rest kind of just fell into place in my mind. For me he gives the classic support feel while also not having as big of a problem that some supports have where if your carry dies, the support can be relatively useless.

For in game, He would be classified as an Enchanter and sometimes a Juggernaut. He'd be a melee support that relies on debuffing enemies and buffing allies. He wants his teammates to just go in and go ham while using his spells to curve the fight in their favor, but only if his teammates keep committing. If they happen to die, then he becomes the carry, that is if the enemy team hasn't already taken care of him. Most of the time he will do very little damage relying on allies to dish out the pain, but like a Juggernaut, in very specific scenarios he can deal some heavy damage.

Passive: Whenever a teammate dies near Abraham he is so overtaken with grief and guilt that his Shadow magic consumes him, transforming him into a shadow beast until he dies or exits combat. Transformation cleanses all CC active on him at the time of transformation. He loses access to all four spells (although spells activated prior to transformation will still be in effect) and has largely increased stats scaling off of skill points put into ultimate. Also for every additional ally that dies nearby after he has already transformed, he enrages and gets a very short burst of movement speed and attack speed. Explanation: Basically this passive is a Sion passive with some Jinx passive mixed in that only activates when allies die. With this passive it kind of creates the Soraka syndrome where you have to kill the soraka first in a team fight to make it easier; if you disrespect or ignore him just because he isn't dealing out loads of damage or CC, you will regret it.

Q: Abraham attempts to heal the enemy champion but it doesn't quite work out. A targeted spell that applies a mark to the enemy champion target. After a delay the mark activates and deals a small flat amount of damage plus however much health the target has healed/regained from any source since the mark was applied. Explanation: This spell would start at doing a flat like 3% of max health and have the mark be applied for about 1 second and at max rank scale up to like 5% max health and have the mark stay for 3 seconds. I recognize that it hard counters healers, a.k.a. soraka, but it still offers some meaningful decision making while playing against and overall could add a neat aspect that the game currently doesn't have.

W: Abraham throws out shadow magic in a targeted area in from of him that lightly damages and coats all enemies hit for a short duration. Allies are shielded for a portion of the damage they deal to targets that were hit with this spell. Cap of shield amount from minions and non-epic monsters. Abraham gets shielded for a smaller portion than allies do based on the damage he does. Explanation: Think Yorick's Morning Mist attack (his E). Basically the same spell with a different area shape and different effect. He still gets the shield with the damage he does but at a smaller portion than allies to allow him to solo lane if someone really wants to take him there but not be super oppressive in said solo lane. Ranking up would decrease cooldown and increase percentage of damage done turned into a shield.

E: Abraham creates a tether on a target enemy champion doing small DOT while tethered, stealing movement speed from them and giving the stolen movement speed to a targeted ally. The longer the target remains tethered the longer the duration the ally has of the movement speed buff. If the spell is not reactivated to target an ally, Abraham gets half of the movement speed buff himself. Explanation: It's a double cast spell, the first cast creates the tether to the enemy champion instantly slowing them and giving Abraham a percentage of the stolen speed. The second cast creates a second tether to an ally champion transferring the stolen movement speed to them. Again, he gets a smaller portion than allies do so he isn't super oppressive in a solo lane if picked there. Ranking up would decrease cooldown and increase the speed stolen (which subsequently increases speed given to Abraham or allies.)

R: Abraham transfers his shadow magic to targeted ally champion for a short duration cleansing them of CC at time of activation and giving them increased stats just like his passive, except they can use spells during duration. Abraham can self cast this spell on himself to immediately activate his passive but only for the same duration that an ally would get the buff if spell was used on them. Also, self casting additionally will put his passive on cooldown for a short duration (like 20 seconds or something maybe). Skill points put into the ultimate also rank up stat increase while in passive form. Explanation: Basically on ally cast it is just an Anna ult from the game Overwatch. Ranking up decreases cooldown, increase duration, and increases stat increase for passive and Ult. By putting his passive on cooldown with self casts it gives him the choice to either have a short duration without being gated by an ally dying or have a potential longer duration if an ally is picked off, basically again to stop him from being oppressive in a solo lane. Items

In my opinion these would be his main items if he plays his intended role as support and then build tanky dependent on situation. -Talisman of Ascension -Righteous Glory -Mikael's Crucible

Other Champions Good allies: Kled, Karthus, and Sivir. Kled and Sivir are all about just going into the fight and Karthus tends to not care as much if he dies in a fight. Good counterpicks: anyone with multiple hard CC and not a big focus on heals. Leona, Nautilus, Blitz. etc...

Thanks for reading :)

I love this! Seems like an amazing idea, I'd love to see/play him! And another male support, which is also great!

I just really want

  1. an ability like the Q where it does more damage, the more the champ heals.
  2. a true juggernaut support
FlameHalbrdOkido2 votes

of all the stats the ult increases its not ok if AD/AP gets increased b/c thats op

i think this is a decent concept but it needs work. I feel like it doesnt stick to the shadow theme very closely

I agree, with a theme like shadow/darkness it would be hard for someone to picture a support, however it would be easy to think of a assassin (i.e. Zed) and another thing about shadow is the restriction of vision (because darkness) and I feel he should have some of ability in that area.

The Other Keller1 votes

like i just replied to the other guy, I'm not set on the darkness/shadow/dark magic theme, its just the only thing i could think of that could give rise to these powers that the said champ could have. Do you have any ideas?

on the flip side, i think another champ who uses shadow/darkness would be really cool especially someone who is so opposite of the current shadow user, Zed.

I agree exept i know it can be done in a tanky support style, in fact u can manipulate the shadows to fit any kit you want

1.) Passive - Shadow Beast: Every time Abraham manipulates shadows it take a toll on his mind, weakening his limitations. Casting abilities grant stacks lasting 5 sec. Every time Abraham is Unseen or Brush for 3 sec he gains a stack. At 5 stacks Abraham is overcome transforming into a shadow beast gaining a burst of MS and AS for 6 sec before going on CD. Transformation cleanses all CC and Silences Abraham. Every time a tethered unit dies Abraham instantly gains max stacks or the effect refreshes and gains x/x/x% of their max HP, AD, and AP for the duration and grows in size and half the duration is refreshed.

2.) Shadow Puppet Passive - My Shadows and Me: Champs effected by Abraham's abilities have their shadows stolen, tethering them to him within 1300 units for 12 sec (12 sec enemy unit CD). Tethered enemies; have x/x/x/x/x% of their HP regen and Heals stolen and are inflicted x/x/x/x/x% of damage dealt to Abraham, for Allies its the reverse. Active - Abraham manipulates his shadow quickly extending out in the target direction damaging and passing through units. Hitting an enemy champ will Entangle and force them to make the same moments that Abraham makes for the next 2.5 sec. Notes: Entangle means: Rooted and Disarmed

"A Shadow Follows its OWNER!!" "All shadows belong to ME"

2.) Gathering Shadows Passive - Shadow Essence: Abraham generates a 400 unit radius HoT AoE around him for HP regen and Heals stolen. Abraham creates a shadow shield for himself and the nearest ally. The more enemy and allies and allies within 1300 unit the stronger the shield will be. Being recently unseen, in brush, or having tethered units within range doubles the bonus shield amount from each source.

"In the darkness our power grows" "The more shadows there are the STRONGER I become"

3.) Shadow Realm (Shadow Veil?) Abraham transfers a unit to the shadow realm shadow after a short duration. Self/Allied Cast: Unit becomes a Ghosted Untargetableshadow for 2 sec. Abraham creates a shadow copy of the target with the same stats that attacks the last unit he does for 5 sec. Shadow copy will appear to be the actual champion to the enemy team. Enemy cast: Pacifies and slows target for 2 sec. Note: Pacify means: Silence and Disarm

"In the shadow realm all power belongs to me" "Lend my your power and ill grant u save haven" "Protection comes at a price"

4.) Growing Darkness Abraham creates a 400 unit radius AoE lasting 4 sec slowing enemies by 10%. Every time an enemy is effected by Abraham or damaged by a tethered Ally, the duration refreshes and doubles and the radius increases by 100. The longer an enemy is within the AoE the more their Sight Radius decreases and slow increases up to 50%. Within this AoE he gains bonus CDR and AS and all unseen enemies are revealed.

"The shadows are my domain!"

5.) Shadow Transfer Abraham melds into shadow and leaps into the target Ally's shadow, becoming Entangled to the Allies position and granting them a shield for 115% of his current HP and bonus MS for 6 sec. While the Ally is targetable they do not take any damage and Abraham only takes damage once 15% of the shields health is gone. Abraham's shield/HP shares the Ally's HP regen and any Heals they receive. During this time Abraham can cast abilities and is Untargetable.

6.) Shadow Siphon Abraham channels maintaining 70% MS and AA's drawing in all tethered enemy shadows within 600 units massively slowing them. After 3 sec Abraham rips the shadows back stealing 10% max HP of each unit still within range (works with Shadow Essence passive).

i could go all all day but u get the idea

The Other Keller1 votes

These ideas are amazing

like holy shit, i need reread them again

The Other Keller1 votes

OK so after some melding of your ideas and mine, what are your thoughts on this version of Abraham? Ignore my other comments.

Passive: Shadows Affliction Every time Abraham manipulates shadows it take a toll on his mind, weakening his limitations. Casting abilities grant stacks lasting 5 sec. Every time Abraham is Unseen or in Brush for 3 sec he gains a stack. At 5 stacks Abraham is overcome transforming into a shadow beast gaining a burst of decaying MS and AS for 6 sec before going on CD. Transformation cleanses all CC and Silences Abraham. Every time a tethered unit dies Abraham instantly gains max stacks. If a tethered unit dies while Abraham is transformed, the duration and burst of decaying MS and AS is refreshed. if a tethered unit dies while Shadows Affliction is on CD, a portion of the CD is refunded.

Shadow beast is melee and the first auto attack to an enemy champion for the entire duration of shadow beast will deal bonus damage, rending the targets shadow dealing 12% of targets max health.

Q: Shadows Covenant Abraham targets a champion, delaying all damage done to them for 2.5 seconds and blocking 40/50/60/70/80% of all healing during the duration. Delayed damage can be seen with a red bar going down during the duration.

"Protection comes at a price"

W: Growing Darkness Abraham creates a 500 (not sure on size) unit radius AoE lasting 3 (times the amount of tethered targets Abraham has stolen) seconds slowing enemies by 10%, gaining additional 10% slow every second while remaining in AoE to a cap of 60% and reduces an enemies sight radius the longer they remain in AoE. Allies that stand in the AoE gain shields for 15% of the damage they do.
In Shadow Beast form, running through AoE will create a trail following Abraham for the remaining duration.

"In the darkness our power grows" "The more shadows there are the STRONGER I become"

E: Shadow Puppeteer Passive - My Shadows and Me: Champs effected by Abraham's abilities have their shadows stolen, tethering them to him within 1300 units for 12 sec (12 sec enemy unit CD). Tethered enemies are revealed in the fog of war. Active - Abraham manipulates his shadow quickly extending out in the target direction damaging and passing through units. Hitting an enemy champ will Entangle and force them to make the same movements that Abraham makes for the next 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 sec. Allies hit with active are tethered. Notes: Entangle means: Rooted and Disarmed

"A Shadow Follows its OWNER!!" "All shadows belong to ME"

R: Interwoven Shadow Abraham melds into shadow and leaps into the target Ally's shadow, becoming Entangled to the Allies position and granting them a shield for a % of his max HP and bonus MS for 6 (plus 1 second for every tethered shadow) seconds. Once the Shield is broken, Abraham and his Ally split damage taken 50/50. Neither can die while the other remains alive, either the allies or Abraham's HP will go no lower than 1 HP as long as others HP is greater than 1. Abraham takes damage as true damage based off of how much damage the ally takes. During this time, Abraham can cast abilities and is untargetable. Recasting Interwoven Shadow will separate the two and Abraham will appear from behind the Allies current facing direction.

can I ask why you think an ult increasing AD/AP is bad? There are multiple champs that already do this. Twitch, vayne, Olaf, Jax, to name a few.

I can somewhat agree with your thoughts on it not sticking close to shadow theme, I personally really like the abilities and how they fit together, I just couldnt think of any other way that could give rise to those powers other than a "shadow" or "dark magic" theme.

Its one thing to grant urself AD/AP its another to grant it to an ally. If a champ has a dmg buffing ult they are balanced, around that. If a champ doesn't have a dmg buffing ult they are balanced around that, see how it works?

The Other Keller1 votes

I fail to see your point with that reasoning. I don't understand how a stat buff (that is nothing crazy, talking at most maybe scaling up from 30 - 50 AD/AP dependent on champ) for a maybe max of 2.5 seconds as an ultimate is some how way more broken than other basic interactions in the game currently.

Like for instance: -a lulu giving an adc Pix while also having a Ardent sensor doesn't make all the mainly auto attack reliant champs get balanced around that interaction -or an Orianna giving the ball to a tank increasing their armor and mr by up to 30 each doesn't mean a rammus or malphite whom's damage scales off of armor will get tuned around that -a juggernaut, who is typically balanced around not being very good at getting onto their target didnt get nerfed because Ivern's Q allows anyone to jump directly to the target. -or a kayle ultimate making a champ just outright not die for 3 seconds doesn't mean every champ will get balanced around the chance of them staying alive for 3 seconds longer than they should be able to normally.

I understand that none of the interactions actually gives flat bonus AD/AP and that flat bonus AD/AP (usually) factors into all spells and autos of buffed champ where as the other interactions don't do that. I would argue that some of the interactions with at most one item and a basic spell supply waaaay more damage than what I'm proposing.

SIgh its not my point I am only backing up reasoning that Riot themselves have made before. I should have said that from the beginning.

They have explicitly said it is not healthy for the game to create a support that buffs allied dmg directly because in the current way things are played that would almost make they support overshadow (see what i did there) almost all the others.

Whats the ADC's job? deal a ton of damage and take out targets and objectives. Whats the supports job help the adc achieve that in any way possible. If u give the support a DIRECT way to do that WITHOUT any draw backs then its gonna be unbalanced. It would make Abraham much more important than other Supports. Now maybe there is a way to do it, but it needs to have some serious drawbacks, and limitations for it to work, because on a successful ADC, adding more dmg to them for almost free makes them even more overbearing.

In Lulu's case pix doesnt dmg towers a drawback for ADC's who r supposed to take towers. Additionally it doesnt boost the allies AD/AP it only adds additional magic dmg when an ally AA's a target - That is a very big distinction and for ADC's who for the majority deal AD with AA's this is a limitation Items don't count b/c anyone can buy them we are talking about kits not items.

Orianna doesnt DIRECTLY buff an allies dmg. Additionally tanks with alot of armor with abilities that scale with armor are the for the majority not the major damage threats. But again the distinction is that this ability doesn't DIRECTLY, allied dmg, its primary function is a shield not dmg buffing.

Its ok, because Ivern himself is balanced around the fact that he gives allies that benefit. For the majority he isn't a major dmg threat nor the tankiest either. Additionally dont get off track the point of this discussion is that Riot doesn't want to give supports an ability that DIRECTLY buffs allied dmg.

same with Kayle dont get off track, riot doesnt have anything against supps giving survivability or mobility, they have something against supps giving dmg.

a straight dmg buff Its also quite boring and uninteractive ability, sure the same could be said for Kayle, but it can be used for clutch saves, or outdueling potential

it also doesnt leave much choice for the Abraham player, when a fight breaks out an ADC more often than not will expect an Abraham player to give them the ult, it makes more since than saving it for the passive (b/c then the ADC is already dead) or the self cast, b/c the ADC will make MUCH better use of it, they will already have higher AD than Abraham and they can deal dmg at range while Abraham is melee. And If Abraham doesn't use it on the ally and the fight goes poorly, the Abraham player will be blamed for it

Quite frankly it makes him an ult bot, and we already know Riot feels uncomfortable about Ult Bots, because the rest of their kit has to be suboptimal to make up for it.

There are other ways that u can directly buff alllied damage, and if u want I can make suggestions on that, but I think u can do much better by coming up with a more creative more thematic ability.

If you "understand that none of the interactions actually gives flat bonus AD/AP" then u also understand that there must be a reason why an ability that "gives flat bonus AD/AP" doesn't exist, b/c if u don't see it Riot didn't make it for a reason.

Its not about how much dmg it provides its about what the primary use of the ability is and what effects it has, and how interactive it is.

The Other Keller1 votes

Given this explanation, I understand the reasoning why it would be a "bad" ability.

So it would need a different ability almost completely, the only thing is that I really like how it currently interacts with the self cast. Thoughts on that? would it be too confusing to alter how it works so it doesn't become an ult bot while also being able to be self casted and have Abraham transform himself? To put it probably more simply, would it be too confusing to have different mechanics dependent on the target? (kinda like Lulu spells) ?

Here's some more

Fight the Shadows Abraham activates the shadows of an ally or him self, causing their basic attacks to deal a delayed second round of dmg from a shadow version of themselves.

Disperse Shadows Abraham reveals a portion of the map for x sec

Shadow Army Abraham creates shadow clones of all allies at their current positions. The clones will run to the nearest lane and follow the nearest minion wave.

The Other Keller1 votes

I'm liking the Fight of the Shadows idea, Ideally I want the ult to have a "significant" amount of damage in it because how I have envisioned him is that his 3 base spells revolve completely around utility with hardly any damage and the whole of Abrahams damage be packed into his passive and ult. Thoughts on maybe an ult that creates a shadow very similar to ekko ult past self thing, that follows targeted ally champ around for x seconds and does all delayed actions that the ally does? including spells (excluding ults maybe) and autoes? Would that become same issue as having him be an "ult bot"? would it even be possible? would it be fun?

With that being said I feel like Disperse Shadows doesnt fit the best, could be a cool maybe different base spell (but tuned down to be a base spell)? Shadow Army, feels a bit too close to Yorick ult.

Ah! sorry! haven't checked in awhile. Give me a sec to respond to your other posts.

Main passive: What does rending the targets shadow mean? I feel like this section of the passive is disjointed from the rest and thus needed, tho if u said AA's were buffed 4 the number of tethered units that might help.

Q: Does it block dmg for allies and block healing for enemies? Or does it do both either way? The main problem w/ Q is that I don't b see how it matches the shadow theme at all.

W: What is the shadow beast trail supposed 2 do?

I like the ult and how it helps with survivability.

The Other Keller1 votes

I was just trying to fluff the sentence up with words. I'm not the best with writing. Basically just want the shadow beast form to do extra damage with autos. I like the idea of having a set number of bonus AA's with how many tethered units there are. That would tie more of the kit together.

I like you're idea that you had for the ult a hell of a lot more than what I originally had, I thought increasing duration by number of tethers would make the kit more coehsive as well.

For the Q: I was thinking it would do both to allies or enemies depending on who is targeted; or at the very least delay damage for both and only reduce healing for enemies. Let me see if I can try and put my thoughts into words for this and then let me know your thoughts. When I think of shadow magic, I think of magic that is inherently "evil" magic. With that thinking in mind, here we have a support that wants to use this magic to support/protect others and with evil magic that doesn't really happen unless there's a price to be paid. So I really want this mechanic or at least a very similar version to what's going on in the kit. It could definitly get rewritten to something along the lines of "Abraham forces a targeted champion into the shadow realm and creates a shadow doppelgänger in their place for 2.5 seconds. The Champion controls their doppelgänger for the duration. Any damage done to doppelgänger is delayed until the champion returns from the shadow realm. Allies receive 90/85/80/75/70% of damage done to doppelgänger while enemies receive 100% of damage done to doppelgänger. Healing is also reduced on doppelgänger." Something like that maybe? Is that better?

For the trail on the W, it's a way to extend the AoE, if enemy champions have gotten out of the original AoE, you can bring it to them is shadow beast form, compounding the negative effects again or bringing the AoE to ally champs to allow them to use the benefits of bein in the AoE. Also gives Abraham a way to create more tethers if the player so chooses by bringing AoE to champs who have not been tethered yet. I also wanted an interaction with the shadow beast and his basic spells given his new passive where using spells can make him transform.
