Appearance:
-
Human Form: A tall dark haired human, heavily glad in ornate armor colored silver and gold accentuated with white cloth and a tabard. In his right hand he holds a spectral remnant of his once lost sword and in his left he bears a large golden kiteshield.
-
Undead Form: Cursed to the form on an undead this version of Rannek is a shadow of his former self. A large amount of his muscle mass has rotted away, his armor is tarnished to become a grey/bronze color and is missing segments, the cloth around his armor is long worn out and dirited and his once regal tabard is torn and eaten away. The shield is left largely whole but has also lost it's sheen and rusted over time.
**Passive: Redemption **
-
Undead: Rannek's undead curse weighs heavily upon his holy based powers, his abilities deal a percentage of their base damage back to Rannek as true damage when in his undead form. If Rannek deals damage, receives damage or uses an ability it fuels his redemption meter, once full he will temporarily regain his human form and reset his cooldowns (10 seconds)
-
Redeemed: Rannek regains his lost human form for the next 10 seconds, when he first enters this state his basic ability cooldowns are reset. While in this state his abilities heal him for 2% of his maximum hp rather than deal damage to himself as well as add the following base stats.
(Increases with ultimate level) Maximum Health: +250/350/500 Attack Damage: +15/30/40
Q: Consecrated Strike: Rannek calls upon his divine strength and empowers his next auto attack, he sweeps his blade in a large arc and fires a horizontal projectile originating on the first target hit dealing 20/40/60/80/100 bonus damage (.8 ad ratio) This projectile passes through units dealing equal damage to the initial strike to the first target hit and 50% damage to subsequent units. If this ability hits a champion, the cooldown is reduced by 1 second for each champion hit (6 second cooldown, all levels)
Note: While the empowered auto attack can apply on hit effects such as crit and lifesteal, the projectile can not. This skill also functions as an AA reset, meaning it can be cast after an auto attack for a quick second attack.
W: Righteous Defense:
-
Passive: Years of rigorous training in service of his city have taught Rannek to use his massive endurance offensively as well as defensively, 1.25% of Rannek's maximum health is converted into additional attack damage.
-
Active: Rannek bashes the targeted champions with his shield stunning them for 1/1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5 seconds and dealing damage 50/70/90/110/130 (.4 ad ratio) (10 second cooldown)
E: Judgement of Light: Rannek uses his holy powers to judge his target. If cast on an ally it will heal them for 4/5/6/7/8% of their maximum health (+.2 AD), if cast on an enemy it will deal 30/50/70/90/110 damage (.2 ad) and cause the weight of their sin to slow their movement speed by 10/15/20/25/30% for 2 seconds. If this ability is cast on himself while in undead form, he will take instead take 200% base damage and gain 25% redemption. (20 second cooldown)
Notes: Basically an all in one targeted skill, while mostly functioning as a heal for his allies, Rannek can use this on himself for a quick burst of redemption. Casting on an enemy will deal relatively low damage, but allow him to stick to targets easier.
R: Justice Through Vengeance: This ability can only be cast on a target who has recently killed an ally champion (6 seconds), after a short channel, Rannek will become temporarily invulnerable and dash to the selected target in a burst of lightning slashing and slamming the target with his shield for 300/400/600 (+ 1.0 AD) magic damage and dealing 50% damage to anyone caught in the aoe. If this skill is cast while undead, Rannek will gain 50% redemption at the cost of 20% of his current health (120/100/80 second cooldown)
Playstyle: Rannek functions as a bruiser first and foremost, being best suited for the frontline. He more or less needs to build both bulk and lifesteal/health regen, as he uses health as a resource for all of his skills while in undead form. Certain elements such as his E allow him to build up redemption faster at the cost of his own life.
Passive: Redemption: Function in a similar fashions to Gnar's 'Rage'. Taking damage, dealing damage or using a skill fills his redemption meter by a predetermined amount, once the meter hits 100% he will transform into his human form.
Q: Consecrated Strike: His primary source of damage is his “Consecrated strike”; as a poke it functions similarly to Vi's E “Excessive force” but where it mostly shines is in teamfights where the aoe damage and cluster of champion targets allow it to deal maximum damage as well as have a reduced cooldown for each enemy champion hit.
**W: Righteous Defense: **
-
Passive: This allows for Rannek to build defensively while still maintaining some minor level of damage dealing capability. Due to the passive element of he gains a minor amount of additional attack just for building some level of bulk. While being a good way to gain additional damage it is by no means overly efficient. To give a direction example of this he will only gain 37.5 additional attack damage at 3000 health, (average for a bruiser) at the higher end of 4000 health he will only gain 50 additional attack damage at the cost of more efficient damage dealing items.
-
Active: A melee range stun, while it boasts low cooldown and decent damage it offers nothing without being in the thick of the mess as Rannek doesn't have a reliable gap closer.
**E: Judgement of Light: **One of the more interesting elements of Rannek's kit, a decent heal to friendly units but not overly powerful, the slow element allows him to chase down enemies. The real kicker here is the special ability of Judgement of Light, when in undead form this causes Rannek to judge himself, taking a significant amount of damage but gaining additional redemption from the experience. While it can be risky to take the hit it can also be a life saver if you can redeem yourself when necessary to turn a fight around, or simply want to use it as a method of prepping yourself for a fight beforehand.
R: Justice Through Vengeance: I had trouble with this one, Ranneks story is one of vengeance and devotion, so I wanted to try to encapsulate those themes into his ultimate. While at first having such a limited ultimate (only works on a teammates death) seemed crippling, after some revision I think I have put it in a good place where it can function properly while still sticking to the theme, it more or less allows Rannek to jump major enemy threats and possibly lock them down using his stun to possibly reverse a teamfight and give your side a chance of fighting back. On the other hand, having teammates die shouldn't exactly be your goal in life.
Lore: League Judgement style!
Candidate: Rannek
Observation:
With a burst of fresh air the double doors of the great hall fly open and the ghoul emerges from the open portcullis, the grim visage of rotting flesh and exposed bone marching solemnly down the halls. He wears what appears to be the remnants of some ancient armor, what were once ornate plates have long ago rusted and tarnished, the cloth tabard that once hung from them is now nothing more than torn rags. Yet still, his gait was not that of a tattered ghoul, but rather that of a proud, if wounded, warrior. Unlike so many other denizens of the shadow isles, this ghoul did not emanate the cold darkness of the mist into the room with him, in fact his very aura appeared to be warm, hot even, the feeling of a hatred so intense that is burned into his very soul. As he walks under the marble doors he halts and raises his head to the inscription above, his eyeless glowing pits glaring at it with curiosity before he continues to head through.
Reflection:
The abyssal blackness around him was nothing new to Rannek, he had lived in the dark for so long it hardly mattered to him anymore, but what did surprise him was the light.
Blinded, he stood momentarily in the grassy field in confusion while with his eyes blinking in an attempt to adjust to the sudden exposure of light. Eyes? Shocked he held his arms out in front of him and blinked once more. His skin, long rotted and torn was no more, instead replaced with the true flesh and bone. He tested his grip tentatively, his armored gauntlets gleaming in the sunlight and his once lost blade clasped firmly at his side as it once had been all those years ago; its golden guard shining brightly around the sapphire embedded in the center; a gem signifying honor and duty. The edge as keen as it had been the day it was given to him, the purple inlay along the blades fuller signified its royal status. It had been forged years before he had the honor of wielding it. Justice? He thought; remembering the name as he gazed over the ancient runes blazoned into the side of the blade. He felt the blood flowing through his veins, this was no brief transformation, no shadow of his former self. It felt real.
“Why are you here?” the sound broke the silence of his amazement, the voice echoing throughout his mind like shattering glass.
Rannek looked down and saw him, a young boy at the tender age of eight. His clothing was just as it has been that day. That day . No, it couldn't be. Rannek rose his head and focused on the city beyond the field he stood in, the once proud sparkling city stood firm once again instead of the ruins that haunted he memories. He has been too late before, but not now. He could still save it, he would be faster this time he could still make things right!
“You know that isn't true” the voice chimed in once again shattering his illusions.
For a brief moment he looked back to the child, staring at him in confusion before looking towards the city again, his city. In an instant the vision before him had changed, the sunlight reflecting off the golden towers replaced with a dark storm hovering around it. In the distance he saw it, the endless horde approaching the gates, crawling, skittering, limping their way to destroy his home. With every inch that the dark mist spread, the horde moved with it. At the head of the pack he saw the visage of the dark figure that haunted his endless existence, a giant armored man, even from here he could make out the spikes in his armor, the mace on his shoulder. His shut his eyes to drown in an attempt to drown out what he knew was coming. The cacophony of blades, the symphony of steel and screams that would begin to ring out out in mere moments. Rannek fell to his knees and then darkness enveloped him once again leaving only the child.
“Why do you want to join the league?” the boy asked.
Rannek looked down at his again broken form, had all of it had been an illusion? No, a memory, one he had lived a thousand times over in his mind before, but never so real.
“For them” he said solemnly, “For my wife, for my city...” and looking back to the child “For my son.”
With that revelation the boys image melted away and was replaced with that of a robed man.
“How does it feel? Exposing your mind?” the summoner asked.
Rannek smiled and felt the other presence disappear as the darkness dissipated around him. Leaving him alone in the hall. He stood to his feet and looked over to the gates that would take him to the rest of the institute of war.
“For vengeance...”
Alternate lore page: (This was thrown together to establish some more back story seeing as a champions lore and judgement are always separate) “Legends speak of a denizen of the shadow isles unlike any other. A haunted figure clad in armor and bearing a mysterious spectral weapon. Whispers in the night say that he was once some kind of knight for a long lost civilization, they say he walks the desecrated roads day and night and only pauses at the sight of another evil creature in the shadows. What makes this warrior so special from any other ghoul you ask? They say he fights the other denizens”
“What a crock, ain't no ghoul that'll fight their own” said the other tavern patron
“It's true I say! It isn't even that he fights them neither, he slaughters them, by the dozens!”
“You expect us to believe that? That is like saying a Demacian would run out on a bill” the interrupter laughed out, taking another gulp from his mug.
“Look I am telling you I heard it from a very reliable source! My cousin is an alchemist, and he was going around the isles lookin' for some kind of special plant see? Well the fool went and did it on his own thinking he could just sneak in and out and no problem, and lo' and behold he got ambushed by a pack of the undead, near a score of em'. He thought he was a goner for sure, when this weird rotter crossed by and came upon them. At first, it seemed like he was with them being all rotted and what not, but he just leaps in starts slashin' and bashin' away with that ghost sword o' his, and get this. My cousin said, that while he was in the middle of those things he started blasting out flashes of light at em'!
Another patron chimed in “If your cousin thinks he saw an undead killin' undead and using some sort of light magic I think he needs to stop sampling his own ingredients”
As the tavern patrons laughed over the implication a force stirred outside the buildings walls. A large figure clad in spike covered armor stood up for a few moments considering the information it had just gathered, a swift punch to the wall shook the tavern building by its foundations, and taking his gigantic mace and placing it over his shoulder, he stomped off maliciously into the night. There was much work that needed to be done.

Note: This Artwork is not created by me. I have a friend and artist working on a fresh concept (less skeleton, more zombie and with a shield) but this is simply a placeholder until that is finished due to the concept being similar and the artwork being awesome.
