A cold sunlight rose over a sprawling garden. The pond wakes combed by a light breeze, water lilies drifting along their gentle reflection. Suddenly a disturbance from across the hedges. A monk from the Shojin Monastery barged through the gates, several guards in tow. Nimbly he strikes, his palms cutting the very air.
Effortlessly dispatched.
A crowd of onlookers rally behind the monk, their faces matted in sweat and tears. The horizon of war weighed on their shoulders.
The monk quickly advanced through the garden searching.
Before finally finding whom he had been looking for,
A quiet man mediating within an elaborate pavilion.
The scene overlooked the grounds and the gathering crowd.
The man wore an armored headdress, no doubt mocking the Mantle of Decorum.
Behind him his exotic beast coiled from its slumber at the approaching stranger.
News of the man’s move to claim a seat among the Elders, aiding the Noxians had reached the monk’s monetary.
“Magister”, the monk began, “I will not stand by and let you aid in the destruction of our homeland.”
It was impossible to tell if the magister had even been paying attention.
The monk continued, “Our people have suffered enough. Now you invite the enemy to claim what is ours? The promise of power? The Elders will not stand for this.”
The magister shifted slightly. The crowd rippled in anxiety. The monk took notice.
These people gather but they do not shout or cheer? Something is wrong here.
But the crowd knew what the monk did not. And slowly the magister rose to his feet. The monk could barely make out his watery gray eyes through the visor of his headdress.
“The Noxian’s aim to purge our lands of weakness”, The magister spoke without parting his lips. “Do you know why I am to ascend as Elder?”
The monk’s body began to tense. He could feel ethereal tendrils creeping along his skin. Pain like hot knives prod at his temples, his sight began to blur as he succumb to the agonizing pain.
