This was based on memory for the most part, and its size is limited due to a small collection of pieces on hand for what was needed.
Hoping I can get my hands on some more pieces to increase size and detail to truly do these things justice. What should I try next?

If you wanna impress anyone you need to make this on a much, much larger scale.
This is good for maybe getting an idea of what your actual project is gonna look like, but underwhelming as a final product.
I mean... not to be rude, but my 3 and 4 year old kids make stuff that looks like this regularly, completely by accident. It's not hard, you've got what... a couple dozen pieces in there? Maybe 30? Maybe 40? You can only make something so detailed with so few pieces.
Keep at it though. Try it with like 200 pieces, see what you come up with. You seem to have the drive and the creative bug, but you need to dream bigger dreams.
Now make a tower to go with it.
