Champion rank is a fairly worthless measure of skill. Its 90% based on win / loss so you can grind perpetually to get ranks. That and it takes forever to grind up for anyone who only plays 1-3 games a day. Maybe level 3, to show you've at least played the champ a bit before.

I have been playing since pre-season 1 and own every champion in the game. I play almost all of them competently enough that I would feel comfortable taking them into ranked. But I don't play any of them frequently enough to have level 5 on more than a handful, because I play so many different champions.

To tell me I have to reduce my pool of over 90 champions I would be comfortable playing ranked with to 3 is incredibly implausible and frankly ridiculous.

If there was to be any sort of limit implemented, I think I should instead be that you are only allowed to play champions you have more than 20 or 30 wins on in normal games. This would include champions you do not own, but are on the free to play rotation. I don't think this would be a particularly good idea, but it would be the best way to implement a restriction I can think of.

And, if Riot doesn't have the normal number of normal games you have on every champion, simply grandfather in all champions a player owns when you release this system.

That would take a grossly large excess of time to accumulate that many champions. I have probably~5-8 champions @ level 5 and I played a considerable amount over the summer following the patch. That was ~6ish months ago. No one would be able to play ranked.

If they did that, a lot of people would have their champ pool severely cut down. For me, it would go down from like 32ish to about 6. Jax Tristana Rumble Leona Teemo and Ekko .
