Lore

Szayel, one of the legendary Five Paths of Prophecy, meditated peacefully in Eden, a synthetic world created by Nazaraxus, God of Passage, or in simpler meanings, Life and Death. He dictated whether or not a passing soul would be brought back to life under sacred reasons or let through the gates of Hijuron, the Afterworld. The Five Paths of Prophecy were Khali, Prophet of Clairvoyance; Xaladuin, Prophet of Affliction; Dahl, Prophet of Victory; Shiurka, Prophet of Order and Peace; and Szayel, Prophet of Retribution. During the time of Earth’s construction, Nazaraxus created multiple various life forms and placed them on his imperfect structure. For three millennia, he analyzed every life form’s behavioral patterns and responses to their given environments and under certain life-threatening situations. Nazaraxus was displeased with what he witnessed by his own hands. Violence ravaged the earth, war and plague and hatred spreading faster than anything he had ever seen. Civil and traditional conflicts developing into battles that cost millions upon millions of innocent lives, rituals that served no purpose, and children being raised to murder and despise their own beings. In fear of what the future beheld, he created the Five Paths of Prophecy, each one sent down to Earth to spread his words of love and kindness, hate and despair, destruction and reconstruction, healing and cursing. Once they portrayed their godlike powers, people began to spread the teachings of Nazaraxus, converting others to follow his words of guidance. After five hundred years of conversion and influence, Earth’s people became tranquil and willingly gave their hearts and souls to Nazaraxus, and the Prophets returned back to Eden to meditate and channel their energy to Earth, protecting it while guiding its people to the right paths in life.

Szayel, brother to the other four and son to Nazaraxus, guided those who craved vengeance and revenge against others. He mentored his followers like a teacher would mentor their student, giving them unremarkable amounts of hope and faith to obtain their revenge without murdering their enemies. His followers wouldn’t be cursed for murdering the ones they hated, but even they knew that Szayel preferred violence without fatalities. As the Prophet of Retribution, it would be likewise that he has murdered millions in his lifetime. But every passing second, he regrets even pointing a blade towards their throats or hearts. However, he also knew that it was the right thing to do. In the name of prosperity, things must be sacrificed, even if it is his father’s creations. Just like the other Prophets, every part of Szayel was absolute gold, dark enough to be easily mistaken for bronze or copper. He was six feet tall and had bunched muscles that gave his body a more define and intimidating appearance. He was a moving, breathing statue. Szayel wore a long thin coat that draped near his ankles, tattered near the ends. It swayed constantly as if an imaginary wind was causing it to dance without halt. There were no buttons, so a wide strip of space was revealed straight down the middle, exposing his broad chest and abdominals. Beneath his upper body, Szayel wore the lower half of a samurai’s robe. His hair was slicked back, with a few loose strands dangling over his forehead.

While he was in a Buddhist-like position, levitating over a clear ocean that expanded forever, he sensed another presence nearby. He turned his head slowly and saw Xaladuin standing over him in silence. “Greetings, Brother.”

Xaladuin nodded in response. There was a brief moment of silence. “Father has summoned us. It’s important.”

“Just us?”

“No,” Xaladuin shook his head. “All of us.”

Szayel stared at Xaladuin for a moment. All five Prophets have ever rarely been summoned all at once. “It must be another World War. Very well then, let’s go.”

In a flash, both brothers teleported to an all-white altar where five thrones decorated it. Each one was an ancient elegant seat with symbols hovering above them. Szayel’s symbol was a pulsing Warhammer standing upright. He and the others teleported to their thrones miles in the air and patiently waited. Not a word was said. During seldom summons like these, conversing was strictly prohibited. Out of the very stone, Szayel was overwhelmed with a flood of energy that invaded his body and mind. It was like a random hurricane blew through the place with winds that could shred the skin off any mortal. Szayel knew the source of such power, but even after so many years, he could never get used to it. In some way, either his body or mind responded to it in a negative manner. A ball of light grew in the center until it was the size of the earth’s moon. It shined brightly, but not enough to blind the Prophets. Szayel was staring into the core of an artificial sun.

“Father…” Szayel murmured to himself. “You never fail to impress us.”

The energy calmed itself to a gentle breeze and Nazaraxus began to speak, his voice echoing throughout the entire place. “Greeting, my beloved children.”

“Blessings,” the brother responded simultaneously.

“I apologize dearly for such the sudden interruption, but this is of dire importance,” Nazaraxus began. Magic rifted through the air, creating portal-like ovals that revealed specific locations.

“Demacia…Noxus…” Shiurka said, instantly recognizing the places.

“Correct. I’ve come to a conclusion. A sudden one,” there was a pause. “They need to be destroyed, erased from existence.” There was an awkward silence for a good minute before Xaladuin replied. “This is…unlikely of you to do such a thing, Father.”

“It isn’t like of me to speak out so quickly, I understand,” Nazaraxus said. “But ever since the League was established, death has been the only toll for its participants. It’s an absolute waste of human and unhuman life. For so long, I have observed and waited, hoping for a change. But there hasn’t been, and from what my data states, there never will be. I will not tolerate this any longer.”

“Why not just send Xaladuin, Dahl, and I? If destruction is what you are wishing for, we can make it happen by ourselves,” Szayel suggested, getting a few agreeing responses from his brothers.

When Nazaraxus heard the inside mumblings, he flared. “Silence! You do not know even half of what I do! When I say that all five of you need to work together to destroy these two hellholes, you need not to give any sort of complaint!”

There was no talkback.

“These champions have evolved into greater humans, beasts, and aliens over the course of the League’s years. They have overcame so many extraordinary things and still bear the courage to fight on. From intellect and knowledge, to the very muscle in their bodies, these life forces have made their names something worth remembering. Even though you are my children, I beg of you not to let your arrogances be your downfalls. You may behold the strength of Prophets, but the champions behold the minds of a god,” Nazaraxus said.

Szayel began to say something, but for once in his life, he actually gave a thorough thought of the past. The wars that he helped guide, the lives that were lost, and the people that took those very lives. They were cunning, smart, and powerful overall. He was amazed with their progression, and this was before the League’s time. Hundreds of years before. He looked around and noticed that everyone else was thinking the same thing too. With a few nods, Nazaraxus gave his farewells and vanished, leaving the room completely silent once more.

Recall Animation Szayel floats in midair and presses his hands together, his body slowly shredding away in the wind over the duration. When the recall time concludes, his body instantly materializes as he touches his home base.

Tips If you're playing as Szayel, be sure to poke your opponent with Cleave as many times as possible to harass your lane. Build up on attack speed and critical strike early game to enhance the effects of Thrive, then add a twist of attack and magic damage to help strengthen your abilities mid to late game. For burst damage, cast Cleave before entering battle, then initiate combat using Olympic Charge, follow with Cleave, and finish with Dawnstrike. Not only will this give you high amounts of burst damage, but it will also leave your target stunned for a short duration of time, allowing you to stack Thrive easily.

If you're going for more of a tanky/support (kind-of) approach, start the game with an item that will increase your HP in order to deal more damage with Dawnstrike and Olympic Charge, and also so that you don't drain your life away too quickly. Start off your team fights with Olympic Charge and immediately follow up with Dawnstrike to stun all nearby enemy champions. Know that Olympic Charge can go through just about any obstacle as long as there is a target in the given location. It would be useful to buy wards to expand your vision.

If you're playing against Szayel, try to skillshot him from a fair distance. Poke him with damage to ensure that Thrive doesn't kick in. If you don't have skillshots, push your lane hard but make sure not to engage him in 1v1 battle for too long. Thrive can be the ultimate gap between life and death. Don't open that gap. Be aggressive, but know when to reel it back when needed. Stand behind minion waves to shield yourself from Olympic Charge. AoE abilities work well to counter Retribution, especially if you're playing as Singed.
