Military Champion and Ability Concepts. . .
I wanted to make a champion concept that's military theme'd. Particularly one based on my idea of what Piltover's military would look like. So champions who use military issued weaponry and vehicles. Rifles, machineguns, tanks, that sort of thing. But unlike all the other existing gunner characters we have now such as
or
, I want these characters to have a more realistic looking military characteristics: What weapons they use, how they use them, all while balancing it with League of Legend's lore friendly setting. The theme in particular is weapons and equipment based on the Progressive Era. So weaponry you see in between World War 1 and 2.
I don't have a particular champion concept yet but here is a list of ideas I'd like to explore. . .
Weapons:
Machineguns -
For this particular concept, a certain champion will use rapid fire tick as his/her basic attacks, similar to
's gatling gun but more focused on a single target rather than a cone. Other attacks may include making one's self stationary to either have more range, more firepower, or the ability to rapidly fire bullets and deal lots of damage at a certain direction.
Sniper Rifles -
Unlike

I want this champion to use an actual sniper rifle as his/her base weapon. But not only will this champion shoot long range with certain abilities, or maybe basic attacks depending on how you can balance it, but the animation will show the character lying down on his belly for better aiming just like in real life. If this character can also have stealth capabilities, go for it. Just as long as it maintains balance in terms of ideal gameplay
Semi-Automatic and Pistol -
A particular combination of rifles and sidearms, this champion will have certain abilities involving the switch between the two firearms, similar to
switching between her minigun and her rocket. But unlike Jinx, the weapons will be used as separate abilities. Maybe have a particular mechanic where the character doesn't use auto attacks, instead, his ultimate will be when he/she fires his/her weapon towards the direction of the cursor. Kind of like the gameplay of those shooters like Stick Arena or Halo Spartain Assault or Strike.
Vehicles or Mounts:
Tanks -
Since
and
both get to bring vehicles into the Fields of Justice, it shouldn't hurt to have another yordle do the same thing. Particularly one who drives a tank. In real life, you would have more than one person ride the tank but since there are certain champions who are two people in one, perhaps this concept will have two yorldes operating the same tank. Either that, or the driver happens to be a talented mechanic who manages to make a tank that only needs one driver. The abilities for this kit would include using the tank's main cannon or machinegun, or use its treads to travel over certain terrain such as cliff edges. That, and also the ability to run over enemies.
Armored Cars - I did a quick research. This particular vehicle champion (Preferably a yordle as the driver) would drive an armored car, particularly the ones with a machine gun on it. The ideal size of the car should be about the size of Corki's helicopter. The champion's kit would mostly be based on its mobility. So perhaps a passive where the character could still use his auto-attacks while moving. Or maybe an ability that gives the car a boost. Since this is a car we're talking about, an armored car, perhaps the build would focus on building armor as well as mobility. Balancing that with ranged attacks may be difficult. There is another option for this concept. There were also armored vehicles back then that are used at troop transports. So perhaps a vehicle champion who drives a troop transport. Only this time, instead of sending out soldiers, they send out little robots since this Piltover we're talking about. This particular concept may be very difficult in terms of balance and designing but it might be possible.
Horseback -
Now this one in particular wouldn't be just made for a champion who's weapons are based on Piltover's weaponry. There could be other types of concept we could explore with a champion who rides a horse. We have
so it might be possible to have a champion who rides horse. This champion could be using a sword, a bow and arrow, a lance, a spear, a rifle, or a pistol. Doesn't matter. The focus would most likely on utilizing the horseback riding in combat.
I know these concepts sound ridiculous but hear me out. A lot of fantasy games we've played don't really have anything new to add into the mix. But I think League of Legends has the potentional to add very unusual character concepts. I mean it has many times before. Who brings a sword to a gun fight? Or more importantly, who would try to cut down a helicopter loaded with machineguns and rockets? If that concept can exist, I don't see enough reasons why these concepts wouldn't exist as well. But that's how I see it. I don't know about you guys, but the newer champions that come out recently, all look cool at first, but their character designs, even if fitting, all do look pretty generic. I like serious backstories. I just don't like the repetitive themes behind these dark backstories. I've never seen a champion who's backstory is based on something realistic like the horrors of warfare. Near deaths, losing limbs, diseases they face, PTSD, that sort of thing. If Riot could create a champion with that particular concept, that'd be great to look forward to.
