Reason was "Graves doesn't smoke all the time"? Really?

I can give a bit of context on why the cigar was removed. Essentially, there was a significant risk of censorship or age rating problems in various regions based on the depiction of tobacco usage. This kind of thing is pretty strictly enforced in parts of the world, and in this case it became clear that we needed to remove the cigar in his splash. The relevant laws sometimes apply differently depending on content type, which is why something that might work in peripheral content like a cinematic may not work in content like splashes that are tied specifically to the core game.

I can also speak a bit as to why we wouldn't create multiple splashes in response to this kind of issue. One of our goals moving forward with splash art, compared to how things have been done in the past, is to create content for all regions. In the past we've created modified or entirely different splashes based on the needs or appeal of certain regions, but this is something we've been working to change moving forward. Where possible, we want to stay away from sharding the game unnecessarily for different regions. It may seem like a small thing in this case, but we believe that being consistent with this artistic approach best allows for a common community and common stories for players to experience and share with each other.

Which is why other games (WoW and DotA2, for examples) create alternative (covered-up) versions of said skeletons. Riot's excuse is that such a practice would take time away from creating more content for all regions, but that's a pretty thin veil they've thrown up over whatever keeps them so bound to China's censorship laws. I don't want to believe that this policy is something Riot actively supports (that they actually think it's a good idea to neglect other countries because of specific attributes of one), but if it isn't, that would suggest that Tencent is forcing Riot's hand as their primary shareholder (or publisher, owner, whatever).

It's only taboo in China. Guess who owns Riot Games Inc? Tencent.

Guess where Tencent is from? You guessed it Billy, China. It's the same reason why Valve changed the Skeleton King in Dota into the Wraith King. Partly because of mounting copyright issues with Blizzard-Activision (They had to change Windrunner into Wind Ranger, change the Skeleton KIng into the Wraith King and all of the Spirits from Pandas into humanoid looking fellows), they were forced to turn Ostarion/Leoric into a spooky ghost.

I'm all for political correctness. But when you have an oppressive legion of "Feminists" (QUOTATIONS ARE FOR SARCASM, KIDS) and people who get "triggered" by skeletons due to their religion when on the other half of the world (i.e. Mexico), the Dead are actually CELEBRATED and REMEMBERED instead of treated like some kind of untouchable thing.

I mean shit, if Riot were really going to go full political correctness left wing appeasement (I mean, they ARE in the hive of scum and villainy California itself, no offense to the good people living out there), they'd change Alistar from being a Minotaur into something else because the Hindis consider Cows sacred. Hell, while we're at it let's just take every female character and put them all in full suits of clothes or armo-- Oh wait.

I never said I quit League; I said I've been spending time on HotS (partially due to Riot's censorship). Can you not read? You must be too busy producing/"product testing" Chinese-made, cheap plastic sex toys in a sweatshop. How does sleeping under rags in the streets of Beijing instead of in a bed feel?
