the Darkin are the Horsemen of the Apocolapse

With the release of Kayn, we got a whole bunch of context on the Darkin from his voice lines concerning other champions, like Zed and Varus . With two Darkin champions, Kayn and Aatrox , I've noticed some similarites between them and the Horsemen of the Apocolapse, the four embodiments of evil in the Book of Revelations (the Bible).

So first, some info on the Horsemen.

The first Horseman is Conquest:

"I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer." The is some dispute over whether the first Horseman is Conquest or Pestilence, but due to the use of the word conquer, I reckon it's the Conquest.

The second Horseman is War: "And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him."

The third is Famine: I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine."

and the fourth is Death: "I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him"

Anyway, each of the Darkin champions we know of so far show similarities with a certian horseman.

Aatrox is War. -His lore surrounds his role in fighting wars -He has numerous quotes referencing war and battle: "This battle will be my masterpiece." "War reveals what is within us." "I am as timeless as war."

  • and he uses a sword as his weapon, which is also the weapon that War wields: "...and a great sword was given to him."

Kayn/Raast is Death. -He has a bunch of quotes about death: "You never forget your first kill" "Death and War. This will be delicious" "We find Aatrox, and its a party! A murder party." -While Death the Horseman doesn't specifically wield a scythe, the weapon has been associated with the figure of Death for centuries, due to the Grim Reaper.

Varus is Conquest. -While not confirmed to be Darkin, the use of a living weapon and corruption on his skin indicates he is related to them in some way. -In his lore, he used his power to defeat the Noxian invaders- in other words, conquer them. -He uses a bow as his weapon, which is the same weapon as Conquest:
"I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow"

So, we have three Darkin champs linked with three Horsemen, leaving Famine as the last one. This likely means that the next Darkin champion to be released will likely be associated with Famine/hunger, and use scales to fight. As this doesn't really qualify as a weapon, it's possible that they could be a support, as this is a role that the other Darkin have not filled yet.

Thanks for reading! If you have any questions or stuff to add, then leave a comment.

Yeah, I saw that too. Aatrox and Raast also share a lifesteal build in. So maybe we can expect Varus mini rework to add this to him as well as changing his color scheme to more red and black to macth other Darkins. As for Famine supp, to fit both lifesteal and hunger I would imagine something like a bond (think Kalista) to ally and healing this ally through dealing damage. All Darkins seem to be damage focused so a damage oriented supp while still healing team could fresh out supp a bit

Actually Conquest is the fifth. The main four are: Famine, Pestilence, War, Death. The Bible is a really strange book. It's like the seven deadly sins. We all know them but there is not a single word about them in the Bible. So everything is speculation but those guys who study the book confirmed that the main four are Famine, Pestilence, War and Death. The existence of Conquest the question. But some say that there are five and that Conquest is that fifth.

Without that I think that with every rework and new champion Riot just give themselfs a reason to rework the other champs: AS and Targon update just made Phant a champion that needs a rework. The same thing with WW from where Singed needs a rework. And now with Kayn the realised that Aatrox will need one so he is the next after Eve. But we have four Darkins total. We have two by now even if we all know that Varus is one of the four it isn't congirmed.

Varus's bow represents vengeance and that's very clearcut as Varus's title is referred to as the arrow of retribution and his passive living vengeance. Also I believe it's sufficient to say Varus i not a darkin as Varus is the name of the vessel and not the darkin weapon.

We already have the horsemen of the apocalypse in the game spread across many Shadow Isles champs

I don't think the Darkins are gonna be that, and given that there's 5 of them so it's not like it'd work in the first place, as there are only 4 horsemen.

They may be referencing the princes of hell or something, but there are 7 and we only have 5...

Dunno.

Varus is driven by vengeance and he opposed an invading force. He is in no way try to establishing a reign on his own.
