Alaine, the Shattered Guardian
Here is a concept I thought up over 2-3 years in my off time, I think it’s very interesting and thought I’d share with the community. (Yes, she shares some things with Riven, Riven is thematically my favorite champion and sho it shows.)
In the beginning, there was nothing... but Aurelion Sol. He went across the vast cosmos, shaping stars and galaxies to his liking. However, no amount of space he could fill would ever fill the space within his heart. In desperation to have a companion, he created himself a daughter, Alaine. Whereas Aurelion sought to create, Alaine wanted to protect. She discovered the effects her father had brought to the universe. Life. She came down to Runeterra, making her likeness that of the people she met. However, her duty was more important than her pleasure, and in the distance she saw something truly terrible. The Void, a godless amalgam seeking to destroy Runeterra. She forged her armor from pure stars and went to war against the Void itself. After millennia of battle, Alaine banished the Void to the darkest reaches of the universe, at great cost. Her armor sundered, her spirit broken, a last remnant of the Void striked at her, shattering her godlike form and throwing it into Runeterra. The Void, knowing it could not destroy Runeterra yet, burrowed itself into Icathia, biding it’s time. Alaine fell into Targon, the mountain burying her for countless years... she emerged as the Void made a large vibration that awakened her. What the Void is planning, she does not know. But, she was tasked to defend her father’s creation. She will fulfill her duty. Alaine has white irises, white hair, fair complexion, and pale skin.
Alaine wears ragged leather, has no weapon, is melee, and her autos cause her hands to light up with bright light and slash.
Her personality is very solemn. Like poppy, she has a mission, but she doesn’t joke and is definitely not naive.
Passive: Armor of Eons Alaine calls upon the cosmos to provide her armor, each providing interesting effects. Every spellcast aside from her ult will shift the armor she is provided with, allowing for many combos. Additionally, she gains more pieces of armor that are permanent at levels 11 and 16. These count as skill points that she has to invest into, therefore her ult only has one rank.
Gauntlets: passively grants her increased auto range and augments her abilities
Greaves: passively grants her increased movement speed and augments her abilities
Helmet: passively grants her a percentage true damage on her attacks and abilities and augments her abilities
At level 11 she gains Breastplate: passively increases her armor and magic resist and her range on ult activation
At level 16 she gains Wings: further increases her movespeed and makes her immune to grounding effects
Q: Spectral Shards Alaine throws shards ahead of her, hitting the first target hit Gauntlets: increased range, pulls target hit to her Greaves: brings Alaine to the first champion hit or at the end of the shard’s range Helmet: does a percentage true damage and strikes multiple targets in a cone
W: Stellar Flourish Alaine flourishes in a cone Gauntlets: increased range and knocks targets away slightly (think Jayce E) Greaves: Leaves a field of stellar energy on the ground, making enemies that remain in the field to take all damage that Alaine deals as true damage, and makes true damage that Alaine would normally deal, deal extra Helmet: deals true damage and pulls targets hit to her
E: Resolute Stride Alaine dashes in a line, damaging all enemies hit Gauntlets: becomes a point and click gap closer, can target units hit recently by true damage Greaves: dash distance increased, but will stop upon hitting a champion, dealing bonus damage based on how short Alaine had to travel (reverse Zoe q) Helmet: carries the first target hit with Alaine to her destination
Explanation of basic abilities: Alaine is very combo intensive, what this does is add combos for situations that all play into her next armor piece. The armor rotation is a static Gauntlets-Greaves-Helmet. This allows for things like Greaves W to improve the damage of her Helmet spell. This adds dozens of combos that changes dynamically with what armor she currently has.
Ultimate: Fury of the Star Goddess Alaine taps into her previous potential, adding the passive effects of all of her armor and affecting her abilities. Upon activation, those looking at Alaine will be nearsighted at the presence of a god. Alaine can reactivate the ability to stun those looking at her. She additionally changes her model to imitate that of a constellation
New Q - Cone skillshot that can hit multiple targets, charms and deals true damage New W - affects a much larger field equal to the range of Alaine’s Q and always drops the true damage field New E - unleashes a shockwave upon finishing the dash that nearsights all hit.
This is probably the most overloaded kit in the game, but it brings interesting perspectives on combo champions and just how complicated champions can be. If you read all this word vomit, thank you.
Post Note: say Alaine was added to the game and the humans of ancient Runeterra saw her as a beacon in the sky fighting off the darkness. Perhaps Diana discovered worshipers of Alaine and not the moon? Interesting thought.
