Shae'leth Witch of the Shadow Isles (Champion Concept)

Strange concept, but an idea for a strategic support character. Was looking into the idea of a character that was quite literally a support priority character with minimal offensive abilities. Team would be required to work with the support but in a solo match up would have a chance to escape or harass long enough for help. Focusing on long duration abilities that required planning on use to set up future engages or to minimize early game threat. And an ultimate that worked thematically with this, and would cause the targets to consider how to work around being targeted.

Concept: Use lane minions or summoned minions against the opposing team. Hex as a primary spell that has an extremely long duration, meant to limit the capability of at least 2 opposing champions. Potentially until death of the target or recast on a new target after a cd (similar to Kindreds passive).

Background: Shae'leth was nursing her wounded pride once again after her 'shipmates' latest acts of disdain towards a woman on board. As she fell into her own malevolent thoughts of retribution, she didn't notice the tendrils of black shadows crawling through the ship. The sound of panic could be heard top deck as Shae'leth imagined the others turning upon themselves fighting and clawing due to their own greed and avarice. Only the sudden shuddering of the ship crashing aground broke through the dark dream she was having, a smile had crept over her which she quickly hid as she looked around still disoriented from the vivid images she had seen. She quickly made her way through the ship to see what had caused the ship to crash, finally making her way to the deck of the ship she was met with the sight of her own dark dream layed out in reality. Looking around she finally became aware of the Black Mist that had wrapped around her like a blanket, in a panic she tried to swat the mist away but again darkness was taking over her till she could stay awake no longer, the last thing Shae'leth heard before falling unconscious was a soft cruel laugh and the words; 'you are welcome'.

Years after being shipwrecked on the Shadow Isles Shae'leth had learned how to survive, even tame a portion of the malevolent powers hidden in the mist, though at a steep price. Though still young, her body had suffered, ravaged by the drain of undeath. Gaunt and frail in appearance now, she had harnessed even tamed some of the powers from the mist, allowing her to weaken the creatures of the isle and even turn them against one another. It was then, around the time of the Harrowing, that she found a ship. It was manned by a small would be group of pirates pretending to be bold in search of both plunder and refuge, little did they know a new passenger would be joining them on their voyage home.

The long cooldown for the base abilities is on purpose, the Hexes are meant to be long term harassment but not something the player is able to switch constantly. Choosing targets for the Hexes takes forethought and understanding long term outcomes of the investment. However I did see the need to give some lenience for early game play and end game team skirmishes. Add an alteration to cool downs in the passive to reflect this.

Hex's in general: Hex's would stay even if items were used to remove a part of the ability (i,e, quicksilver sash, Black Shield) but immunities would still work to remove them (i.e. Zhonya's Hourglass, Intervention). The lower AP scaling is on purpose, considering that damage is not the main priority. So for the abilities E, R: it's meant as a buffer to keep them relevant to harass and play smart as the game progressed and not creep into the powerhouse style.

Concerns on (R)Entropic Release: The Ult, were it to get more of a damage gain it would be very oppressive, though it only hits 2 champions it would be as powerful as Lux's ult+passive and a global hit like Karthus, that doesn't sound pleasant at all to play against.

Concerns on (E)Touch of the Mist: The idea was to give an escape mechanic that's not just maneuverability or snare/immobilize as most ap have. Matching the duration to Fiddlesticks seems to be appropriate. The minions actually switch sides, it would be a bit counterproductive if your own lane partner killed the means of your cs.

Concerns on (W)Hex of Atrophy: Providing a higher amount of damage gain in a passive state as such seemed too powerful, being that this is a debuff so all minions/monsters/enemy champions do 10% more damage. A higher amount of slowing potential seemed wrong with as many champs who bring slows or items that cause slows. Hence only 3 ranks for this ability.

Concerns on (Q)Impoverished Hex: This ability may seem lack-luster but! (presuming my math is accurate) Looking at a standard build Yasuo to show the potential, this only goes with base stats the passives are not included (item list found on mobafire).

  • Level 1: double Doran's Blade. 16 ad 160 hp, Rank 1 vs this will only drop this to 15 ad and 152 hp, not much of a hit no.
  • Now we get to Rank 3 and lets presume that Yasuo has done fairly well and has Zeal in addition to the 2 Doran's Blade. 16 ad 160 hp 15% attack speed 20% crit chance 5% movement, after the debuff hits 13 ad 136 hp 12.75% atk spd 17% crit, a bit more painful loss. Though it still doesn't look like much.
  • Final build vs rank 5: Phantom Dancer, Frozen Mallet, Infinity Edge, Guardian Angel, Maw of Malmortius, Mercury's Treads. Original stats followed by debuffed stats in ().
  • Atk Spd 45%(33.75%) Crit Chance 50%(37.5%) Movement Spd 5%(3.75%) AD 155(114.7) HP 700(525) Armor 60(45) MR 110(82.5) CDR 10%(7.5%) Move Enhance 45(33.75)
  • Once the last rank is achieved, the negation to over all item gains becomes almost equivalent to the loss of one full item worth of stats.

Passive and its role: You might wonder at the potential of this ability, wether its weak or powerful, also taking into account the new Rune: Transendance, double dipping here at too high a ratio would hit the power creep issue.

It is quite easy to get 50% CDR with current builds, even with this bump it shouldn't give her too much growth.

(updates pending with the new preseason changes)

@THE RlVER KlNG: indeed you have previously commented on this character concept. I re-posted it after consolidating the information requested by other posters on that thread. I do recall that we both agreed that you made your point and wished each other good luck in future endeavors.

First off, this is a repost, I remember dismantling this concept a while ago.

Simply put Shaeleth has no lane interaction whatsoever. She puts her two Hexes on you and there is nothing you can do about it for 4 minutes. The things Hexes do are also hugely unfair - removing a portion of item stats? Do you understand how unhealthy that would be for the game? A perpetual slow + damage amplification? This would be the epitome of an unfun champion that punishes you for doing nothing wrong. From there she either (for little thematic sense or kit cohesion) enslaves your minions, or, the better option, silences you every 1.5 seconds. With 40% CDR there is a .3 second interval in which you are not silenced so long as Shaelath keeps mashing E. She has no scalings outside of pitiful <25% ones on her E and R and is thus encouraged to build full tank-CDR and then mash E as often as possible to keep someone essentially permasilenced.

Her ult contradicts itself. On cast it removes all instances of Hexes but is stated to deal damage to all champions afflicted with a Hex. So what, you just tag two random people and then deal 400 damage at level 6 to both of them? It is pretty overbearing early game and then falls off hard since her AP scalings are so poor. Her passive tries to alleviate this, but since you can only achieve 45% CDR, the most amount of AP she would ever get is around 79, which isn't all that much since she has no reason to ever build the stat in the first place.

Shaelath has a kit that is at once incredibly boring (she clicks Q and W and hopes her team can focus that person, doing very little on her own and epitomizing invisible and uncounterable power), and also one that has a complete lack of thematic direction. She just doesn't do anything outside of rapidly mash E to keep you permasilenced, which is not healthy at all. (Her spell names are also really cringy and forced, too - "Schism of Rapacity"? That doesn't even pertain to what the skill does, or even make sense in general. Do you even know what the aphotic zone is?)
