CCOS Review: Clipeum, the shield maker.

Champion Name: Brell Champion Title: The Last Templar

Champion Appearance: Brell is a towering knight sporting a tattered set of Demacian Templar armor. Wielding a massive flail with a golden lion’s head at the end as a weapon. Brell also possesses bracers enchanted by the clerics of Demacia that will harness the Templar’s energy to create a shield to protect Brell in combat. Aging, with white hair and beard, Brell stands tall, and is a time-tested knight, fabled for his valor as he led the Demacian elite war machine in their conquests across Valoran.

Lore: Once heralded as the sacred protector of Demacia, the fabled Brell proudly served as a devoted guardian to the Demacian kings until the demise of his beloved king, Jarvan II.

As one of King Jarvan II’s most trusted advisers, Brell lead Demacia’s Knights Templar on their conquest across Valoran. Towering above his adversaries in the fields of battle, little could stand up against Demacia as long as Brell was leading the charge in to the enemy front lines, clearing a path with each swing of his colossal flail.

It is said that after a long expedition to the Freljord where the Templar assisted Avarosa and her Iceborn in defeating The Watchers, Brell and his men marched home to Demacia. As Brell and the legions reached the city’s gates he was met with orders summoning him to the war council to begin preparations to overthrow their long-time enemies, the Noxus.

Upon reaching the council Brell was welcomed by his king with open arms as he, and the war council sought to begin preparations for their march on the Noxian home front. Deliberation carried on through the night, as they finally reached their conclusion the following morning. Outnumbering the Noxus forces ten to one, Demacia would press the attack, bringing the fight to the Noxian front door.

With Brell and his templar leading their crusade, the Demacian war machine would begin their match on Noxus. For months they would overrun and brute force their way through countless battles, sending home word of great tales of their valor and heroic feats which had paved a bloody trail to the front gates of Noxus.

Once at the front gates, the Demacian forces gathered to in preparation for their final battle; the battle that would cripple the Noxian regime once and for all. The formations were set. Brell would lead the heavily armored Templar to the gates as his king remained back, heavily protected behind Demacian lines. Their planning was perfect. Nothing could stop Demacia from reducing their enemies to rubble once they breach the gates, or so they thought.

To their surprise, with the sound of the Noxian war horn, the gates opened up and the Noxus elite military began to pour out in to the field of battle, led by the fearless brute, Sion. With the enemy closing the distance between themselves and Demacia’s king, Brell and his men began their charge, colliding head on with Noxus forces.

For hours blood was shed as bodies began to litter the battlefield, it was then that Brell found himself face to face with the berserker, Sion. Blow after blow was traded as Brell and Sion clashed on the blood-soaked plains. In a maniacal rage Sion drew his massive cleaver above his head, looking to decimate Brell with one overpowering smash, but Brell was able to call forth his shield protecting him from what would have been a fatal strike, causing a shockwave that left Sion stumbling back, fighting to regain balance. It was at that moment that Brell knew he had the upper hand, and it was his time to put an end to Sion’s rampage. Summoning every last bit of his strength, Brell swung his flail around his head and send the lion’s head fixture crashing in to Sion, launching him across the field and in to the side of the Noxian walls.

As Sion’s body fell limp to the ground, Brell gazed back, seeking to ensure the security of his king. It was at that moment he heard the roar. The deep maddening scream of a man possessed. He turned around to see the berserker running full speed at him, smashing in to him as if to be hit by an explosion.

Struggling to maintain consciousness, unable to move, unable to gasp for air, Sion looked down upon Brell with a sinister smirk before taking off once more for the king. It was at that Brell fell unconscious, unable to protect his king from the might of the Noxus. As the battered and exhausted Sion continued his onslaught, cutting down Demacian soldiers, he found his way to Jarvan II, and managed to choke the life out of the king before succumbing to death himself.

The following morning Brell found himself waking up in a tent with Prince Jarvan at his side. With a heavy heart, the prince informed Brell that his Templar had all been slain, and that his king was dead. With that Jarvan III made his way out of the dimly lighted quarters and instructed Brell to get rest. That evening, unable to cope with the loss of everything that had ever given him purpose, Brell snuck out of the encampment and began his journey to Mount Targon, where he would live in exile until he could find atonement for the death of his king.

As decades passed Brell found himself living a humble life in the foothills of the mountain, working in the farm fields and protecting the local farmers from bandits and thieves. The life was not of the glory and valor that had made him a man of myth, but was rewarding in its own rite. One night, as Brell way lying out, gazing at the peak of Mount Targon, he heard an unworldly voice instructing him to make his way to the peak of the mountain. There he will cast aside his inner turmoil; there he will find solace.

For days Brell found himself scaling the walls of the great mountain, battling through harsh weather, seemingly impossible terrain, and creatures that sought to haunt him in the night, until on a night with no moon Brell reached the summit alas! It was at that moment that Brell fell to his knees, exhausted and freezing he felt as though his last breath was drawing near as he gazed over all of Valoran.

As Brell knelt, overlooking all of Valoran, he could sense the aspects amongst him. It was at that moment that cold turned to warm, regret turned to resolute, sorrow turned to solace. Brell felt a warmth within himself he had never felt before, a light burning in his heart. At the moment that Brell reached absolute serenity the light escaped him, like a nova, turning night to day, unveiling the beauty that is Runeterra from the view of the gods.

It was at that moment that Brell knew he had a new purpose. He was to protect the beauty of all of Runeterra. It was his time to proudly fight in the Fields of Justice!
