I feel that the forums might have this more lively atmosphere if we added back our colors to upvoting and downvoting. It will make it much easier to identify a good or bad post rather than look for a tiny negative sign.
Daen3 votesSomething super subtle might be ideal, rather than bright Christmas colors. I don't think it's necessarily an issue right now (there are a lot of other aesthetic things I have a huge issue with), but it could be nice to be able to tell at a glance which posts are positive and negative.

I'm not sure what sort of posting impacts something like this might have, but imagine a situation where the number gets more and more deeply colored (either green or red) depending on the number of votes in either direction. If it's under 5 up/down it would barely be noticeable, whereas something with 700 upvotes would be bright green.

Can I suggest using Gimp? It's like a free (in both senses of the word) version of photoshop. It has a TON of features so it can be difficult to pick up at first, but it makes things like this super easy.

As someone who's made a lot of mockups, I know that making a mockup look as nice as the one OP made, in paint, is really difficult. I was suggesting that OP could get the same/better results, faster, with less effort, using GIMP instead of paint.
It was an honest suggestion, not a slight on OP's work. I haven't decided whether I'd like the idea implemented or not, but the mockup is really nice.
