On the boards I select the "Sort by recent" option, but then the posts are all mixed up and in to order. First post might be X hours ago and then the next one will say 11 minutes ago, please fix!

"Recent" means "recent activity" which includes comments, not just when it was posted. If you want them in order by when they were posted you need to sort by "New".
