It seems kinda funny for me that nobody really gave a shit about his lore before the change, but now people are acting like its the end of the world that it was made completely different. (not an opinion on the new lore, just an opinion on the boards)
People did care, but it was changed. Even when the short bios were revealed, people weren't happy.
It's not really something to talk about all the time. I mean, maybe if someone felt like saying "this old lore is my favorite" or "I like this lore in particular" in some discussion thread randomly, it's not like there were on-going developments to talk about. Varus' lore need development, even most fans who liked the old lore admit that. But we never got any. And never will, because they completely changed it. It's just something to be enjoyed occasionally, or when you hear some of Varus' lines in-game, which I always thought were some of the most intense and cool lines despite only having a few short ones.
So people did care before, they just didn't have any reason to proclaim it all the time.
People have been pitching a fit about champions getting totally rebuilt from the ground up ever since the great retcon (see: Trundle, Karma, ect). This is probably one of the most extreme remakes, so it has garnered a pretty extreme reaction.

Thing is....I never gave a damn about Trundle pre rework. I didnt care about Trundle at all.

I'm a Varus main, I have been reading the lore for years. I play taric, I spam emotes and use animations to have sex in bushes with teammates so I don't really care that there is some gay shit involved now. But what have you guys done to my main? He is 3 persons now. It feels like RITO removes cigars and pushes narratives around so it can't be sued. To the point that you can't no longer identify to a character because there is no more space for who you are. And that identification process really makes the fun to the game. For instance you play Nunu, when you chase people 2HP with the MS boost and are about to E the shit out of them you can really feel the god damn yeti inside yourself and it feels good. When you /all as taric you can chase male champs around saying "let me love you hardstyle". What kind of roleplay is bound to Varus now? Vengeance or "Love is stronger than hate" I'm really confused.
What do you think you should've seen on the board? One thread per week just stating "oh yeah Varus's lore is pretty good it's a little short but still communicates an interesting concept to me and I'm glad it's the way it is." "oh yeah I agree it's pretty good." ?
