Options and *'s

Now, this is just my opinion, but any time I can't have my content left-aligned I can't actually read it.

So.. could there possibly be an option to move the left-hand bar (the one that has a list of boards, option to create a discussion, and guidelines) either to the top or right-hand side of the screen?

[b]And can we use old style tags too?[/b] I really hate how sometimes my *'s go missing if I use *'s too many times in a line..

(e.g. right there-- I do like to use *s in multiple places, for example when I don't know how to spell one of the words I have decided it would be wise for me to use (for whatever arcane reason my brain decided to conjure that day)).

This buggering nonsense--* sometimes I want to make a multi-line long italic, and it doesn't go (see how there are two asteriks (this word, I can't spell it) with text between them, but the text is not italicised?

Really, honestly can't figure out why these 'stars' aren't being converted into italics, yet the others aren't. Both times in this post I have written the shift+8 char, and in one case it gets eaten for italics and in the other it simply doesn't.

If you are looking to use the literal asterisk, you can "escape" the character in markdown by putting a backwards slash in front of it.

\ + * = *

Make sense?

or you could, ya know, just let us use normal html tags to do bold and italics, like normal websites.

I didn't, but that makes sense.

However, my post:

I have no \s in it, BUT I HAVE ASTERISKS.

I have two different lines with the same 'code' in them if you will... and on one line, the * is converted into italics and on the other it is not.

I'm not complaining about the idea, but I'd really rather use square tags since I will actually never need to write "[b]", "[s]", "[i]", "[u]" in a post, but there are situations in which I want to use a *.

Choice is good. I don't like CB's formatting options, though they are more diverse, because it requires using chains of *'s. For example, if I want to write have a list; have the first bit of the list bolded and the rest, including the start in italics?

* *** text1 *** * text2 *. The engine won't let me have the italics 'tag' extend through the entire post, I have to write, effectively, "[i][b] text1 [/b][/i] [i] text2[/i]"-- even though the italics tags are on the outside. It will not let me write "[i][b] text1 [/b] text2 [/i]", at least last time I tried; because any line that starts with a * is interpreted as indentation.

So I have to use more of my limited characters in formatting, which means I will probably have to make my post and then edit it (because that increases the number of characters you can have in a post, evidently).

And.. Why can I not use a single newline? Why do I HAVE to have a real linebreak in my post? Why can't I just start a new line, as though the text from the previous line had kept going? Currently, a single line break does absolutely nothing, since it literally eats a single newline in favor of continuing that text along that same paragraph. Can't I just have a text block that periodically has the sentence start left-aligned even though the last word wouldn't normally reach all the way to force a wrap? I really don't get that.

That entire paragraph has each sentence followed by a newline. -;- It's one paragraph despite that, which forever bugs me. there are many situations in which I want to not have a break in the text, but want it to start back on the left side-- for example, if I'm making a list of numbers! I want the reader to be able to see how the numbers correspond, directly, without having the numbers broken apart-- since in that case the relation is not always going to be 'exactly what is this number', but 'how big is this number compared to this one'; which in my opinion is easier to discern with close-together numbers instead of ones that are broken up.

Though I have tools here, I don't have the ones I want. I can't do a quote-inside-a-quote, which always looked nice to me (except for the 'Originally written' part of the quote tag) on the other forums. I can't use color (which is basically to me the #1 thing I would want, to be able to draw attention without italics or bold, since those can convey different messages, but just highlighting it with color would naturally draw attention to it without saying 'this is stressed' or 'i may not mean this' since I keep seeing those as uses for italics, or 'i want to be loud' for bold).
