This diccusion upvote feature is a complete farce

All you do is see the same threads. If you want anything new you HAVE to change it to recent. Most people also don't even bother to upvote/downvote a thread at all.

You should have recent threads as the default and then an option to see the most popular. And EVEN THEN, that will get cluttered with out of date/unimportant threads because of changes. You would have to constantly make sure a thread is relevant in the "Best" (which I think is a horrible description of it) and remove threads that weren't. It's stupid.

The trick is to generate an army and upvote/downvote certain threads to maintain balance.

Upvoting relevance is definitely a big debate, of which I personally don't have a strong opinion either way.

However, it actually isn't the Forum layout itself that's the problem with the Top "Best's", those are the result of someone going to GD or somewhere else in the old forum and people following a link, upvoting and then leaving. As well as the lack of general voting the Beta has a very (comparatively) small active community with brief bursts of a metric arse ton of people jumping over to support a single thread, resulting in 100+ upvoted posts stagnating at the top. If everyone that I personally see regularly participate in the Beta downvoted every one of them it wouldn't make a dent. Honestly I think we all already have.....

I actually agree that recent should be the default ordering, but honestly it's really not that big of a deal seeing as it's literally 2 clicks and it'll save your setting locally.

If you would like to see the Beta perform exactly like a forum should then provide constructive feedback and come here often to explore bugs, ideas and vote. And bring friends!

If the purpose was to "filter" rants and rage threads, I think that this is even worse than the old solution. When a post reached 10 downvotes on old format it was automatically closed, but as long as people stopped posting in it, it would quickly drop off. So, after next Euw crash and/or massive downtime, when you will have 6 different rage/whine/compensation threads opened with 20 upvotes each, what will you do?
