My updates -- e-mail option?

I am not sure what the technical hurdles would be to set this up, but would an option (turned off by default though) to have notifications sent to your e-mail whenever you receive a message in "My Updates" be something that users would like?

I know I would. Perhaps with some additional flexibility in terms of threads you're "following", or have favorited (upvoted).
