BUMP

Bump, bring up my post, is a common post on the forums. It also does one huge negative for any thread, it creates unappealing clutter. Why not implement a system, where, if your board hasn't been active in 24 hours, the creator can click this button, bumping the board but not posting bump. This will clean up peoples threads and allow anyone who is wanting a discussion about their topic the potential to have one. Yes this can be abused by people creating troll threads but that is why we have admins on here.

You can sort by recently replied to view a version of the boards that's bumpable. Generally the reason we don't globally like bumping is because a huge part of this platform is a focus on relevance.

We believe that the default view of the boards should be the one that is most relevant for viewers so as we build and optimized systems for visibility we are going to do it from the perspective of - how can I make the first few pages of content fresh, relevant and engaging for the person who is reading them.

That naturally means that the balance of influence between the viewer and the poster has changed from forums - where the viewer experience is becoming more and more important which means if the poster wants visibility - the burden is kind of on you to make content that has appeal to others.

The amount of content that gets posted every day (2000~ discussions, and 10k~+ total posts) is far too many for an individual to read through so naturally we're building some methods to prioritize and show people what they're most likely to be interested in. The system is really in its infancy though so I expect over time we'll be able to make pretty substantial improvements

No more than the current system can be. I see literally no downside to implementing this functionality, with something more like a 5 minute cooldown. Anybody who wants to abuse it can abuse the comment bump system just as easily.

A 5 minute cool down is too quick... a 24 hour one makes it so that the person can attempt it once a day, not 288 times per day. Different people come on at different times, so perhaps the people that would like to see this miss the thread. This creates a non spamable alternative that keep the thread nice and neat and doesn't have deleted posts X number of times in a row.

Because Riot doesn't want these boards to be nice.

The downside is that people can pretty clearly see when they join a discussion that no one is really participating in, but who the author is artificially bringing attention to with bump after bump.

Conversely if you made a 'bump' button. One dedicated person could just continue to bump himself to the top with a post no one is really interested in. Sure right now they can too, but people will eventually down vote them when they realize what they are doing and mods can more easily see/detect.

tldr; if your post is interesting and relevant you wont need to bump.

Most people who are helpful on forums actually get to page 4 or 5 or even read most of the unread threads. So if no one responds to your post... maybe it just isnt worthy....
