Increased reply depth and summoner icon fix

RiotKrylhos··6 votes·959 views

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that we just rolled out a small patch to increase the maximum reply depth from 5 replies deep to 8 replies deep.

Likely, we'll increase this even more once we introduce a responsive layout that lets you make more use of wide monitors.

Also, we put out a fix for summoner icons (and a graceful fallback for when they're out of sync between the game and web).

This is just the first update since the initial launch, look for (and expect) rapid iterations and improvements based on feedback!

Thanks!

When you say reply depth, does that mean how long a thread gets before the 'show more' button appears, or something to do with the comment tree system?

Good question, I guess I could have been more clear on that.

By "reply depth", I mean how times can you "reply" before we don't show the "Reply" link.

Ex

1
  2
    3
      4
5 << It would force a flattening here (no more replies)
6 << Now this reply could be you

The reason we have it limited is mostly for presentation purposes, as it can get really confusing (and easy to get lost) when "infinite" replies are allowed.

But I wanna be reply 1337 to something! Man... I am just kidding! Keep up the good work on this project!

How does this make any sense if somebody is trying to have a conversation about.... that whatever thing they are on about, just to have it cut short?

Like, oh hey, I know you were talking to that guy about why Nightblade Irelia has a better ass than Frostblade, but it's 8 posts deep and you'll have to find somewhere else to continue that one.

Or you know, if it was like a serious (boring) conversation.

Thanks for the question,

We've been paying close attention to what a conversation has become when it reaches that level of reply depth, and in almost all cases, it's a digression from the original thread topic.

We're exploring different solutions, such as an option to turn a series of comments that have gone off the beaten path into it's own discussion, because all great ideas deserve visibility, and quite often a great idea about topic "B" came about from discussing topic "A"
