Do we really need a General Discussion board?

I think we all know the current state of the General Discussion forums and I'm already seeing the Boards quickly going the same direction. Simple fact is, I don't think they're really needed at all and just having them around is going to result in a lot of people (Mostly trolls) flooding the area with bad posts and talks about stupid things. And if it were to reach the size of the old General Discussion as well, it's going to be just has hard to moderate and keep respectable.

I honestly think it's just better to have boards with specific jobs and not have one that's basically 'let's talk about what ever the hell we want.'

Agreed with what others are saying, that it makes a nice GD sandbox. However, I'll also add in one more thing:

What Boards needs most right now is people testing it. That won't happen without some of GD migrating over, and GD was just refusing to use anything that looked like reddit, even if it didn't have any reddit functionality. So the GD board is a way of getting GD to come over and get used to boards.

I'll bet that, after using the GD Board, they'll realize they really like a lot of Boards' features and maybe even start using the rest of the site.

yes. it is a nice sandbox for all the people on gd, helping all the other boards be more focused
