PSA: Don't participate in MMR boosting

Within the first few months of a new season, I see a fair share of new discussions from players who were caught in a MMR boosting ban wave (whether they were the Booster or the Boostee), only to try to appeal it under the basis that they won't do it again, or it was only one game/tier/division.

I'm going to get real with you right now.

For starters, most boosters don't care about whether your account gets banned. They can use scripts, they can verbally abuse other players on your account, they can tell other players they are boosting your account, etc. Your account may reach that rank that you've been dreaming of, but it doesn't actually represent your growth as a player, and your account at that rank may very well may be short lived.

No matter how desperately you want to win that series promotion, no matter how much you want this season's Victorious Skin, it's not worth losing your account permanently.

The problems are:

  • Boosters don't care. The streamers make enough cash to buy as many accounts as they want and the risk/reward ratio is high.

  • Anyone who plays this seriously has a second account.

There are thousands if not tens of thousands of players being boosted as we speak, I don't think Riot has the capacity to catch "dynamic boosting" to a point that it can be prevented or even slowed, Riot really dug themselves into a hole for not contemplating their decisions before enabling dynamic que.

YES. Sadly yes. I've known this for a long time.

I don't know if Riot is suffering from some sort of collective corporate cognitive dissonance, or whether it's intentional, but they clearly don't understand not only the level of boosting, but what appears to be a very easily manipulating matchmaking system.

To me, after seeing about 20-500 games, and seeing literally, THE EXACT SAME PATTERNS (3 by the way) of behavior in these types of games, I don't understand why this can't be identified and automated...

My bad, wishful thinking, Riot would rather try to play account "wack-a-mole" instead of trying to solve the major source of boosting. Just like Tyler1 is still playing despite being "perma banned".

they are looking at a solo/duo q ladder through platinum and pure solo from diamond up alongside a dynamic q ladder going from copper to titanium with different rewards. titanium the dynamic equivelant of platinum and the dynamic q ladder will end there. if you want to switch from one to the other you have to do your placements again and end up 1 tier shy of where you were just like the begining of the season. sooooo.....yeah, cheat that dq with your diamond smurf buddies and get boosted now...it wont work so good next season.

That's just full on rumors there. Riot hasn't given the full info on what they are doing for next season yet. They did implement some of their changes though for Diamond and up currently.

The problem with this type of approach is that it's ignoring a more subtle and unfortunate effect on the game's collective consciousness and community as a whole.

It's next to impossible to identify who is a beginner who needs help and encouragement and who is a low life, just screwing your game.

See, this is where they have started believing the BS from the BS "community" on reddit and other places. You think these cheates are not posting to these forums??? Keep helping upper elo, claiming your mmr is accurate, and crapping on the lower elos....

...eventually there won't be enough real players to climb higher.

can you be more clear? I heard about is the solo ladder but is it truly solo or am I still going to matched with premades from the other ladder?

The ladder isn't split. Or it's not supposed to be. Only two different rank names. Trashcan for dynamic/bronze for solo, trashcan2 for dynamic/silver for solo but you are still ranked and getting matched with premades, solos, mmr ranges of 400+

the ladder IS split. the definition of the ladder is the tiers you are climbing.

you have to select solo/duo or dynamic at the start of the season. The Queue is NOT split, as there are already matchmaking and time issues currently, and you will be matched against random compositions of solo/duo and dynamic groups there is only one ranked Q aside from ranked 5's. we all know how shitty q times would be if they split the player pool.

dynamic q ladder goes from copper(bronze) to tiatanium(platinum) and ends there. if you want to continue climbing you have to join the solo q ladder and re do your placements

diamond and above is strictly solo q - i am not sure if there will be duo still or not, but it may be solo only. most of this is technically unconfirmed or finalized...but just like the chroma questionair that went out...riot is pretty set on doing it or something very close to this.

It specifically says ranked games. Can we do this with normal or custom games? Say, for example, a friend owns a champion that I don't. Can I play a normal on their account to see if I like the champion before buying it? Or maybe the same with a skin? Wish I would have done this with battlecast Xerath tbh, had to refund that one.

I mean Riot probably can't tell either way, but still interesting to know their stance on it.

While it's possible you may not be punished specifically for MMR/Elo boosting, account sharing in any way is technically against the ToU and is subject to punishment.

Now, if you simply play a single custom game to test out a champion, Riot probably won't issue a punishment for that, but I'd still say that you should only do so at your own risk. Anything else, though, I say don't do it as it is indeed against the rules.

obviously, cuz rito, on positive side, takes false positives very seriously----that is, if rito thinks there's 0.001% chance an account is legitimately played, they dont ban. So every ban rito does end up being 100% reasonable as u said, but overwhelming majority of elo boosted accounts do not get banned as well.

I did this last year with my friends regularly, we would swap accounts around based on who wanted to play what (as the one with every champion, I often was not playing on my own account during normals), never had any problems. Though to be fair we all lived in the same dorm so it's probably hard to tell...

This is such a waste. No point in doing this, as what makes a rank worth so much to players is that it was earn fairly and with hard work. I have tried my arse off lately to climb and each division I climb feels like a true accomplishment. If someone just walked up to me and gave me a Diamond I might find it cool and surprising but that would shortly pass and it would cease to matter anymore to me. Dont mmr boost as it is never worth the cost and the false victory is short lived and boring.

enemy Kog'maw starts off game with "xxx email need boosts contact tom @eloboost.net" in all chat

when he gets 5.0 attack speed at 22 min, I see him backing up and attacking between EVERY SINGLE ATTACK AT 5.0 ATTACK SPEED.

He gave this gmail at end of game. Perhaps can associate with an account

But that would register as a different ip address so would that be seen as mmr boosting since the system would see it as a different person logging into my account.

While it would be a different ip and mac address i assume the automated system wouldnt flag your account unless your mmr actually went up a bunch.

I played a bunch of games on something other than my home computer travelling and like one would expect, i have not been banned for boosting myself

Nope. The system uses more than just IP address, I know because I play with a laptop and have used MANY different wifi hotspots over the last 5+years, never been pinged even once about it.

The exact criteria used haven't been released, but likely candidates include mouse movement (maybe you tend to idly move the mouse around, someone else might leave it still), summoner spell binding (you put Flash on F, booster uses it on D), and basic skill level (player who got hit by every skillshot in the past suddenly overnight puts Faker to shame when dodging everything). Any one thing isn't enough to trigger it, but when multiple/all of the warning bells get rung, the account suddenly gets tagged for review.

As others have said that is totally fine. If you were to, say, have your ip go from the U.S., to Europe, to the U.S. in a matter of an hour, you would be flagged, and potentially punished. As long as you aren't doing some wierd stuff like putting flash on the opposite key or whatever you'll be perfectly fine

So I have a question about this, perhaps you can answer, I get requests all the time to submit and boost my account, since most of the games in my elo are boosters and their accounts, throwing matches, etc...

Which I'm not going to do, more for moral reasons, however I was wondering about what some companies claim are "legit" duo boosting services, where they don't touch your account, just duo games with you and "carry"

Does riot have any official stance on this?

Whenever people I barely know offer to duo with me I always make sure to let them know, just please don't script in my games, since I don't want to be associated with it.

Could one of these services potentially get me banned if they are cheating in order to 'carry' me up the ladder?

Account boosting can also happen in between friends. I'm no snitch, but i have many friends who boost the accounts of their other friends.

What ever you think is your opinion after that on if they deserve to be on a higher division or not because you don't know them and you don't know in what kind of game they been through. It`s no secret that lol's matchmaking is just bad.

Do you know of any plans to address dynamic queue boosting? There are multiple streamers who advertise that if people subscribe to their stream they'll play with them and boost them to higher divisions.

They aren't friends. People are paying streamers to boost them. If someone subscribes to certain streamers, which costs money, that streamer will play ranked games with them on a smurf and boost them to a higher rank.

There is a whole subreddit dedicated to it, I have submitted several tickets and its being ignored, its smart for a company to put its contractually obligated professional players into a position where they boost people for $$$ for the company, would make sense. Boosting will not stop, for as long as their as contracted pro's.
