I see this being more of an issue for serious off-meta picks.

Just to be blunt, I climbed to Gold with Taric, Jax, and Quinn in the top lane. When picking Taric, despite being an EXCELLENT full-tank duelist that even gets damage from building tanky, I’ve had both intentional bans of my champions and accusations of trolling and threats of reprisal through reporting. I recall one game where the Jungler refused to gank my lane because of this, and it got to the point where the ENEMY TEAM had to stick up for me. Ironically enough, I was doing better than anyone else on my team that game.

So yeah. I know it’s not always obvious whether they banned your champ due to not looking carefully or stuff, but if they’re doing it to impose their own idea of what’s viable on to you, that should be punishable.

Banning away a champion your teammate wants to play breaks the very first rule of the Summoners code.

While we all carry a diverse set of individual ambitions and expectations into a game of League of Legends, once we hit the Field we’re a part of a team. For better or worse, our fates are intertwined with that of our teammates. Once the game gets into full swing, you have to make a choice between being a positive force for your team, or contributing to your own demise.

Being a good team player begins at champion select. Be open minded when considering the needs of your team. If you’re the last one to pick, try to fill a niche in your team that hasn’t already been filled. If everyone’s picked and something stands out as s deficiency in your team composition, try asking for another player to fill the gap, or change roles to embrace that responsibility yourself. Remember, that by taking on a role you don’t normally play, you’ll learn more about unfamiliar champions and increase your own skill level.

Once you get in game, try to keep an open line of communication. Warn your teammates if someone is missing from your lane, or if something is placing them in immediate danger. If they’re not paying attention to chat you can always try pinging the map. Just remember that one ping is enough! Also, remember that you have to be there to contribute, so don’t leave the game or go AFK! Encourage players who are having trouble, and congratulate those who are playing well. And most of all, if you’re having a bad game don’t take it out on your team!

Banning away a champion from your teammate shows that you could care less about their feelings or their skill with that champion or their desire to gain more mastery points. It is offensive and creates tension. They have to wonder if they will be flamed for any mistakes they make, or feel pressured to satisfy someone else on the team to avoid conflicts.

I can totally agree with a ban on a highly used champion that gets frequently picked or banned if your teammate doesn't have an early pick.

But doing it just so they have to play a different champion is going to brew bad air.

I totally support punishing this type of behavior.

After all, you have the decision to not play. You DON'T have the right to decide what your ally is going to play.

And you can still Report this type of behavior without sitting through an entire ranked game and all the bad air it brings.

There are over 100 champions. If banning 1 champion causes a problem there are more issues at hand. Doesn't apply.

I don't own even half of them. I only own about 40 or so. I don't have a real jungle roster.

This account is very immature. I don't have anything to work with and can't trade. I only have so many rune pages and I don't have suitable runes set up for everything. I spent years on the old account collecting everything so this one is limited.

Not everyone has that many champions on their account. My excuse is my main account got banned and I never played on this one unless I had to queue dodge. Another's might be that they only buy the champs they like because it takes time to earn that amount of IP. You can't peg everyone. So if you're saying not having a lot of champions is a personal issue and their own fault...

It does apply.

Your only required to have 20 unlocked to play ranked. How do you know you arent banning the only champion they have for the roll they are playing. That doesnt even count that while there are 100 champions, alot of people dont enjoy or dont know how to play all of them.

You're 100% right - but how do you determine if their only intent was to troll with their ban?

Unless they say 1000 times "i hate u" "play someone else" "fuck x mains" or similar, they can always claim that they didn't want to play with an op champ, they didn't think the champ would fit the team comp, or a number of other reasons for banning the champion.

It is still making the decision to take the right to decide for one's self away from them. And you can't always tell.

I was in Champ select once, and I had Evelynn highlighted as 1st pick of the game.

Another player banned her away and claimed not to know that I was intending on picking them, so I explained how the Role the champion is selected for has an icon over it and the color of the champion portrait is hued.

When we got into the game, they explained to me they thought I was stupid for trying to pick Evelynn and some other things I care not to say here.

I didn't think to report it, but I had a gut instinct that they knew exactly what they were doing. Had they not confessed their true colors in the game, I probably could have reported that just to be on the safe side.

Many people are tricky and sinister. So distinguishing genuine concern from trolling is difficult to do. But getting that report in allows Riot to track behavioral patterns and document instances like this. So the only thing you can do if you feel like you were genuinely targeted like that is to just file a report.

It turned out that the player thought I was going to rage and flame about it, and was almost expecting me to. But I'm reformed. They apologized to me for banning Eve away and trying to instigate.

We had a good game and won.

I understand that it's a problem. And I do think that Riot would likely review someone reported in a large number of games for banning ally hovers out of spite. But it's not something that could be punished based on one or two instances barring extreme proof they were attempting to troll.

It's not something I seek to pursue.

Just play fair. All I pursue is a fun game and the experience I can gain from it. I don't want any trouble.

I'm not trying to hurt anybody else's fun. So why try to kill my fun?

Am I not allowed to have my fun if someone else wants to take away my decisions from me? Isn't that what Autofill is for?

Don't ban away peoples champions just because you don't like them.

How would you feel?

I mean... I hate Teemo with every fiber of my being, but I would never ban Teemo from top just because my teammate highlights him and intends to pick him.

Those would be the worst ganks ever! Dude would literally be salty at me all game knowing that he could be playing his favorite but I took that away from him.

It's a toxic move. It merits documentation. It should be used as points in any investigation.

Doesn't matter. Its not your role therefore not your decision. The intent behind the ban doesn't matter, as long as it was intentional (IE i saw your hover banned it anyway) its a reportable offense. Its absolutely annoying to all end to have strangers try and strong arm your decision and it creates tension.

If I see a person hovering any skill based champ I will search their win rate on said champ and if it's below 45% I will ban it

If I see someone 4/5th pick hovering Gallo when enemy had first pick, there's a 90% chance I'll ban him.

There are perfectly legitimate reasons to ban a teammates hover.

I guess agree to disagree.

IMO you deserve a report any time you do that after an ally has hovered simply because you're taking away from their right to choose. I mean, the purpose of the hover is so your ally can say "hey I plan on playing this".

yes the game has trolls, and new champs, and OP champs after patches; all are reasons why you might not want to see a certain champ in your select. That doesn't mean you can impose your feelings on any other player's pick.

Bottom line is its fucked up to take away the sovereignty of a player and force them out of their pick. If the enemy bans its one thing, but you're just being an ass if you're the ally.

Last but not least its still reportable at the end of the day so you can get punished for it I wouldn't recommend it to other players

I understand banning your allies champion if they are playing Aatrox support or something banworthy. I only said that banning your allied champions is offensive, not that it should never be done.

There was a very lengthy post not too long ago on the subject where I cited all the Riot info about the pick/ban system and how either A.) banning your allies' intent or B.) stealing their role is considered negative attitude and reportable.

it isn't "offensive"...it's at worst "trolling" but even then, is that not the intention most of the time and if they wanna troll are they gonna do it regardless of the bans.
