Quick to Assume

I don't understand why this community is so quick to assume that someone complaining about being "banned for no reason" is lying, but someone who complains about a team "being toxic to them for no reason" is telling the truth. It's pretty cringy to see 10+ thumbs or upvotes or whatever the point system is here on any post saying "omg team so toxic to me i only went 1/4/5 and rest of team over 10 deaths what can i doooo!!!!11!one1" and -10 thumbs on any post saying "omg just got banned for offensive language in a game that i said normal things to me team in"

It's not like rito's punishment system is so infallible or efficient that casting any negative lyte (ohoho puns..) on it is completely out of the question. There are ways to avoid and abuse it, and that happens every day. It's also not like people can troll in subtle ways that don't show up in a kda, like just never grouping with their team or baiting their team into starting fights and then backing off. League is a complicated social game with many ways to troll that don't fit into the specific report categories.

I've never been nor had anyone I know been banned; this blind support of rito is just something I've observed on these boards.

Well here's the thing - Riot has told us that their report system does NOT ban on one offense. It takes a multitude of reports from different games (only 1 counts per game) for a player to get banned. We all have no reason to think otherwise, Riot openly admits to keeping their system secret to avoid abuse but has at least told us this, so why would they lie?

So when these people come on and complain about getting banned because of 1 game, or because of 1 action, etc... then you know they're lying. They must have broken rules and had poor behavior in many more than 1 game to get banned. They simply don't acknowledge their bad attitude. (Not to mention, you can see for yourself how bad of an attitude a lot of players have and never get banned - 95% of players get the no punishment rewards and there's no way 95% of the people you play with in game actually never rage or talk smack etc...).

Now in contrast, you get the people complaining about teams being toxic for no reason. People mostly agree with this because we've all experienced it as a thing. If you get stuck with a 4-man premade (or heck, even a duo) sometimes they just get really toxic. I think the fact that you've noticed this really shows the playerbase's attitude towards group-play (we REALLY WANT the option to have a solo-only queue) and the fact that Riot has deviated the opposite direction (dynamic queues) is really depressing. The player base doesn't want it - sure premades may have more fun but the players stuck with them hate it.

Anyways, side rant aside, most players have experienced that sort of toxicity from a premade. So they're quick to support people who complain about it because they have no reason not to believe them (in contrast to the former where you have good reason to think they're lying) and you remember how shitty you felt after getting trolled by a premade.

Hope that explains it a bit - frankly I don't believe I upvote any of them. I may downvote the occasional 'ban' complaint when it seems particularly bad (specifically when the complaint shows enough language that alone would warrant a ban if said in game).

Because why would someone lie saying other people are toxic? Also there's nothing at stake with those posts. Nothing changes if people believe it or not.

People claiming that they aren't toxic are generally doing so to convince people that their punishment was wrong so they can get it overturned. If they can convince people, namingly riot, that they are innocent they can get out of their ban. Everyone gets chat logs with punishments now, so if they aren't included in a post then their word is suspect at best. The overwhelming majority of "I was banned" posts end up being either someone retaliating thinking that was ok(usually claiming it was defending themselves) or someone disagreeing with what is punishable.

The punishment system isn't infallible but it does have an extremely low false positive rate. It isn't all encompassing and it is weak in the troll department as you mentioned. Trolling is in many cases subtle and frequently involves doing things that are completely fine in some situations so it will likely always be under detected but that doesn't have any baring on its effectiveness in the chat department.

It isn't blind support just because you can't see the reasons why people support riot(or disagree with those reasons).

And for some of us, it's experience. Those of us who have stuck around since the old PB and TBI forums have seen far more people who either can't tell their behavior is problematic, or lie about it, that we tend towards skepticism when people try to claim innocence in a ban.

I've probably seen several hundred claims over the past few years, and I can count on one hand the number of behavioral permabans I can remember being reversed as false.

So if we call out someone claiming to have been banned for only one game, it's because we've seen far too many claims that turned out to be valid bans to simple believe the claims.
