I can't believe I have to say this, but it just happened last game on one of my smurf accounts.

It's not funny. You will be taken seriously. It doesn't matter what context it's in or that you're "anonymous by being online."

I gave an extra report to riot support and will be contacting the police in 48 ours if they don't respond or I get some automated response. (they said they were planning to do it next week.)

The vast majority of school shootings have warning signs or they tell people they are planning it beforehand.

**If you see this behavior in your games, "joke or not", immediately report them and send a ticket to player support. **

Fking. Unacceptable.

EDIT: Riot responded to the ticket and is obviously unable to share any further information. But I'm sure they will handle it from here.

Common, the Sense

Passive: Whenever the enemy team is grouped, at full health and have all their CDs up, Common is not able to get closer than X units from them alone. X being the range of their engage with 300 units added on top of it. When their team is weakened or outnumbered, Common gets bonus movement speed and AD.

Q: Passive: Pings are twice as big and loud, specially MIA pings from the lane of the enemy Katarina. Active: if a teammate pinged to retreat, back away, danger or mia, you can activate this ability to get a burst of movement speed towards your nexus.

W: Common throws a knife at his target dealing tons of damage. This ability can't target tanks or invulnerable champions.

E: Every 10 seconds, the mini map will announce which champions are visible and where they are. It will start by saying which ones are MIA and in which direction they were headed.

R: Passive: Uppon leveling this ability, you put items in your teams slots. At lv 1, you give everyone a pink ward. At level 2, you put a item 2049 in the supports slots. At lv 3, upgrades it to item 2045 . This ability can be leveled up at any level. Active: You press it and 1/2/3 important locations near you will be warded. Enemies walking into these wards vision range make obnoxious noises to force you look at them.

There have been cases in the past where 50+ people witnessed a murder in an office building window and everyone assumed someone else had called the police but nobody did. So the culprit got away because it took an hour for anyone to notify the police.

Even if it seems like someone else has reported a crime always call it in just in case. If they are aware of the situation they will let you know.

Yeah I heard about that one. Humanity is really disgusting when you lose identity as an individual for the profit of a group. This is why I try to avoid being with the same people too often.

There's also a guy who speaks a lot about how the human brain works. He's called Derren Brown, he did a documentary about mob mentality. Fake or not, the whole video is believable and this is what disgust me:

From the article, it sounds like the threat was posted on facebook after the league of legends game. Finding someone through their facebook account doesn't exactly take a great deal of effort.

Years ago for Starcraft I had something similar. It was slightly different because the guy emailed me too, but yeah, called the police, they were able to coordinate with police in his area, find him, and get him some help (he was hearing voices telling him to kill others). The police even let me know after they had him that they had indeed found him, so there was the follow up.

I can only imagine that law enforcement has gotten better at this kind of thing that they were 10 years ago when this happened.

Tbh, it's not acceptable. However it's no different than saying you're going to perform a lynching or kill someones mother. Which honestly happens all the time in League, and is surprisingly met with responses of "get thicker skin" as this game is the underbelly of the internet.

I don't take it anymore seriously than those threats, so while you're "calling the police" etc... I kind of snickered at your hypocrisy of other things that are said in this game that you wouldn't call the police for.

It really depends on the scenario, if someone says "I'm going to fucking kill someone" probably just venting rage. If they say "I'm going to shoot up UCLA next week" that is very worrying.

Yeah and when someone says, "I fucking hate black people, I'm part of the KKK and we're going to do a lynching" that's also worrying. However you will find no solace here on the boards on topics like that, mostly because half the boards is legitimately racist.

Ever been on Twitch chat? There is some of the most racist violent threats i've ever seen. From people saying they will go around killing Muslims in their communities to hurting children. Nobody bats a fucking eye. Except now it hits home for you and you're concerned.

Well we can all play that game too, and there's no school shootings where I'm from, so no I'm not particularly worried about those threats, and I take them with the same grain of salt I see everywhere else.

That's called a straw man argument, no one has all of those qualities (most certainly not me) so you just attributed a false set of characteristics to me to try to sway people to your side. Personally for me if someone emphasizes details of a violent act I would report it.

You are doing it again, there is a difference between calling the police and reporting it. If they gave me every detail down to the city I would call the police in that city, otherwise I would just submit a ticket/a detailed report and let riot handle it.

When have I said i'm against reporting it? Reading comprehension. I merely stating it's the hypocrisy that's actually causing more harm than good.

Picking and choosing which extreme behavior is worth actual police involvement is no making anyone take these threats more seriously, it's more of a show of what trigger warnings you.

If you read my last statement it was/or should of been extremely clear that's my point especially the part where I say I do not condone this behavior.

I think it's funny how people make bomb jokes/threats 24/7 online, when there are innocent people's families being bombed around the world and it's no joke to them.

Back on topic I don't "pick and choose" I try to report what I consider excessively dangerous. This doesn't mean I call the cops if someone says they are going to kill my parents or something childish. It just means that if I hear something that is explicitly defined (aka someone says they will be shooting up ucla next week in x building) I will call the cops as that is very defined and has perceived merit behind it.

Excuse me if I was being curt, but I was not implying that you condone this behavior at all. Nor was I implying that it shouldn't be punished. I just found irony in the fact, that someone would go out of their way to contact police officers for something that happens ( and I think I can make this with safe assumption) every second on the internet.

This was more about me saying "let's put a stop to all behavior and realize how extreme behavior is not ok" rather than " this particular topic hits home for me so i'm calling the police"

I think the difference between "I'm going to find you and shoot you" and "I'm going to shoot up this school" is the fact that they actually CAN shoot up any number of schools probably around them. Clearly, they have no idea where I live, so that in fact is an empty threat. There is absolutely nothing wrong in taking precautions against a claim like this on the off chance the person was serious.

You risk not doing anything and having plenty of people killed/hurt in the process just because "it's online it was probably just a joke."

Well out of the 20 school shootings last year, 12 gave hints about what they were going to do beforehand. This includes anonymous posts online, facebook, hinting to close friends, etc. This isn't a joking subject, considering I was at one of the shootings I really would've liked it if someone had told the police before I was 50 yards away from a crazy with a gun.

how can you predict something like this??? it's unreal to actually stop this before it happends. but i can tell you what will happen 100%. you will ruin someone's life. And this happends, over a video game:)..

You seem to be missing the fact that no one has to make threats online. They are just suffering the consequences of their actions if they have repercussions after they threaten to kill people. Doesn't really matter if they were joking or not, its in very poor taste to take school shooting and terrorists acts lightly.
