Stop Rank Discrimination

Now, generally, this would be written by someone Bronze or Silver who just got finished in a game that they were being harassed for their low rank.

This isn't the case. Last season, I placed Diamond, so I enter games with a diamond border.

When I don't do well in a game, (which I can definitely say I have been playing horrible today,) then I get harassed and ridiculed to no end, with snarky comments like, "which boosting service did you use," and, "who boosted you to diamond."

While it might seem like fun and games to the person saying it, you're insulting the time and effort I put into this game and trying to get good at it.

My diamond border isn't an indication that I'm some League of Legends god who is immune to feeding his lane opponent.

If anything, it proves that I'm human - I have goals and hobbies, and as a human, I'll make mistakes. I'm not perfect like you make me out to be.

So please. Don't be a dick. I don't care where you placed, or where I placed. All I care about is the way you're treating me because of your assumption you make in the 20 minutes that you know me.

I understand that this community is full of toxic asshats who thrive off of other people's embarrassment and misery. But this is just a heads up to those who are unaware that I really hate being held to standards that I really can't uphold 24/7.

Sincerely, Spinning Axes, a simple LoL player.

EDIT: It's really great to hear your guys' support on the issue. I'm trying to read all of the comments, but it's hard to stay caught up!

A question I'd like to ask: Is rank discrimination a reportable offense? I recently answered a comment asking the same question, saying that I think it goes over the scope of gameplay and you're beginning to attack the players morales and goals rather than their gameplay. What do you guys think?

EDIT 2: 100 Upvotes and 2K views! Wow, thanks for the support on the thread. I honestly created this out of frustration and expected to be downvoted because people would think I was a whiny kid.

Thank you guys for the support, this is truly a major problem that is overlooked a lot of the time in our community.

Yeah, I totally get that. I'm in plat currently but when I play normals, i usually play with one of my lower elo friends. Whenever I do poorly I get harassed by randies on my team and the enemy team for not carrying every game. I main support so if I'm playing a new champ in a new role in a non-competitive environment, yeah I probably won't do that well. Lowbies will always try to find a way to blame their lack of high ranking on some external explanation. Harassing better players by insinuating they aren't good for being plat/diamond tries to reaffirm their self-image of diamond stuck in bronze.

When you play bad, a lot of players will say anything to hurt you. If you are below them you are a "Place league name here" scrub. Above or same league as them, you are boosted.

I don't think the problem is that they don't comprehend you are not perfect. If they want to be toxic, they will be.

Low elo playing bringing you down to make themselves feel better about their garbage ranks. Welcome to humanity. You're like a celebrity to them. They'll watch/judge your every step just to find a flaw and be able to tell their low elo friends how that diamond guy was totally garbage and way worse than themselves.

Luckily most people understand that everyone can learn new champions or have a bad game.

This thread is more entertaining than the discussions in my classes....and I'm a sociology major...

Its not that I don;t agree with this thread, but here's how I see it in this community.

Lower elo players aren't allowed to judge or make fun of higher elo players, skill or accomplishments.

yet Higher elo players will attack and point out a lower elo's rank the minute they make a balance suggestion. (IE LOL your bronze your not allowed to talk about balance arguments.)

In the end it comes down to respecting one another skill levels, and yes what you posted is true and discrimination from lower elo's is wrong, I can;t say I blame them because a lot of higher elos attack the lower elo players based on their skill level as well.

Respect is a 2 way road and must be shared by both parties in order for discrimination to stop.

It works the other way too. Had a game where as soon as we got in champ select our adc asked us to state our ranks. He was plat, and everyone else was silver/bronze. He complained "oh god, you're all awful", then flamed us the whole game about how shitty we were and how we should uninstall. When actually, we were carrying his 0/6/1 ass to victory. Funny how that works.

You are the proof that humility exists.

Okay so here's the thing :

Am I saying people are justified for behaving in this fashion? NO.

Are you justified in saying that you expect to be treated nicely because there is a real human being behind your on screen avatar? NO.

Do I want to live in a world where there are endless types of discrimination? NO.

So here it is :

When you encounter real and valid forms of discrimination such as racial or homophobic slurs or 15 year old kid telling you to drink a gallon of bleach report them to improve the community.

No matter what you do people will find a way to tear you down. They will tell you your a tryhard, you suck, your a bronze scrub, or you use an elo boosting service.

Develop some thick skin. Find a way to use these things as motivation and become a better person for it than, move on.

Adversity exists in every facet in life, you can't change it and you cannot avoid it.

sounds counter productive, however, I find that if I'm not in a 5 man pre made and in a call. it's better to simply mute everyone and play with pings. keeps me from tilting off other peoples bad attitude when the game is still totally winnable. It actually helps a lot of comebacks. I used to rage like crazy until i started doing this at people raging at other people, but it really is better to simply ignore it and play the game the way you know it should be played. just my opinion though. I know it's definitely helpful to communicate if people are able to be civil. I just don't trust the community to do so anymore sadly. especially at certain times of day when the youngins are out of school acting a fool.

The reason why Rank Discrimination exists is because of lower level elos who cannot handle or comprehend that someone is better than them at League of Legends thus assuming you are boosted even if you are much higher rated than them but they are duo with their friend.

Then you 1v1 them, destroy them and they block you off their friends list because their embaressed.

Then you go into games and get instant hostility from players pointing out tiny mistakes they make when they are AD blitzcrank with AP runes and full armor masteries...

That's why high elo players make fun of low elos, go smurf up low elo and you will find there a lot more arrogant, ignorant and down right not smart low elos, that are eager to judge everyone elses mistake, yet they refuse to actually learn or take any constructive criticism without raging.

It's not just me who feel this way, many streamers like imaQTPie, Sneaky, Meteos, Gore, and Nightblu3(behidn closed doors) laugh at low elos constantly and some even call them straight retarded.

I literally get camped every single game no matter what lane I go to because I have a diamond border and the others in my team don't.

"This guy is a diamond. we must camp his lane or he will carry."

"which boosting service did you use," and, "who boosted you to diamond."

Oh, another one of these guys, please ask Riot to confirm you were not boosted, then I will believe.
