Is there any way to disable your ability to respond to people?

Is there any way to disable your keyboard in games, I mean totally disable your keyboard. My account has been suspended (about time, but still sadface) because I cannot control myself from screaming bloody murder over the people that troll in ranked games. Yes I'm a bronze lifer, but seriously I'm sick and beyond sick of...(no no..must shut up)....is there any way to disable my keyboard in games? its not other people talking to me that gets me in trouble its me talking to others. I know the easy answer is (show self control) well apparently I just can't. Is there anyone in riot that know the programing that can tell me if there's a way to go into the program and disable my ability to open my text window?

But really, if it is that bad, why not just stick to single player games?

*Disclaimer: not 100% sure if legal, might want to check with Rito support before actually using it

bind your enter key to your flash key.

why are people asking for the ability to turn off chat treated with such contempt? they are litterally begging for help as opposed to just being banned and discarded

Unplug your keyboard

It should be within your ability to restrain yourself from hitting the Enter key. If it's hard to do with just a mental effort, you can resort to more physical methods.

If you're having too much difficulty with self-control, you could try changing the required actions instead. One method that could help you break the habit of responding is to rebind the chat key to something hard or awkward to reach, such as ~ or =. The point is to break up the normal pattern so you have to think about what you're doing, so really any key should work as long as it's different.

If that's still not enough, you can unbind the key entirely. In order to respond to someone, you'd have to open up the settings and set the keybind again; plenty of time to think about whether what you're going to say is stupid or not.

The only semi-useful solution I can offer is to rebind your chat key at the start of the game. Hopefully it will be enough to discourage you while you're playing. The time taken to stop, go back in and rebind your chat key might be just enough for you to get past that flash of anger that comes.

I, like others here and elsewhere, would really like an option to disable your own chat or at least the ability to turn chat off before you enter a game with the option only being changeable once you start another game. That way you can disable it before a game and not have to worry about raging. For me personally I have some anger issues but I will never troll no matter how upset I get in a game. Trolling and toxic chat are treated the same though so if I ever get punished I will be in the same boat as those that go afk or intentionally feed with a punishment on my account.

To those saying to learn self-control it isn't that simple. You are offering the equivalent of "cheer up" to a depressed person. If it was that simple they would have done it already. Your ability and self-control has no bearing on another person's and shouldn't come into it.

"Its a Game" is a common excuse I hear from people, one that drives me crazy. People can talk all they want about how "its a game" but they don't call it E-Games they call it E-Sports. the very Nature of LoL is compete. So like basketball, football, hockey and a variety of sports out there (read things more civilized than then Gladitorial games of ancient times) winning and losing is DEADLY SERIOUS. you do NOT walk up to a fan of a sports team and tell them you think their team is garbage, you don't pull the plug on his TV in the middle of the game.

We have been competing with each other since we arrived / evolved on this planet, you expect to take all those generations of competive nature and just toss them out the window overnight.

LoL brings that competetive nature of people right to the to the front, because not only are there teams, but you are involved in your own team and your own standing. As long as LoL continues to award winners with ANYTHING over losers (as long as there ARE winners and losers), there's going to be people who are going to take winning very seriously when they are placed with people that don't care to do their best, as well they SHOULD. Every generation has children that come home broken hearted crying their eyes out because they lost a game, every generation tells those children to stop crying that it just a game as some lame way to make them feel better, only to have those very adults fly off the handle when they lose.

Sorry dude. I'm true to my species (aka human) I don't like to lose, if its my fault I can swallow it, but the nature of ranked is that there shouldn't be people there that aren't serious about winning, and in all other formats they don't need to be serious but it should at least be a goal.

I AM ASKING FOR HELP HERE, and I've seen one useful comment, other than that's its been pity, disgust, and peternal pats on the head and being told to grow up. Just like in the game nobody wants to provide CONSTRUCTIVE information. If your just here to tote your own superiority of self-control over mine, fine, I applaud you. now take it somewhere else. I an addict and I got a problem, either say something helpful or go away.

No, but... You can change your key binding in the settings. Set your "Chat" key to a key you have to go out your way to press, like "+" or "Pause/Break".

OR, you could just not play Ranked. I tried it myself, and personally just find it to be League of Legends - Fun. In Ranked, you do anything, anything at all, to win at the expense of actually enjoying yourself, because winning is the fun there. You put yourself through a living fucking hell just to have bragging rights.

Colgate Gator6/6/2016, 6:03:51 PM1 votes

It's called self control, yeah.

If that's such an unreachable method to fathom, you have bigger concerns than being punished in LoL.

LazyW0lf6/6/2016, 7:18:28 PM1 votes

I would definitely suggest binding your chat key to ~ or Pause Break and turning off all chat. Another option for people who have gaming keyboards (Like the Razer Blackwidow) is that they have built in "Gaming modes" that disable the Windows key. If you have a keyboard that does that, bind your chat binding to the windows key and turn on gaming mode. Then you have to actively turn off gaming mode in order to type.

redniwediS6/6/2016, 5:15:23 AM1 votes

You mean besides putting in the time and effort required to get some self control, instead of putting all that time and effort into a video game?

Try muting them. I believe this keeps them from reading your messages.

Is there any way to disable your ability to respond to people?

Yes there is ! Don't respond !

Troll Armada6/6/2016, 5:33:56 AM1 votes

you can type ' /mute all ' but then how will you teach those players who are toxic a lesson?

Learn some self control....Follow summoners code or get out. People like you are the reason the community is trash.

Flaming Tribble6/6/2016, 7:46:43 AM1 votes

IM the reason the community is TRASH? its RANKED dude RANKED. if ur going to BAN peoples picks, stupidly FEED by making the same mistake again and again, without learning. if your going to ignore ur own teammates when they ping warnings to you, when ur not going to call people missing, when...OH GOSH your going to freaking sucidie dive bomb 4 people solo and get killed. people that want to FEED early with the idea that the enemy team will give us an opening later and not spank us with the inch that we give them, they want to win just as badly as us, why on EARTH would they say, oh well the team is being stupid I guess ill go easy on them cuase their dumb.....what, I'm just supposed to sit back and take it? you want me to just bend over and let people nail me? so heck yes I complain, and because I complain people report me. The community isn't screwed up because people like me, its screw up because there aren't enough. people that don't want to take the game seriously need to axed and axed hard.

and yes, this is why I need a self mute button, cuase its HARD, REALLY REALLY HARD, to just stand there and take it, your team feeds and screws you, now what? I'm not god, I can't make up for 2 people who want to work us over, its hard enough to make up for 1. Sometimes even before the game begins, (like when some troll bans someone's pick out of spite or just plain not paying attention) you know the game is going to go south hard.

Time is precious, I prefer not to have my wasted by people that won't take the game seriously, but once its started I can't just Quit, because ill get reported for THAT too. So here you are trapped in a losing game, with a team of die hards that want to hold off on the hope that at some point the enemy team will screw up (and why should they screw up? their not bots, they want to win too) or someone will DC and we'll pull a victory out of our hats somehow.

So I can't go afk, I can't complain, I gotta just sit there and keep trying to win something that's almost unwinnable. So yes its VERY hard to keep my mouth shut and not royally work people over for giving me 40 min of hell for nothing, beucase there's nothing else I can do.

don't get me wrong. I don't need to win all my games. I just get as much enjoyment out of a good loss as I do a smashing victory.

First and foremost never forget the one thing that people almost always forget - this is a game. It is intended for entertainment and enjoyment. Even on the losing side of things, you can still find ways to enjoy yourself, be it getting funky with itemization or trying new warding techniques or even different skill rotations. There are ways to make lemonade out of sour lemons. The second most important thing to remember is that LP is just a number. It will rise, it will fall; Sure, your rank is bound to it, but as soon as people stop having nervous fits about the direction that little number is going to go and focus on the game, they can improve and be free of self inflicted crippling pressure and worry. The most impossible obstacle in this situation is yourself and the pressure and limitations you set upon yourself. When you can learn to break those limitations and just play the game, your mood will get better, you won't be so inclined to rage, and your games will improve because you'll be open to learning. So work on these things and you will go above and move past your hurdles and won't need to self punish.
