Sylas Support Public Service Announcement.
So I went into a queue wanting to practice Braum as support when I came across another player who landed himself in the adc role. He asked if he could swap roles with me. An odd request but I've played a lot of twitch, I knew how to play him so I said sure. He locks in Sylas. Now normally a weak willed man would whine about how it's a terrible pick and could never work. But Given how weird and wacky things can get in league it wasn't the worst thing he could have picked. CC supports are pretty good with twitch so surely this would work out in our favor.
We get in game and it took me a while. I was patient, I didn't say anything. But after his aggressive playstyle against a neeko/jarvan bot lane I called him out on playing so aggressive and continuing to get himself killed. I died trying to help him out a few times as well, but I would have been better off running away rather than going in with him. I knew better but I thought early on "hey, surely this guy knows what he's doing".
I invite all of you, who want to play Sylas support to feel free to use the champ you purchased in whatever way you see fit. League is starting to get back to the point where you can get pretty creative with builds and playstyles. There's no reason not to experiment and try out an idea you might have. I only ask that if you are going to play Sylas support. That you understand how to play as a support, that you understand matchups in the botlane, communicate with your adc, and either mention how you are going to play aggressive so they can go in when you do instead of going in after you've already blown your load.
If you're new to a role, and want to get into it that's fine, but it's generally a better idea to learn a more traditional "support" sort of champion before going into something more experimental. I've done stupid stuff before. I thought talon jungle would be a good idea but realistically he can't do damage fast enough to compete with champs like kha zix, and he doesn't have the cc essential for helping your team take somebody down like rammus, or volibear.
And if you see somebody picking sylas in the support role, I'm not saying you should dodge the game, I'm saying you should get ready to be on autopilot of he doesn't do so well.
