5.21 - Report System & Unskilled player

Hey Riot,

Disclaimer : In no way, shape or form do I think that being unskilled is or should be a bannable offense, so let's get that out of the way.

So, I welcome the new interface of the report system, it's great sometimes it was hard to classify what someone exaclty had done and broader category makes that less of a probelm. Good Job, keep on.

The only thing I regret is that the "unskilled player" tag was removed. As said in the disclaimer, I don't recommend anyone being banned or suspended for being unskilled, but I still think that it was a great way to implement some kind of discretion to the MMR calculation. As a purely analytical calculation based on your win %, MMR is flawed. I'm not going to enter into the whole "elo hell" controversy but let's just say that it takes a LOT of game before your MMR reflect your skills. Ofc skill is a relative notion, a plat player would be "unskilled" in master but a god in bronze so I understand how tricky it is.

But I Think that a way in the postgame to influence other player MMR could help alievate that (that would be nice if you could even say that someone is skilled, people kind of use the honorable opponent for that but 1) someone can be skilled but a jerk and 2) honorable opponent does nothing for your MMR)

Regards

The only thing the unskilled player report was used for was matchmaking and the matchmaking algorithms have improved. There's no need for the unskilled player report anymore, just use one of the other report categories and explain the reason for your report in the box below.

I would have left it in purely as a dummy option that does nothing, to allow those people who just have to report someone for sucking a way to feel like they're venting their anger, but in a way that doesn't really do anything.

Misread the post. Disregard this.

If I recall correctly, all the Unskilled Player selection did was make it less likely for your to encounter that specific player again.

I miss the Unskilled Player category. Why? Because let's say you're playing with someone who says that mid is a duo lane when clearly it's a solo lane. And they get all up in your face about it. New players will be new players, but that doesn't exactly mean that others shouldn't know how to correctly play the game. They have to know their lanes and which roles go where.

^ Basically why the Unskilled Player should have stayed but be reworked somehow

I liked the "unskilled player" for cases where someone fed horribly but you couldn't say for sure that they did so on purpose. Last time I had a Nunu in ARAM, for example, who positioned like a tank, but built sort-of-AP and a Talisman of Ascension. He could've been fine if he'd played more from the back, or if he had built tanky, but now he was just an easy kill for the enemy team.

I agree that this shouldn't lead to punishment, except maybe in cases where players use it to signal possible account-boosting, but it was a way to tell someone "dude, maybe watch some youtubes". It was also a way to tell the system that, hey, maybe the others on the team report this player for feeding, but I don't think that was the case.

Good Riddance:

Players who think wards are a waste of gold, don't farm, don't push lanes, never attack turrets, and spend the whole game chasing kills and throwing away any advantage the team gets should never be referring to anyone else as "unskilled".

Most players who enjoy reporting other players have no idea what real skill is. If they did, they wouldn't be blaming their teammates for their own mistakes in the first place.

I won't miss being a 0/3/32 support Janna and hearing my team say "Janna no kills noob report for unskilled!" because I'm frantically fighting superminions off of our nexus while the team is chasing the enemy Ahri through an unwarded part of the jungle.
