Issue w/ the remake system

So, I queue up w/ a friend and we get into lobby. We pick our champs, and load in. When we get to the rift, sivir hadn't connected yet. So we waited, then she reconnected, then disconnected 5 seconds later. @ 3 minutes, we tried to remake but couldn't because she had been in the game. Literally a waste of LP and my friend got demoted b/c of it. I thought the remake system was created to avoid this. Is there any way of fixing it?
