Why do people give up so fast? Is there some psychological reward to it?

Often, it feels like a race to see whom will give up first. I don't have to explain it. You know what I'm talking about.

It is incredibly rare that I agree with a Surrender vote, much less start one. The thought of surrendering early is almost unthinkable to me, but people do it all the time.

The last time I, personally, voted Surrender because I thought it was hopeless with 15-1 against us, we ended up winning anyway. Go Silver.

But why do people seem so quick to say "I'm done" or "gg" when it very obviously is not the end of the game? What's the mentality behind that? What's the point of giving up and voting surrender when it's obviously not even close to decided? (Especially in low elo where people legit are capable of throwing completely regardless of how ahead they are.)

Giving up is why many are stuck in low Elo assuming games are lost when you’re fighting people who throw all the time is how you lose. I’ve been in a lot of games I thot we’d lose and come back cuz their 11-1 ADC decides to throw by never positioning right or getting caught. I might be bias because I’ve gotten a few accounts into diamond but I would never FF and you’d be surprised how many terrible games I’ve salvaged. But I get it. It’s not fun to play from behind. It’s not fun to lose. But I always try. I will FF norms tho cuz they don’t matter I’ll agree there

People go into games assuming that they're the best player in the game and they're going to solo carry. It's all about them. It's do or die. So, when that doesn't happen and they start struggling, they just give up instead of looking for ways to still win with the help of the rest of their team.

the games supposed to be fun not a chore. If the match is bad why not start again. I dont surrender often but i get the logic.

I'd rather move on to the next game than pray for "wow they sucked and threw."

I've played a few games on RU and OCE servers. OCE players seem to give up at about the same rate (though they seem less inclined to surrender in an ARAM).

In my I've hardly had any surrenders on the Russian server.

Just my experience, YMMV.

As to why? I dunno, maybe they find the challenge of being the underdog rewarding. I do. -shrug-
