As a jungler, what are you supposed to do when a laner abandons their lane to take your monsters?

I dunno if you know what I mean. It's when a laner chooses to abandon their lane and jungle, even though you're the jungler and desperately need those smite bonuses (aside from the obvious xp and gold of which they get a fraction).

Sometimes they do this to rage at you and keep your team from winning, sometimes they do it because they can't even stay in their lane anymore and don't realize what they're doing is disastrously detrimental. Either way, it leaves the whole team in a horrible spot, and the jungler in an impossible position.

You can sort of guard their lane for a while, but that hardly makes up for the lack of smite bonuses you need so badly to be effective. It doesn't tend to work out.

So how do you even handle this, especially if they're doing it just to rage at their own team, or even worse, if they blame the jungler for them losing their lane, and not even allowing the rest of the team the grace of a try at a comeback?

Abandon your monsters to cover their lane. Simple really

That only applies if they are truly abandoning their lane (as in their is a wave of enemy minions to be farmed that they would rather skip in order to steal your monsters). if it is a power farm champion like a Karthus or Orianna, they will usually farm ever living creature in sight, and you should be friendly and let them.

If they can't manage to bunker down in their own lane to defensively farm, maybe the answer is to try and ease the pressure on them with more ganks? Don't have to get kills just scare the enemy off, make them be more cautious and take some bite off your laner ally.

Or hell maybe porpose to them that they steal the enemy jungler's monsters instead?

If it's rage, i would just stay in their lane...get cs, soak up xp.

However, sometimes, it's fair for the midlaner to push to turret, come back, take raptors, and go back to lane. This is normal and to be expected. The jungle has enough creeps to keep the jungler busy even if they are missing one camp.

Take their lane.

Solution? Invade enemy jungle. Bring lots of wards such as item 2049 to keep you alive longer.

Smite your monster before it dies then tax their lane, counter jungle, gank another lane

You mute them, go to their lane, and keep a few tabs on monster buffs you like. Let the wave push to you, like you would when playing say, Nasus. Also, when your buffs are going to spawn, I'd just leave lane to go get those right away. Your smite > whatever the hell they are attempting to steal it with. They'll have more trouble than you too, since they don't have an upgraded machete.

You can always smite to steal monsters back when you can, and go to a camp right as it spawns before they get there. Might give them the idea that they should go back in lane.

If they're really not gonna budge, I'd personally report them at the end, since they are actually hurting your team more than helping it.

I've never personally had that happen to me (worst I've had is some adc try and take a buff during laning phase without saying a word), but I'd probably rotate through their lane if it's possible and soak the cs there. Better to get something out of an empty lane then let it all go to waste.

Best I can picture is trying to make the best out of them being a jerk.

There are a couple things I like to do.

  • Apply pressure to the other side of the map and get the other lanes rolling. This could also force the opposing laner to respond, giving your laner a bit of a break. Also, if you can get a good lead going, you can counter-jungle the buffs that your losing lane takes.
  • If the other solo-lane is crushing it, suggest that they swap.
  • If you are really far ahead, camp that lane for delicious shut-down gold.
  • Get your solo-laner from the lane that isn't losing hard, to roam with you. Alternatively, have the losing laner group and roam with you to attempt to get them back into it.

What I Like to do is take the small minions in the camps since they still give decent gold and the big ones benefits the jungler more then me.

The forester has no problem coming to my lane to take gold, whats so wrong with returning the favor?

Sirin Gioro5/1/2015, 3:11:15 PM1 votes

Either he's getting shit on in lane or he's trolling you for whatever reason. Smite the big monsters if he's doing it with you. :^)

But if I don't steal my jungler's camps, how else am I supposed to get Devourer stacks.

Sirsir5/1/2015, 6:38:16 PM1 votes

If I'm the tank I tell them to stay away from Gromp. I'm generally too busy ganking and if they need that to catch up it doesn't bother me a great deal. If we are so far behind that I CAN'T gank anymore then it probably doesn't matter that much anyways.

As a farm jungler I can either outburst them, and/or they use all their mana leaving me to free farm the rest of the jungle.

Ofc if its a troll thing I start counterjungling as much as possible and use them for bait :3

Drunk Rummate5/1/2015, 7:21:24 PM1 votes

If they're letting minions crash into their turret make sure you get those. You gain more exp and gold from lane minions than jungle farming anyways so this is a net benefit to you and net loss to them.

If they're doing it efficiently and not losing minions to turret then you may as well make the best of it. Don't try to screw them over to get back at them for screwing with you, that just makes it worse. Instead just take the opportunity to gank a lane and soak a little exp and gold every time you do it, maybe get a kill. If you force people out of their lanes then try to get your teammates to help you invade your enemy jungler and take their farm.

lane gold > jungle gold...

You may miss buffs, or raptor sight, or tankiness from grump, but given the choice of laning vs jungle, laning will give you more xp and gold in a shorter period of time. The really disastrous thing in this is the person whose left the lane to farm your jungle is only going to be further behind.

The jungle isn't paradise, it's a bush ridden desert.

Gank. Pressure. River Scutter. Counter Jungle. Take Laner Xp+Gold.

I'm a mid laner and I steal wraiths all the time when I push in. My jungler usually goes to gank another lane.
