PSA: Don't Ask People To Report People, Your Report Is Enough!

Cosnirak·3/3/2016, 11:17:58 PM·40 votes·9,868 views

Every single game that I see people do something very reportable someone else in the game asks for others to report it (typically in /all chat). STOP DOING THAT! It isn't useful and can lead to YOU getting in trouble. One report is all it takes, as long as that report is valid.

Asking others to report someone can be considered negative behavior, especially due to the way people typically ask. Don't insult the person you're reporting, don't let them know if you're upset with them, and don't bother telling them you're reporting them. In most cases you'll want to mute them for your own better enjoyment of the rest of the game, and beyond that just keep playing as close to normal as you reasonably can.

If anyone from Riot reads this, PLEASE ask someone to spread the word to the public through official channels. There is this belief that the more people report someone the more likely that person is to get in trouble, and it is possibly the most common belief in League in regards to the player behavior systems. Make it some kind of message upon logging in, make it a loading screen tip, make an official post about it on the website, tweet about it, whatever it takes.

Asking people to report others so often leads to terrible conversation either within the team or with the enemy team and any time people no one else chimes in that they're reporting that person to the one asking for reports fears that the person who did something wrong is going to get away with it due to that potential lack of reports.

Furthermore, Riot has stated that "report so and so for _____" is a sure fire way to get yourself banned.

Agreed this needs to be communicated through some official means to players (a loading screen tip would be perfect). It's a very deep seated belief in the League community. I heard a streamer mention something along these lines to another and they decided it must not be true. And in a chat of about 4 thousand people not one person knew they were wrong.

i always report people who ask for reports.

like...bitch please! (sorry for the language lol) i have my own opinions. if what that guy did was wrong in my eyes ill report him. lol.

I dont know why people respond with negativity, for example, i was in a game earlier... and one of my teammates died a few times without a good reason.... When another teammate started bashing him for feeding...Yes. a common thing in these dark times.

the "feeder" ignored this negativity and just kept on truckin.

And guess what?

the other teammate rarely spoke another word.

Moral of the story ~ the best way to kill negativity is to simply be blind to it. Ignore it...And it will disappear.

Report x9 literally does nothing other than make you look petty.

Most people don't realise how toxic it is to ask for reports. If you have someone report-worthy on your team, don't exacerbate his poor behavior or incite him to retaliate by insulting him and asking the other team to report him. Its an unneeded distraction from the game and will result in you being muted or also reported for demoralizing teammates.

If someone needs to be reported, just report them and move along. It's furthermore terribly illogical to report someone just because you were asked to without seeing evidence of offending behavior yourself. For all the other team knows, the person asking for reports is the toxic one.

On the other hand, I see little harm in reminding everyone at the end of the game that player X was afk the entire game, because player X is afk and can't get mad about people asking to report him.

asking for reports is toxic and usually annoys me, im glad that ppl who ask for reports break the rules and can get banned for that.

The Queen Viper3/4/2016, 2:57:18 PM3 votes

I personally will always ask people to report players who troll / ragequit / go afk.

Ztoka3/4/2016, 5:31:07 PM2 votes

I will typically only request it when the person on my team is afk/quits. That is the only time I have seen the other team request a report also. I feel that is a legit request because often times, the people on the other team might not realize the person ever went afk/quit the game.

Id love to believe your automated system can catch people who intentionally lose games and remove them but I dont and I never will, because I cant see it work.

The Tribunal is "down for maintenance" which I'm pretty sure is slang for "down forever". How does reporting even work? Do they have a bot scan the chat for the words "%%%got" and "%%%%%%" and let everything else fly? How does reporting for unsportsmanlike conduct work if nobody can see excessive, toxic pinging or the stealing of jungle camps and health relics?

Lugg3/4/2016, 3:31:45 AM2 votes

Your single report does NOTHING. Someone needs several reports before anything is done.

Kian9873/4/2016, 4:21:06 PM2 votes

No way. The real problem is people who are unable to mind their own business!

When I have the displeasure to play with a toxic player in my team that spends most of his time to insult, offend others and spam surr, as soon as the game is over I must say to my own team "team remember to report X" and they usually do the same for the love of this community. Now the problem is that people of the enemy team, people who are unable to mind their own business, start to argue with me/us about this.

I AM NOT TALKING WITH YOU!

You was not in my team. You can't read my team chat. You can't see how this guy ruined the game. From your point of view you can't judge what was going in my team and in fact I'm not asking YOU to report X but I'm asking it to MY TEAM. Why can't you shut up? Why is it so difficult for so many people to understand that no one is asking for their opinion?

When this happens everytime I have to CTRL+V this message "I'm not talking with you. I'm talking to my team. I'm not asking YOU to report anyone. Mind your business" but they don't care. They keep arguing about who deserves or not deserves a report, who carried and who didn't. Can't you just take your win/lose say "gg wp" or "bb" and leave? Nop, they have to review every single thing you write in chat.

There are too many haughty talkers in this game.

I never ask for reports, and if someone else asks for me to report someone, I don't unless I saw negative behavior with my own eyes.

I DO say 'Enjoy your report then' after someone admits to feeding or afking on purpose. They usually continue playing the game normally to avoid my report I assume, and if they correct their behavior, I don't report them. I don't do it to gloat over them or as a threat.

i have a question. if i am having a bad game, and people start yelling out that i am intentionally feeding and start telling everyone to report me am i going to get punished? and most importantly what do i report them for?

Ada Wong3/4/2016, 3:34:05 AM1 votes

Yep learned that the hard way before, asking to report is harassment "arguing me in game is harassment I mute everyone you lose anyways but whatever being toxic will lose you games." not to mention doing a lot worse.

Just keep your mouth shut till the end, then tell everyone on the team to report, as I'm sure they already were going to.

Honestly, i believe that more than one report brings more attention to the player. I'm sure people have reported me for playing a new champ poorly, but I'm not banned and never have been. If a person receives multiple reports every game, it'll bring attention!

I hope you didn't make this because 'YOU' get reported a lot.. why do you care anyways? Hopefully getting more reports DOES actually get a player banned for doing wrong. [zombie-nunu-bummed]

GamblerOfLives3/4/2016, 3:43:13 PM1 votes

it's a way to blow of steam for players:) not condemnable in my eyes, only if overused

slippykitten3/4/2016, 6:51:40 PM1 votes

It's because there is absolutely zero consolation or vindication to being trolled. If someone on my own team decides to screw me and troll me for their enjoyment, I get no satisfaction from the game, only torment. I have to sit through the rest of the torturous game, and then hit the report button only to hope and pray that Riot actually bans the person (which they typically don't if they weren't being verbally abusive as well).

My only small sliver of satisfaction from the utter torment the unregulated trolls deliver is knowing, at least, that other people sympathize with me.

The ridiculous notion from this company and community that I'm supposed to sit silently and politely as someone rapes me for 40 min, ruining my game and wasting my time, is asinine. The other option is that Riot could actually ban gameplay trolls, and intentional afkers, but what do I know.

Woah.... That's very stupid tho?? I mean: Why not tell people to report that one specific player? Wouldn't that make sense SOCIALLY? If something bothers society. Wouldn't that make sense to deal with it together and not alone? Weird. Sure my one report could mean a chance for him to get banned but. That's just one report. how about more on the same person just to make sure that it will ban him? Ofcourse i don't the reports to pile up and make things worse. I just want a high chance of that person getting a penalty and that's it. If riot just like that decides to count someone that asks other people to report a problem he's having and ofcourse others having which make the game worse as people that have negative behavior then no. that's retarded for them to even do such a thing. I'm pretty sure they already violate a human right probably. Im sure of it. I can ask people to report a problem I have and there's nothing negative about it. Seriously.

PSA: Don't Ask People To Report People, Your Report Is Enough!

the post title is correct as per Riot.

Riot Tantram (NA) - 2 years ago

A report flags a game for review. They do not establish guilt. The game is then reviewed for harassment, feeding, etc. This is why 'troll reporting' or 'gang reporting' do not work. False or inaccurate reports are thrown out.

You cannot ever be punished for saying nothing . unless of course it's for something gameplay related like feeding, afking or cheating. But, you can never be punished for offensive language, hate speech or verbal abuse if you said nothing.
